Not Good Enough

I watch as they arrive. Standing, I show them to the room, their eyes glancing at me, confused. Yes, I am a woman! I feel my eyes roll. Walking through, I sit down and listen as Wayne sits discussing everything. Walking around, I hand out the files. Once again taking my position in the corner of the room, not speaking as they discuss the contents.  "I must say, Mr Bancroft, after the issue with your personal assistant the other day. He did a great job. This page speaks volumes." I smile, watching as he turns the paper. "That would have been me, but don't worry, you can pretend it was Daniel." I smile, everyone staring at me, shocked. The way Daniel did everything was confusing. I made it easy. "Well, she brought us back in. She is a keeper, Wayne. This page alone has me agreeing without the need to look through everything." I smile. It won't make a difference. Wayne will still replace me as soon as he can find a male PA. So, I sit, once again not speaking, just writing down notes as they discuss everything. I am glad I saved the company from losing the client.  It is one of our biggest ones, so Daniel's mistake could have broken the company down, literally. I watch as they sit, now discussing general stuff, upcoming events, and plans. My eyes glancing at Wayne. So, there is an event tomorrow night? A business one and he needs a date.  "Your date?" The man looks towards Wayne, his eyes flickering to me. My smile is growing. "I have one in mind, I will be there, and it will be amazing to work with you for another year." Wayne shakes their hands, moving. I show them the way out. Walking back through, Wayne smiles at me. His hands are pulling me to him as he goes to kiss me.  Moving, I step back. "What are you doing?" He said it was a mistake, so why try again? "Just shut up and kiss me." His hands pull me closer again. Moving my hands' stroke along his body, slowly our hands removing each other's clothes until we are naked. His hands push me against the wall as his mouth teases my neck. My chest pushing up towards him as I feel his hands grasp my hips. Moving, my hands grasp into his hair. His hands lifting my body and my legs wrap around his waist. His hands tighten on my hips as his body holds mine hostage against the wall, his hips thrusting as his c**k pushes into my s*x.  Why? My thoughts are swarming my mind. Why is he doing this if he saw it as a mistake? My mind laughs, the little devil asking me why I even care. I should just enjoy it. My hands grasp into his hair tighter and pulling him closer to me.  His hand moves, grasping my hands. Moving, he pins them above my head, his hips speeding up, my moans louder as I orgasm hearing him groan. His hips thrusting a final time before he steps back. Moving, I pick up my clothes and get dressed, my eyes on him as he gets dressed and sits back down at the desk. His eyes stay fixed on the screen. Standing, I look at him. Really? He is just going to act as if nothing happened again. I feel my anger rise. "What was that?" He glances at me briefly before shrugging his shoulders. "You should go. It is late, and I have work to do. I know it is Saturday tomorrow, but any chance your free from six until around nine?" I nod, smiling, so he is taking me to the event. "Fine with me. I have no plans." I stand watching him as he works, avoiding looking at me. "Okay, I will be here from four finishing up work, so be here for six." Nodding, I walk out, rushing home. I eat and get in bed. Tomorrow I will try to find a dress. Waking up, I smile, my day spent searching for a dress. After so long, I give up. I have no idea what sort of event it is, what to wear, nothing. I sit in the small cafe eating. It is just after four, so I could go early. He is there at four. Go and ask exactly what sort of event it is, then I know what to wear.  The ringing has my eyes rolling. Taking out the phone, I glance at the name. Hitting the answer button, I hold the phone to my ear. "Hi James, what now?"  "Just calling to see how you are. It has been a while, and you don't seem to contact me anymore." I laugh. Is he joking?  "James, we split up. Usually, when that happens, people don't talk, especially when one of them cheats. Stop calling." I should just block his number, but I know he will just send Ruth a message for me. "Which I apologised for. How about we have drinks tonight?"  "You're joking, right, James? No, seriously, let this go. I am busy tonight anyway with a date, so maybe it's time for you to move on?" He needs to. I don't know why he keeps trying to get me to agree to go out with him. "Anyone, I know?"  "James, even if it were, or weren't, I wouldn't tell you. Stop calling, go find a new woman to use. Bye!" Hanging up, I put the phone in my bag. Getting up, I walk from the cafe to work. Walking in, Wayne is stood on the phone, his eyes glancing at me. "That is fine. I will see you tonight when you drop it off." He hangs up, walking to me with files. "These need sorting, changes done and emailed over tonight." I nod, placing them down. "About tonight."  His head shakes at my words. "I won't ask again. I know it wasn't part of the deal, so don't worry." He smiles slightly, reaching past me to grab the papers I had put down. "No, I wasn't going to say I have issues with it. I am fine with it, honestly."  He looks at me, relieved. "Good, I wasn't sure as we didn't agree to you working weekends. But, seeing as you're here early, you can get it done now."  I glance towards him, confused. "What do you mean, get it done now? I came early because I have no idea what to wear tonight." He hands me the files, walking back to his desk. "What you normally wear, anything you're comfortable in. No one will be here to see you." He shrugs his shoulders. "I need to leave for about six, so ensure you lock up.  Wait! I stare at him. "You wanted me to work tonight?"  "Yes, what did you think I wanted you for?"  Is he being serious or just taking the damn piss? I feel my anger rise. "The event? You said you had someone in mind and looked at me."  He laughs, shaking his head. "No, Melinda, not a chance. You don't belong in my world. Our worlds do not mix." I step back slightly. "Oh, I get it." He looks at me and smiles. "Good, so we have no issues then."  