“There you are, lovely.” Milo said as I entered his room. I handed him the mug without responding, and took a step away from him. He winked at me before he began sipping at the blood.
“What are you thinking so hard about, my dear?” He asked, lowering his mug from his lips.
“Isabella just informed me that vampires drank from their slaves.” I said, not wanting to lie.
“Well, that is true.” He said handing me the cup. “Bring this back to the kitchen, I don’t need anything else from you at this moment.” He seemed to sense my opinion of blood drinking, because he left before I could even turn towards the door. For a vampire who moved so fast, I would think he could get his own blood.
I left Milo’s room, making my way to Cain’s office. I was hoping that he would have left the door open, but when I came across the door my hopes were destroyed when I saw the door shut. I debated on knocking on the door, but I didn’t want to stand in the hallway like an i***t. I knocked lightly on the door.
“Enter.” I could barely hear his voice through his growl. Oh no, he was angry. Was I about to see the demon side of him?
“Um...Milo doesn’t need me anymore.” I said, and all I received was a glare. “Should I go check on Isaac?” I asked, really not wanting to be in the same room as him.
“No!” He yelled. He was very angry, and panting.
“I’m sorry.” I said, unsure of what else to say. I didn’t know why he was so mad at me, and I didn’t want to make him more angry.
Cain took a deep breath, and lowered himself back into his seat. “No, I apologize. Sit.” He said, waving his hand at a chair.
I sat down, and I watched him as he began to work. I couldn’t see what he was working on, but something told me I wouldn’t want to know. He was an important vampire, which meant he was a dirty vampire. For all I knew he was in charge of this area’s annual Slave Competition, or as the slaves call it The Death Games. This was where masters would enter their slaves in a fight against the death, and bet on the outcomes. I really hoped he wasn’t in charge of that.
“Do you need something?” He asked, and I realized that he had caught me staring. I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks. He really was so handsome.
“No, sorry.” I mumbled, looking down at my hands. What was wrong with me? I was usually an extremely rebellious slave, but here, in this castle, I was doing everything this handsome vampire wanted.
The phone began to ring, pulling me from my mind.
“Answer it.” Cain ordered.
“Hello?” I asked, bringing the phone to my ear.
“Lana? Why are you answering my brother’s phone?” It sounded like Milo, but I wasn’t sure.
"Because he told me to.” I answered honestly.
"Well, may I speak with him, lovely?" He asked, confirming my suspicion.
"It's your brother, Sir." I said, looking at Cain. He looked at me for a hard moment before he responded.
"Which one?" He questioned. It seemed like he didn’t want to talk to one of his brothers.
"Milo." I said, and I saw the grimace disappear. So, he was fighting with Isaac.
“Hand me the phone.” He ordered. “Yes?” He asked as he took the phone. He listened for a moment before responding. “No, he is being his usual self. I specifically told him at the auction that he needed to remember his ranking.” He listened again to Milo, “I thought Dane was exaggerating to be honest, especially when I spoke with Serene, but so far he has been correct.” They were talking about me, and Isaac. Did Isaac want me for some reason? Cain laughing pulled me from my thoughts. “Perhaps, why did you not just come to see me ask this?” A small chuckle. “I know you are. Yes, I will keep you updated.” He hung up the phone, looking at me,
“I have a question for you.” He said, sitting back in his seat. I could tell that his mood had drastically improved.
“Yes?” I asked.
“Dane informed me that you were a very well behaved slave, but when I talked with your most recent master they denied that fact. So, I suppose what I am asking is which is true?”
“My old master would be correct. I am not usually the most well behaved slave, and Dane simply lied to increase my value.” I said.
“Why are you so well-behaved with me? Have you just not become comfortable?” He smirked.
“No, it doesn’t normally matter if I am comfortable or not; I am just a horrible slave. But, for some reason with you my temper is much calmer.” I said, meeting his eyes. Cain and Milo did not seem to mind me meeting their eyes, which was very unusual for vampires. Not only that, but it seemed as if Cain was becoming nicer to me as the day went on.
He laughed, a strangely calming sound.
“Almost how I don’t understand why I am being so kind to you. But, understand this Lana, I can be a very horrid individual.”
"Yes Sir." I looked away from him. "Sir, may I ask a question now?" I asked, taking a chance.
"Go ahead." He permitted.
"Are...are your brothers allowed to feed from me?" Cain's eyes instantly grew dark and I knew I made a mistake.
"Who asked you?" He practically growled. I flinched away from him.
"No one, I was just curious because one of the slaves mentioned that Milo enjoys drinking from slaves.”
“Isaac is not to touch you.” Cain said firmly. “I do not want you to do anything for him anymore. If he orders you to do something, you are to tell him that I ordered you against it. If he bothers you, you are to come straight to me.”
“Yes, sir.” I said, wondering why the sudden change. “And Milo?” I asked, realizing that he had not addressed his twin.
“You are to do whatever Milo wishes, as long as it does not interfere with what I say.” He said, turning his attention back to his papers. A silence fell between us, and it seemed to last forever until Cain finally turned his attention to me.
“I need you to run this to Milo’s office, on the west side of this floor.” He said, handing me a thick yellow envelope. I could tell that it was filled as thick as it could be with papers.
“Is his office door similar to his bedroom door?” I asked, not wanting to get lost again. Cain smiled.
“Yes, yes it is.”
I nodded, and then left the room. I wanted to make a quick trip to the kitchen in order to get a drink for myself, but stepping into the kitchen doorway, I ran into very tall person.
“I’m sorry.” I said, looking up. Isaac was glaring down at me. I looked away, feeling the hatred in his eyes. What did I do to this man?
“What are you doing?” He asked, not moving away from me. We were too close, and I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of me moving from him.
“Delivering something to Master Milo.” I said, my skin crawling.
“I need you to do something for me first.” He said, a horrid grin spreading on his face. I was so happy that Cain had told me not to do anything for Isaac anymore, the man gave me the chills.
“No, sir.” I said, happily
"Excuse me?!" He growled, and I held back a flinch.
"Master Cain said I was to not do anything you ordered of me, sir." I said, so happy that I had Cain’s approval. Isaac was ranked lower than his brother, so he should have to listen to what he says.
"Did he now?" He grabbed hold of my arm. "We'll see about that." He yanked me towards the staircase, making me drop the envelope on the floor. Pain spread through my shoulder. Where was he taking me?
