Chapter One

Dane guided me onto stage with his hand on the small of my back. They had dressed me in a dark blue, silk dress that left little to the imagination with how tightly it clung to my light skin. My dark hair was braided back in order to show my high cheekbones and full lips. My first owner, Madame Emily, always complemented me on my natural beauty, and my dark blue eyes. Dane’s hand on the lower of my back was meant as a warning, to behave for the potential buyers. I knew better than to act up at an auction, that lead to certain death. Madame Serene must have warned him about my behavior for him to actually walk out on the stage with me. “Now, this here is a special one.” Dane’s voice boomed as he walked away from me towards the front of the stage. I couldn’t see the audience, the spot lights were blinding my vision. I wanted to move away from the light, so I could see, but I knew that would not end well. “Lana, as she was named, is a virgin.” I could practically see Dane’s smile as he announced this. Virgins were high dollar in the slave industry. This meant my blood was pure, and more full of life. It also meant that the owner would have the chance to take everything that I called my own, degrading me to the fullest. I could hear a murmur spread through the crowd at the mention of my purity. Dane strode his way towards me. “She is seventeen years old, 1.68 meters tall, weighing 54 kilograms.” Dane took my hand and made me twirl, giving a full few of my body. “We will start the bidding at 100,000 thousand.” And he was off, rapidly announcing numbers. I found it slightly entertaining that they were willing to waste this much money on me. They were going to regret it the moment they took me home, because I was simply a horrible slave. Madame Emily had spoiled me some, raising me to believe that I was an equal among the vampires. I could hear the bidding begin to slow at nearly a million before it finished. 975,000 dollars, that was what I was worth. I could hear Dane chuckling as he lead me back stage. They brought me to a small room where slaves were being dressed, and painted with makeup. I was pushed into a chair and they began to change the makeup that was already on my face to something more natural. “Mr. Cain is going to finally put you in your place.” Dane laughed. I knew what that meant, especially since Dane was calling my new owner “Mister”. This Cain must be a very powerful vampire, which meant he was a very horrible master. Powerful vampires could get away with killing their slaves and not facing any consequences. As I thought about my fate, a small female vampire yanked at my hair, undoing my braid and letting my hair wave down my back. Dane had disappeared, most likely gone to retrieve Cain. “I’m sorry, dear.” The vampire whispered into my ear. I looked at her questioningly. “Mr. Cain is a very mean man, as is his other brother, Isaac. He is a Prince, and a spoiled one at that.” She finished softly and then she disappeared. “Here she is.” Dane’s voice boomed, and I turned to face my new master. I made sure not to look him in the eyes as I looked him over, knowing that meeting eyes with a vampire could be considered a challenge. He was tall, at least two meters, with a sculpted body and jawline. I could tell that he was deadly handsome and that struck fear in me. All slaves knew that the more attractive the vampire, the more vicious. “Lana here really is a prize.” Dane drooled over Cain like the sycophant that he was. Cain ignored him, and I could feel his eyes scanning over me. “Stand.” He ordered, and I only hesitated for a second, before I followed his command. There were too many vampires around for me to openly disobey him. “Name.” “Lana, sir.” I responded. I was scared of Cain, there was this aura that came from him that made me feel like I shouldn’t disobey him. “Come.” He ordered, turning on his heel and leaving the room. I scrambled after him, nearly running into Dane. Once I reached him, I stayed close to his heel. He lead me through the long hallways, and out the back door. There was a long, sleek limo waiting for us and with that limo were two tall men. They looked so similar to Cain that I knew they must have been brothers, although one looked so much like Cain he could have been his twin. The only difference between the two were Cain had dark, black hair, while the other man had short, blond hair. “Human, this is my brother Isaac, and this is my twin, Milo.” I looked at Isaac, and instantly wished I had not. Everything about him made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. “You will treat them as your masters, and do as they say as long as it does not contradict what I command.” “Yes, sir.” I responded. All three men filed into the limo. I wanted until they were all seated and then I quickly entered in behind them. I ended up sitting next to Cain, with Milo and Isaac across from us. “I want you to understand that I am not a merciful master. You begin your work for me at 6 sharp, meeting me in my room. You will be starting off as my personal maid, and if you behave and gain my trust I will increase your responsibilities and your position. But understand this, if you betray me, or even disobey an order, you will be punished severely.” I knew better than to respond, and no one talked the rest of the ride. The air was so thick it was nearly suffocating, I wanted out of the car, and away from these three brooding men. When we finally reached their house, it felt as if I had been in that seat for hours. Pulling up on the house, it looked larger than anything I had seen. It had to be more than three stories, and could probably contain about ten of my childhood houses within it. I hadn’t even exited the limo, and the house was already intimidating me. I hated this. I felt so weak, and so vulnerable. I wanted my fire back, the part of me that would use my fists to prove that humans were just as powerful as vampires. As soon as the door to the limo was opened by the driver, I quickly made my exit. Cain took hold of my arm, and then began to drag me through the house, not even allowing my to appreciate the beauty of it. He barely allowed me to keep pace, practically carrying me. “The third floor is where my slaves stay. The fourth floor is dedicated to both Milo and Isaac’s slaves. First floor contains the kitchen, ballrooms, dinner rooms, guest bathrooms, and guest bedrooms. On the second floor there are our offices, conference rooms, and other guest bedrooms. Most slaves are not allowed on the second floor, but that will not be true for you. The basement is the laundry room, and where the slaves dine.” I nodded my head, trying to keep up with all the information he was giving me. “Isabella!” He called, and almost immediately a beautiful brunette woman emerged from one of the many doors that filled the hallway. “Yes, Master?” The woman asked, her eyes never leaving Cain. She was looking at him with familiarity, which meant she had been with him for a long time. “Lana is going to be my personal maid from now on. She will be staying with you, show here around and inform her what is expected of her.” He ordered. He then turned, and disappeared down the hallway. “Hi.” She smiled at me. “Hello.” I responded, unsure of what she expected of me. “Follow me, I’ll take you to our room.” She said, and I followed her. “Now, being Master Cain’s personal maid means that you are to be in his room at 6 o’clock sharp. You are to make sure his room and bathroom are cleaned, and make sure that you do not wake him until 7:30, since he is not much of a morning person. After his room is cleaned and organized, you are to make sure his laundry ends up downstairs. Then, the rest of the day you are to shadow him, making sure to clean whatever mess he makes, or run whatever errands he wants. And the thing is, Master Cains has a terrible memory when it comes to his organizing, so you need to remember where you place everything.” She stopped at a door and opened it. It wasn’t too horribly sized, much bigger than my last room, with two twin beds on each side. There was a small wardrobe on each side and that was it, the room was bare of anything unique. “How bad of a master is he?” I asked, sitting down on the bed opposite to the one Isabella sat. She bit her lip, not wanting to respond. “He’s rough, but he will not harm you as long as you do everything he asked of you. He most likely told you that you are to listen to his brothers, correct?” I nodded. “Milo is a good man, he is very lenient with his slaves, although you will have to look out for his flirting. Isaac is the problem, he is a violent man. He will lash out for no reason, I would honestly avoid him as much as possible.” “How violent is he?” I asked, not sure if I wanted to know the answer. “He’s known for killing slaves.” She said, looking away. Great, I was now under the roof of a murderer.