I scream, throwing the papers on the floor. "I didn't mean it! So what? I am good enough for a quick f**k in the office but nothing more?" Why the hell did I give in? "Look, these events are full of high-end clients. I can't take a risk been seen out with someone who can't fit into our world." He is looking at me like it is simple. "You know what, do it yourself. I am not contracted to work weekends, have fun with your robot, whoever she is." "Enough, Melinda, clearly everything was a mistake. So, I won't touch you again." Walking out, I slam the door. I am a fool. Why did I give in? I feel the hate for myself rise, he is my boss, and I should have known he would not agree to this. From how he is at work, I should have known that he would never let anyone know I am anything other than an employee. Walking into the house, I sit down, my eyes glancing around. I should have known. Something should have told me not to let myself fall for this. But he is right. Our worlds are separate. We only mix when one side works for the other.  I glance down, hearing my phone. Hitting the answer, I hold it to my ear. "Melinda, if you don't get the work done, don't bother coming into work on Monday. Consider yourself fired." I laugh. "Shove your job up your ass, Wayne." Hanging up, I fall backwards. I need the job. I can't do it; I scream within my mind. Sitting up, I glance down at my bag. Smiling, I take out the keys and look at them. Going to work is useless. Standing, I walk out, driving. I stop a little away from his house.  Parking the car, I begin walking. I am guessing he will be home soon. He needs to be to get ready for the event. If less, he is going to get ready at work? I glance around myself as I walk along the street. I don't fit into his world, that is clear. These gardens are bigger than my whole apartment complex. I feel my body hitting something before stumbling back. I scream slightly, feeling something hot against my chest. "s**t, I am so sorry." I glance up at the woman shaking my head. "It's fine. My mind was elsewhere." I try to smile at her, watching as her eyes glance to my top. "At least let me get you a cloth or a top to wear." I glance down, seeing the giant stain on my shirt. The hot thing I felt was coffee! Great, that is going to entice Wayne a lot. I nod to her slightly. Maybe this is a sign I shouldn't go wait on his doorstep for him? "Thanks, that would be great." I smile at her. "Okay, this way. I'm sorry again. I had just been to take my partner something. Rushing back in with my coffee I grabbed while out without checking wasn't the best idea." I smile at her and follow. It isn't her fault. I just didn't look where I was going. She turns into the garden, and my body stopping slightly. Shit! I glance at her as she turns to look at me. He's married! He is f*****g married! I am freaking out. Moving, I walk forward slightly. She opens the door, and I walk in, my eyes glancing around. My eyes seeing the photos as I follow her through. He is married. What sort of jerk is he? I stand looking at her as she places the cup down. I feel awful; James did it to me! Now I have done it to her. "Follow me, seen as I ruined your top. You can choose." I laugh nervously, nodding slightly. I can't say no now. She will ask why. "So, what are you walking around here for? I don't think I have seen you before." "Revenge, I'm glad you knocked me. It knocked sense into me." She laughs as I do. "Revenge? On whom?" She smiles as she opens the wardrobe. "My boss, total jerk. I didn't even know why I was going to his house, to be honest. I hadn't planned it at all, so I am glad you in a way stopped me." She laughs at me, nodding. She holds up a top, my head nodding as I take it from her. Any top will do, then I can escape. "Most of the guys around here are jerks. Comes with their high class, high-end world. A lot treat their workers like s**t. Did I burn you?" She looks at me, worried. "No, I don't think. So, you live here, is your husband, partner or whoever one of those jerks?" She laughs at my questions. "Yes, and no matter how many times I tell him he will run his best workers away, he still doesn't listen. He hasn't, though, today that is. He normally comes home and complains, or if he has a work event, complains about it on the phone to me, he hasn't today." Well, that is probably because he f****d me. I feel my eyes roll. The sound of my phone ringing again. Hitting answer, I don't even check the name. "Yes?"  "It's me. I thought you were on a date?" Oh for... I take a deep breath. "James, it hasn't even been a day. It is over, and it has been for ages. Stop calling." Hanging up, she looks at me. "Annoying ex?"  I laugh, nodding. "How can you tell?" She shrugs her shoulders, sitting down. "Just one of those things. Had them myself." I smile, nodding. "So, no partner home tonight?" Surely, he should be? "No, work events are often dull and boring, so he hires a non-s****l escort that can look the part. Then I get to relax with wine, chocolates and whatever crap is on TV." So yeah, non-s****l is not correct. There is no way he isn't f*****g whatever woman he hires. "I can understand. Those events aren't much fun. However, I have seen a lot of people who attend them. Often don't even notice others around them if less it concerns them directly." She nods, smiling. "So, you have plans tonight?" I shake my head. "Nothing, you stopped mine, remember." She laughs, nodding. "Then stay, have a drink. A lot of the women around here are, how can I put it? Stuck up. A lot would pass out if I mentioned chocolate and snacks." She smiles at me, waiting. I should say no, but maybe been here, I can find out more about Wayne then decide if I am telling her what has happened? I nod slightly. "Great, follow me. You can help me bring the crap up to pig out on." Nodding, I walk downstairs, her hands passing me things, and I carry them back upstairs. Sitting on the bed, I look around the room. He is married, and this woman seems fantastic. I don't even know her name, and she seems impressive. Wayne doesn't wear a ring at work. Why?
