50: The adventure begins

Katja walked aimlessly through the labs, it was much larger than she anticipated and felt she might be lost. She looked over her shoulder at the swinging tail 'Way-da-go stupid tail, giving the game away like that! How embarrassing!'

She stopped at an intersection leading in four directions, but knew if she took any direction she'd just get lost further, She started to worry and turned back but Quintin already snuck up on her and had her tail, she froze stretching her back out.

"Gotcha"

"Hemme ho!" She peeped not getting the words out properly.

He left the tail and she drew it away from him "That wasn't fair, I wasn't ready!"

"Oh? It seems you freeze up when I grab it, strange"

She puffed her cheeks up "You, cheated" She said loudly and ran off leaving Quintin confused. He saw in her face she wasn't happy with what he did, and wondered if he should run after her?

"Katja!?"

She looked over her shoulder as she ran and he saw her face shamed.

"No!" He started following "I'm sorry! Please don't run!"

"Leave me alone! That doctor shoulda kept his mouth shut! I never felt so embarrassed!"

"Why!?"

"Nothing!" She yelled and picked up pace.

Quintin sped up but as he was about to grab her she suddenly turned into another isle and he slipped, crashing into old equipment lying one side "Ow, ow ow ow"

"See! I told you you cheated!" She called from the hall she entered.

"Oh it's on now!" He called back and stood up. Coming into the isle he saw her try doors on every side but they were all locked, she then turned to him.

"Trapped kitty cat" He smiled.

"I'll, I'll..." She glanced left and right backing away, but when she hit the door behind her she drew her arms up in defence.

"Katja?" He said calmly.

"What!?" She loudly replied, Quintin could see her face was still red, her tail almost dragged on the ground.

"We, both, need to learn from this" He said and she rose slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"I know nothing of this cat in me, you taught me tonight how to hunt, you showed me that cat likes physical contact, a sign it was probably a pride animal not a solo hunter"

"By pride animal you mean I was the pride member? Don't try and sugar this up now"

He sighed "You're really embarrassed that Ezbar could figure out your spike in hormone production caused your tail to grow?"

"It was my secret, you said you don't want to get hurt again right? Remember on the dunes right!?"

He didn't realise that stuck with her "Yes, I remember"

"Then out of respect, I kept it quiet"

"Kept what quiet?"

"That I like you!" She yelled, but drew back behind her hands "I, kinda like you"

"The past is in the past Katja, I don't know anything about women! I can't read the signs!? And just now, Ezbar gave me a little crash course on, the, the birds and the bees"

Her face frowned up "Oh you didn't need that! You already had the birds and bees experience first hand! Twice!"

He slapped his face, Quintin knew, that, would also get stuck with her "Fine!" He lifted his hands "It wasn't the birds and the bees persé, it was more of how a woman reacts to a man and vice versa, how her 'Hormones' and how his 'Hormones' work, ok?" He explained but her frown didn't drop.

"I'll see you later" He suddenly said and walked off, she didn't expect this.

"So you're done?" Katja called running after him.

"I don't want to fight with you Katja"

"It's not a fight, we're arguing"

"About what?" He asked turning to her.

"About... How Ezbar spilled my secret"

"I like you too Katja, but you're going to agree with me when I say our liking in each oher is nothing more than friendship right now right?"

"Uh, yes but"

"You're a woman" He said and she blinked "Of course I'm going to look at you, of course I'll perv a little, I'm a man, so strike me down!"

Her smile semi returned "Oh, now I get it"

"So you're slow as well, not as slow as me, but slow enough not to realise I like you as a friend, but see you as a very attractive woman, still"

She shyed down "I guess I am a little slow"

"But..." He scratched his head, looking at the ceiling "I said things from my point of view, that's how I feel about you, and see you, it was also my little secret, I basically stared you out of your clothes at some point geez! Unfortunately for you though Ezbar found your secret out due to his discovery, and once I heard what it meant, I, kinda felt glad"

She looked up "Glad?"

"That you look at me as a man, as well as a friend, it would be boring if it didn't go both ways right?"

She smiled "I guess" She gave a deep sigh "You're right. I'm sorry I over reacted"

"No problem, and I'm sorry for being an asshole"

"You weren't an asshole"

"I was, spouting s**t like I'm too afraid to try liking someone again, that was uncalled for"

"You're forgiven"

He looked back at her "That was quick?"

"It's an adventure, and now that we know where we stand, we can go on this little adventure together" She said with her usual cheerfulness.

He gave a warm smile "If I could get you to smile like that every day, I'd have made this world a better place" Quintin said but flinched at his own words, Katja's face got a shade of pink and she smiled softly.

"Wow, that was deep"

"I! Uh I mean! It didn't mean to be that, like deep! I mean!" Quintin panicked but she drew him down and gave him a kiss on the cheek then ran around him.

"This relationship is too young to blabber deep s**t like that Quintin! You're never catching this tail again!" She laughed and ran off.

He stood holding his face, he didn't expect that reaction from her, but he smiled "And what if I do catch it!?" He called jogging after her.

"Who knows!? It's an adventure remember!?" She laughed.
