We headed out of the diner, after he paid. "So why would Nicholas be your doppelganger?" He looked at me, trying to measure how much to say as we walked to the car. "He was born, from dark magic, he has no name because he wasn't born he was made." "That's actually possible? To fake a living thing?" "For a dark witch, yes." "For what, just to prove they could?" "More or less, I found him, I was suppose to kill him, but.." "You showed mercy." "A dark being doesn't ask to be born it's created by irresponsible idiots, he didn't have a way..a purpose. I gave him one. As meaningless as it is." Something about that warmed my heart, Chris was a good guy after all. "What?" he asked, a little hotly. "Nothing, your secret is safe with me." He smiled but shook his head, as he opened the door for me, I got in the car. I looked up and there he was again, the man from the bakery. Not thinking I jumped out of the car, and ran toward the man, he saw me and started to run too. I chased him for a bit, but as he turned a corner I turned it and he was gone. It was a dead end and yet he was...just gone. "What did you see?" "It was him again, the guy from before!" "Do you know him?" "No...or at least I don't thinks so." "What does he look like?" "I'm not sure, I keep trying to get a reading on him but I don't get anything, it's pissing me off!" I looked at Chris, and I realized I was giving him more reasons to hurry me to move in with him, not that it was his choice, but I didn't want him nagging me to do so. "Alex, maybe..." "No, I'm fine!" "Alex, I'm not going to be okay with you out here with no protection." "I have Mina, and if you want to send Nicholas to watch me do so, but I'm not leaving until I know Lillian is safe!" He looked mad, but I wasn't going to budge. He looked behind himself. "Servant." he said softly, and Nicholas just appeared. "Master?" "You are to protect, Alessandra until she comes with me is that understood!" "It shall be done sir." Chris turned back to me. Something was happening and he wasn't going to tell me, which only meant I would have to be on guard. He took me back to the house, and later I tried to carefully ask Lillian about my father. She just seemed so excited and chatty about her trip, I didn't have the heart to make her upset. Friday morning I helped Nicholas to get the books into the truck, he took them to Chris's house. About noon, Lillian and John said their good byes to Calista and me. "Please stay out of trouble." Lillian said sternly. "Hey it's not me, it just finds me!" I joked but she wasn't joking, "promise, I will stay away from trouble." "If anything, sweetheart, your brother is in charge." John said to Calista, who rolled her eyes. Dalton was so wrapped up in his mate, that Calista had been covering for him in the pack. "Sure thing Dad." she replied and gave both my aunt and her father a hug. They drove off and she and I went inside. I was packing my stuff now, Lillian had packed her stuff this whole week, and sent things to the pack house, and some she sold. The house just had some furniture, and things. The only personal thing she had left was the wi-fi router and the TV. After we had my stuff packed and ready to go for Sunday, Calista and I watched some shows and talked. Ordered pizzas and just laid low for the night. "Hey, Alex?" "Yeah?" "Dalton told me...about what happened to you." I looked at her waiting to hear the old you don't act like a victim, or why I'm so trusting when that happened to me. "Yeah?" "Yeah, and I'm glad you found someone to open your heart to." "So he claims." "I think it's true." "Okay, you tell me. How?" She came close to me and looked me in the eye. "A mate, even when you've been through things. Makes you feel the safest in their arms, their very presences brings you comfort." I thought about it for a moment, and yes. When I was around Chris, he made me feel...safe, sure, and just wanted. I looked at my friend again, I smiled and she pushed me with her shoulder softly, and playfully. "I hope you find that someone that makes you feel that way." "Let's hope so." she said then she suddenly perked up. "What do you hear?" She got to her feet, and looked around carefully. Then suddenly pulled me with her and we got right into the stair case closet, and slowly closed and door. When we heard the breaking of windows and the door. I looked down realizing I had nothing, we were both in pjs and barefooted. I felt around but she stopped me, and pointed toward the door of the closet. "They're not up stairs." "No, he said they were in the living room the whole time." " The target seems ready to move." "Well, that's not going to happen after tonight, keep looking!" I looked at Calista, wondering who they were here for exactly. Calista, looked at me. Her meaning was loud and clear, they were here for me. Without warning arms broke through the walls grabbing both of us, and pulled us through. "There you are, Slayer!" one of the men looked down at me with a big smile, " such a waste." "You touch her you'll have to answer to Amery!" said Calista who was being held down, the man just chuckled as he walked toward her, one of the others came to grab me and pulled me up by my hair, bending my head back. "That old vampire lost power a long time ago, sweetheart. He can't even scare up