*George’s POV* “I can’t thank you enough for what you did,” Gigi said softly as I loaded her bags into their fire-engine red SUV. She was sitting on the back seat, propped up with soft pillows and covered with a blanket. “I did nothing, it’s AJ who is taking care of you,” I told her, pointing at the pillows and blankets surrounding her. It was too much, but he meant well. He loved her and their unborn pup. “AJ,” she giggled, “I fear he is going to wrap me in bubble wrap and package me in Styrofoam pretty soon.” “That is a possibility,” I laughed. Gigi was beautiful, her smile always spread to everyone surrounding her. Her dark brown spirals framed her face and bounced around, reflecting her joyous attitude. Her deep brown eyes almost closed as she laughed and her dimples made their appearance on her ivory cheeks. AJ was a lucky man, and I was lucky to have them as my friends. “How do you know the pack Doctor, by the way? I know you mentioned that this isn’t your pack.” “You’re right,” I admitted, she didn’t miss a thing. “This was the pack my mother was born into. The Doctor was an old family friend of hers. It helps having contacts,” I said, winking at her and watching her smile once more. “I bet you have many contacts around here,” she elbowed me in my ribs as she c****d a brow suggestively. I didn’t know what to say, so I did what I thought best... and said nothing. “Oh come on George, you can’t be a virgin,” she joked and started laughing at her own joke. I tried to brush it off by loading some of the bags I had carried to the car, ignoring what she had just said. “George...” she frowned, straightening in her seat. “Gigi...” I answered in a deep and casual tone, raising my brows at her, hoping she would drop the subject. “You are...” she almost whispered, “aren’t you?” Her eyes had turned to the size of saucers, shocked as if I had committed some mortal crime. “It’s hard making a connection with a girl when they only have eyes for your best friend,” I tried to justify, not that I needed to. “Is that why you left? Because you were c**k blocked by your buddy?” she asked, the seriousness on her face slowly disappeared as the dimples started to set in. “I had to leave after challenging him for the role of Alpha,” I told her, clearing my throat and squaring my shoulders. “Badass virgin boy,” she said as her dimples became more pronounced as her smile grew. I could tell she was holding herself back from bursting into full blown laughter, but talking about this made me so uncomfortable I was about to fake being called back into the house just to get away from her inquisition. “You are still a virgin? Aren’t you?” she asked me, with a straight face. “Yes Gigi, I am. I presume I am the only twenty-two-year old ex-Beta in existence to be a virgin. You can laugh now, I know you want to.” I pulled my mouth into a tense line, waiting for the blow her laughter would deliver. “Dude! I’m so sorry!” she put her hand on mine, “I will help you find a juicy piece of ass where we are going,” she said as her eyes glistened and the million dollar smile returned to mock me. I pulled away and aimed to walk away when she said, “ Oh come on George, you’ve become like a brother to me. I love you, and want you to be happy. Have what AJ and I have.” “I want that too,” I turned to look at her and saw her eyes shining with unshed tears. I don’t get why she was emotional, but I suppose women are beyond my understanding. What I said was true though, I’d kill to have what her and AJ have together. “Hold out for her,” she said softly, “I promise... she will be worth it.” “Hold out for her?” I repeated in question. “Yes. Just trust me,” she smiled. “Alright Yoda,” I rolled my eyes and threw another pillow at her. We had left the tiny beach cottage I had called home for the past year and started to head home, or at least, their home. They had asked me to accompany them, and I had agreed without question. I would sooner drink bleach than return to the cottage alone. They literally saved my life when they found me on the beach that day. I just can’t picture being without them anymore, they have become like family to me over the past few months of living together. They had come to search for her sister who had gone missing, but after months of searching without any leads... and the fact that they were now pregnant... they wanted to go back home and continue searching for her from there. The chances were that she wasn’t along this coast anymore anyway. What goal did it serve for them to stay here and waste their time at my home when they could be around family and friends? It suddenly struck me, I had none of those, none that I could go back to at least. Gigi had fallen asleep on the back seat as AJ entered Lake Tahoe. It was already dark and the casino’s lights played in the distance like a lighthouse on the shore. I rolled down my window and took in a deep breath, allowing the scent of pine to fill my lungs. I closed my eyes and reclined my head, savouring the moment. “You like the woods?” AJ asked as he glanced over at me. “Yes,” I said as I exhaled a long relaxed breath, “it makes me feel... home.” “I’m more of a beach boy,” he smiled, “but this is... nice.” “Nice,” I raised my brows, “our kind were made to thrive in places like these.” “I hear you bro,” he said, “that’s probably one of the reasons Gigi wants to go home, she misses it too.”
