“Stephen it seems like you are somehow intelligent,” Nyamindi said covering her pot.
“Why?” I asked moving to.
This attracted the attention of Susan and Lightness. They waited anxiously to hear why I was intelligent.
“You did what I thought of doing there at the living room.” She said smiling furtively.
“Oh sure!”
“But! I want to know who you? Don’t cheat in front of your love and servant. Are you the genius or a C.I.D who I heard that was coming to investigate our boss? Be honest please we can help you…” She said moving towards the door.
“I am none of those… Why do you suspect me? Do I look one?” I asked beginning to worry.
“I have seen a great difference of the men I know their traits and that of yours. I think you are C.I.D,” She removed her g*n and c****d then pointed at me.
“Say the truth before I shoot you!” She roared furiously.
I felt horridly, I started to perspire thinly. I lifted my hands up and surrendered.
“I am not a C.I.D please but a ‘preacher’ of peace!” I told her stammering with fear. “A…Am….not”
Suddenly above her I saw an enormous spider climbing down from the roof with its string like web.
“Let me save you there is a venomous spider on you,” I pointed at it. She looked up carefully, only to see a spider just above her eyes.
Her confusion and struggle to fight it gave me a chance. Like Lightening I dashed at her like a ghost. With a lot of care I got hold to the hand with the pistol and hit it against the wall.
Due to the pain she dropped it. I picked it and started to colonize. Due to the fear in me, I started to distrust Lightness. I walked towards her menacingly. I pointed at her forehead making sure that she could not move. I pushed her against the wall.
“Tell me the truth! What is going on here,” I roared discordly trembling in anger.
Thinking that I had won the battle I found myself losing all.
“Stop joking” She said lifting her hand to hold the g*n. “It’s empty”.
She said coughing. I tried to shoot but it had nothing. I got passive aggressive and dropped it.
“OH! Do you mean you can dare to hold a g*n against my head Stephen? I have realized that your angers are compulsive, I wanted to know the truth about you but I has not yet know what I needed. You must be a bit genius. What you have done has left me with a question that I don’t know to ask who...” She yelled loudly.
“I have been doubting your feelings for the last two days. You must not be the ordinary people I know but you are extra ordinary, who are you? Specify everything that you haven’t told me yet! Tell me know!” She thundered.
I could not get what she was trying to mean. I had told her all my deepest secrets but still she said that I was hiding her something. I stared silent as she went around me.
“Have you given me some drugs? If you have okay?” She asked wetting her face. “I have dreams and I had dreamt about you. There is something either natural, supernatural or artificial powers that is between us.” She said slowly sitting on the table in front of me.
“Please tell me candidly. Are you a witch doctor or something of the sort?”
She asked this time round whispering tears flooding her face.
“No I am just ordinary mammal to add more I am from a humble background and always talks the truth.” I continued to describe myself more as she gazed at me.
Aguishly she stood like stung by a hornet or have seen phantom.
She moved at the sink and washed her hands thoroughly. She wiped her face and then stared at her image in the sink.
“My love I have a bad dream. Could it be a nightmare? Is there something that will explode between us? I don’t know. What will be born we will suckle it!” She said pleasantly.
“Madam don’t cry. Be firm please, hope nothing bad will happen.” Susan soothed her.
Just then my phone rang; it was dad-in-law! I answered and he ordered us all to meet in the room up we run the stairs to the room. Still they had not discovered that they were being recorded.
He told us that the plan was well done and a year later we were to get everything back to our hands soon, I register as a citizen. This assurance was the last conversation to her from dad-in-law.
He gave me the documents that could be used to claim if any injustice. He then gave me a sealed envelope. He said that it could be opened when he was dead.
They both moved out of the living room. I thought he was escorting the man but alas! He was not. They both left the gate but dad was walking by foot. He walked until he sunk in the heavy darkness.
The vehicle of his friend drove passed him. He waved his hand as he was seen in the lights then disappeared.
“Where was he gone” She asked while we were standing at the gate.
I knobbed my head. We closed the gate and went back to the luxurious house. Sadly we had not got the answer. Where was he heading to?
When I looked depressed and horrible, Lightness didn’t bother. This brightened me. Her own father? I wondered.
I recalled of the phone that was recording them. On picking it, the Bluetooth was on. This meant somebody had sent the audio recorded to his phone. He had also deleted the name of his device.
“Who could this be? This must be Nguiwan!” I said frightened. Forming furrows on my forehead. “He is the C.I.D that Susan was saying!”