a cold." They all laughed, and the one talking suddenly snapped his fingers, and the one holding me bit down on my neck. "Alex!" I heard Calista, but I had gone numb for some reason, I could feel my blood draining from my body. When the vampire holding me stopped, I was shaking really bad. "That's the sweetest blood I've ever tasted boss!" "Yes, so I was told." the boss, came toward me grabbing my face, to make me look at him. Without warning he too bit into my neck but on the other side. "No!" I heard Calista, and that triggered something in me. I pushed a energy ball from my hand, pushing the vampire off, and Calista changed, ripping the vampires holding her to pieces. "Calista?!" I called she helped me outside, to my horror, Mina was on the ground and not moving. I quickly picked her up and using that anger I actually produced fire and surrounded us with it. The vampires laughed. "How long can you keep this up, little witch!?" "My guess not very long." I heard and froze. That voice, I haven't heard in five years. I slowly turned. "Julian?" I asked as my brother walked toward me. Julian was the second of my brothers, we had never been close, not in the way Diego and Armando had been. To see him here, allied with the men trying to kill me, broke my heart. Suddenly, Calista let a deep howl into the air. My guess calling for help, we needed to hold out until the others got here. The flames now looking weak. Julian, sneering at me. "Not as easy as it sounds little sister, you need anger." he did a kind of swishing motion and the fire wall was gone. "Julian..why are you doing this?" I asked as he walked toward me. "It's not personal, Alex, it's the job." "You're my f*****g brother, Julian, how is this not personal!?" He grabbed me by the throat. "Finish her!" He said as five vampires bit into my body. My back, arms, neck, and legs. That's when I heard a growl come from the thick bushes. The vampires stopped looking toward the bushes. I didn't even notice what really happened, all I could hear was the screams that ripped through the night air. What I could see was the house go up in flames, and barely caught sight of Julian walking away. "Alex, stay with me, you'll be fine." I was choking on my own blood, I didn't have energy to stay awake. Everything started to fade, until it was just dark. (Chris's POV) I was still at the station, Nicholas had reported to me about an hour ago, saying Alex was okay. I was going to see her after I was done. So many things have been happening and I couldn't bring myself to tell her. Branfield was killed last night, William had left town just after the ball, and so had Amanda. I couldn't even think where to start looking. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard the howl. It was Calista. Getting a sick feeling I ran toward Lillian's house, it would be faster then the car. My stomach dropped when I got close to Lillian's house, the scent of Alex's blood filled the air. I barely saw some other vampires biting into her, when I started to see red with anger. They would pay. I ran at them ripping them limb from limb, with Calista's help we killed a few, and the rest ran off. The horror of seeing Alex choking from her own blood, left me unable to think of what to do. I picked her up and took her to my house, where I told Calista to call Jaclyn. She quickly did but Jacelyn wasn't alone. The man in question, was older easily could be Alex's father. He looked at me. "You need to suck out all the toxicans." I looked down at Alex, she had gone still. I bit into every bite mark. The blood tasted tainted, as I drank. After a while. I stopped she was starting to feel cold to the touch. The man and Jacelyn, started to chant, her wounds were healed but...she was still cold to the touch. " She needs blood." the man said, Jacelyn looked at me. I nodded I pulled my sleeve up and she quickly had a needle in my arm, and into a blood bag, then connected Alex to that same bag. After a while Jacelyn took the needle out of my arm, but left Alex's. "Let's hope that works, one never knows how vampire blood is going to react." He checked Alex, carefully, then turned back to me. "As a healer, you would know, but as her father would you want her to run the risk?" The man looked up at me. "How did you know?" "Please, she might not have seen you yet, but I have. I just didn't know if she would want to know." The man looked back at Alex. "I came to see her, but lost my nerve every time." "I understand, but hiding wasn't getting you any where." He nodded. "I'm staying here with her, thank you, Jacelyn for you help, go take some rest." "What gives you the right to tell me what to do?" the man asked hotly. "She's my mate, and this is my house!" I said firmly. The man looked surprised but didn't argue further. Jacelyn took him out of the room. I sat down close to Alex, listening as her heart continued to pump my blood through her body, and hoped she stayed alive. Vampire blood was tricky when it came to intermingling with Witch or wolf. With humans it either killed them fast and without a thought or turned them. Any other supernatural being, it killed them, make them go insane, or it would cancel the other side out completely. All I could do was sit here and wait to see what the verdict was and hoped it was good.
