The long walk to Professor Bennett's office felt miles long, although, in reality, it was only about a five-minute walk. I couldn't help but feel as if we were being led to our execution as we trailed behind the straight-laced professor. I gave Mal a quick glance and she met my gaze with wide, frightened eyes. The perk of being close to someone was that you can often read each other's expressions without having to exchange words. I could see that Mal was nervous about the coming punishment, but she was also sorry about us getting caught. She felt responsible since this was her idea, and the precautions she took hadn't pulled through. I firmed up my look, making it as clear as I could with my eyes alone that we were in this together and she wasn't to try and run off with all the blame.