Just then Nguiwan who we thought that had gone for a leave for some days was behind the recliner. He lifted his head, he smiled and skirted to the side we were.
He walked towards Susan who seemed to be afraid. He blew up his cover. He removed pistol and pointed at her.
“You are under arrest. I am the C.I.D that you were searching for.” He thundered valiantly. “I do understand that you have been involved in many raids that have left people dead. You were hired to kill the C.I.D who could be seen here but you failed, eh?”
She turned round and lifted her hands to give in. Lightness was at her peak of her heart. She was breathing heavily. He thanked me for placing the phone to record because it had revealed many secrets although he was still suspecting me.
“Are you not a C.I.D Stephen, nobody can think to do. What you have done… Are you?” He asked.
“I am a student in Gatundia Secondary School first year,” I said turning to face Lightness who was now about to faint.
“Yes…he…I...Is” She said, “I met him around Nyahururu so he a student” She explained.
“Ai! How? I am not sure but I won’t bother dealing with you. I will thank you for how you treated me! I am Dennis Ngatia not Davinson Nguiwan!” He thundered. “Give us a way please and switch on the television to see it.” He left with Susan who was restrained.
Just then I dashed to the wall unit and picked the remote. I switched on the television.
We found breaking news that was online. “… It is a few minutes since a man has jumped into Thomson Fall…” the reported said displaying videos that showed the victorious fall where he had jumped. “… The operation to find his body is still going on…”
“Wah! Could it be daddy…? Hope he is…” She said hesitatingly.
I wondered why she was interested to know who he was! Just then the body was displayed. It was her father who had committed suicide. Surely he missed to die.
Lightness smiled and clapped joyously. This made Nyamindi frightened.
“I thank God for such a b***h to die! I have been waiting for this great day for I knew everything would turn right!” She jumped up childishly, dropping herself sheepishly.
This is when I came to know that she was not a fool as I thought.
“It was illusory that he was not my biological father. I really hated him. Such a person who killed my parents and brother then I call him my father!” She turned to me suddenly “Now tell me what he told you to tell me my love.”
“He left a message that you are not his daughter. He regrets a lot of what he did…” I hesitated to open the envelope.
I found all pins and passwords written there. Then a little message was left in the same envelop.
To my beloved daughter.
I know that you have been told that I am not your biological father. I well understand that I made a mistake to kill your parents. I have been regretting when I see you depressed.
I have come to a maximum point of life and I had died leaving you on the best hands of Stephen. From my life experiences, I have noticed that Nguiwan is not a trustful man. I suspect that he is a professional C.I.D. so be careful.
Forgive me for making you suffer, if I did, a blunder also forgive me .Let my soul rest in peace and deny me.
Good bye God blesses your lives abundantly.
Am Gone!
She was staring at me inexplicably happy. Joy wrote on her face and inevitable smiles.
“I have forgiven him let his soul rest in peace forever and ever,” She finishes as she run towards me.
This night was sleepless. We abandoned his death and called it history, sadness was gone, fear was now away and happiness prevailed. Nyamindi was the only house girl who was left to work with.
After stories, narrated by Nyamindi I decided to listen to the conversation between late father and his trustee.
It started when father told him they had killed a lot of people but their lives didn’t change. He though that pouring blood could be the boost of their business but alas! It turned up to curses and regrets. The plans that he had to adopt many children and use them as prostitutes failed when he became handicapped. He had planned to start with Lightness and when she could mature he was to open a pub. This was to enable him to attract many people mostly the rich ones to develop it to be the famous.
When his son died he changed his mind and started treating Lightness as his special child. One day Lightness found him watching a video that he had recorded when killing her parents.
He discovered that she changed from then. This is the reason he had been regretting. He felt guilty every time he saw her in blues, he said.
When he got Stephen he decided to make him his son and inherit everything. He made sure that his daughter was as happy as possible. This is the reason he supported the desires of her daughter and respected them.
He told the man that after seven months, he was to support me to register and then I was to be given back all the businesses and everything that was to be given to me.
This marked an end of that family. None was left as a remnant to ones brings it back to life. Its name was to perish and forgotten. It went with them in the graves of silence.
As a team of three we went all around the house as he had ordered collecting his pictures and that of his wife. We then poured petrol on them and ignited them.
We went to sleep at 6 a.m. the following day tired but joyful. Our minds were freshened by the many hours of sleep.
The nature became favoring and interesting. Just to bring to bring to nascent best days of life. The spirit of my parent I thought were rejoicing. I admired the peace here. Surely, nothing is good and precious than love plus peace.
