Triggers: cheating, divorce, single mother, s*x scene
"God, I hate mornings. And Mondays. And work." Amelia grunts at her best friend, Laura.
"Don't we all?" Laura answers, half distracted by her phone. "Look at this crap... Find a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life."
"I hate motivational quotes too. Yeah, b***h, you are twenty and your parents pay your bills, of course you can post this type of s**t. Try that when you are thirty, with two small kids and no support from anyone!" Amelia vents her anger, crushing the cheap beagle in her hand.
Laura looks at her, a bit worried. "No word about the child support?"
"He ran out of the country with his secretary so I couldn't do the paternity test that his parents asked for in order to allow THEIR grandkids to go back home. I am sure they are actually glad the trash poor girl that their son brought home is not the mother of their "actual" grandkids."
Talking, they arrive at the gas station where Amelia works double shifts. Laura gives a long stare at the dark forest next to them.
"Are you sure you don't want to come to work with me at the mall? This place gives me the creeps." She asks, eyes still fixed on the tall trees. The sun is almost down, giving the pace a horror movie aura.
"Yeah. This is the only place I can be sure none of my "old friends" are going to find me, so they can laugh about how low I ended up. Plus, doesn't a really rich family live nearby anyway?" Amelia asks, unbothered by the forest. Compared to her life, this place looks like a paradise.
"The Collins? Yeah, but they are weirdos anyway."
"They own the city. I don't think they care." Amelia answers with a laugh and hugs Laura goodbye. "Thanks for walking me here. And for picking up the kids from after school."
"My pleasure. We have plans for watching Frozen."
"They hate frozen." Amelia says, confused.
"But I love it and I feel bad to watch it alone at my age. So... Let it go!"
After Laura leaves, Amelia takes one more look at the forest. If she could just walk in and disappear... away from her messy life. But the kids...
With a long sigh, she walks into the small gas station and is treated by the manager, a nice old guy who hands her the key and wishes her a fine evening. He never wishes her a good one, only fine. And for some reason, that feels so much better. She really likes the old guy.
She is going to work all night and the morning, so tomorrow she can go to the school concert. Good thing, almost no one comes here and she can take a nap on the comfy chair in the back office. The old man lives it open for her. The ding from the door when someone comes in is loud enough to wake up the dead anyway.
As expected, no one comes to buy gas for hours and Amelia is looking at her phone in peace for hours. She did talk with her kids for a while, but they had been dragged to watch Frozen, so they stopped answering her texts, except from a goodnight text when they were supposed to go to sleep. Pretty sure they didn't, but she can't argue with them. They are all she has right now.
Her parents died in a car accident, leaving her alone in the world. She had to fight to put herself through college. There she met Chad. She should have known that it was a douche name, but she was in love. So when she got pregnant in her last year and he asked her to drop out, she did. After all, his parents were so welcoming, he was so loving. They were filthy rich so they could take care of her. They even had a beautiful wedding. But when she found out she was pregnant with their second baby and wanted to surprise him at work... Fights, tears, promises from both him and his parents... So she closed her eyes... let it pass. Until last year when he sent her the divorce papers and a text that he would be gone for a year with his new lover. God knows what he told his parents and whom did he bribe to tell them what, but here she is... She can't even afford a lawyer good enough to stand a chance against his family.
Amelia shakes her head. Too much thinking is bad for the head, as Laura would say. They were best friends in college, but Laura tried to warn her about Chad so they cut ties for a while... But when Amelia called her, having no place to go... She didn't even ask for an apology.
The ding from the door pulls Amelia out of her head. She gets up to check. A nice-looking guy came in.
"Hello. How can I help you?" Amelia asks mesmerized by the man. He looks kidnapped out of a cover magazine.
"Hi. The pomp is not working and we are very out of gas." He answers with a bright smile. Who on earth is this cheerful at this hour?
"Yes, you need a key to start it, it's an old-school one." Amelia answers and takes the key to open the pomp.
She hates doing that as you can meet a lot of creeps, but... the job pays well and she really needs the money. Plus, this guy really seems nice enough.
The cold air hits her and she curses a little bit under her breath. The guy laughs and she freaks out a bit. She said that really low, how did he hear it. She must lose her mind. For a second he could even swear he had fangs.
She puts the key in the pomp when the soft wind suddenly changes direction. From inside the car, she hears something like a growl...? She looks at the guy as he looks at the car as confused at her. Did he forget he had a dog?
And then... A huge shadow just jumps out of the car in her direction. With no time of reaction, she takes the pomp out of the car and just sprays at it.
Someone screams something and she takes the money to run inside and slam the door behind her. Not one second later, a man dripping in gas and looking kind of angry bangs on the glass door so hard Amelia fears he might break it.
The guy from earlier tries to say something, but the man shouts mate and he takes a step back.
"Open the door!"
"Leave or I will call the police!" Amelia shouts back, sounding more confident than she feels.
The first guy tries to say something again and the man nods. He then turns to her and... smiles.
"Call them. Because I'm not going anywhere until you open this door and we talk for five minutes." He has such an arrogant smile on his face. But, damn... he gorgeous. Next to him, the first guy seems... meh. Tall, with dark hair and piercing green eyes. His wt clothes sticking to his muscular body. He would be such an eye candy if he wouldn't be insane.
"I will call them!" Amelia answers, a few seconds after realizing she was just standing there staring. Her hands are shaking as she grabs her phone.
"911. What's your emergency?" Amelia sighs in relief. By his arrogant smile, she thought he messed up the service or something. She's definitely going crazy. But she tries not to sound like that when she explains the situation.
"Can you give me the plates number?" The operator asks after a moment of hesitation when she told him where she is. She looks out of the window, but the man blocks her view, looking at her, still amused. With no other option, she signs him to move so she can see the plates. And to her surprise, he complies. And to even more of her surprise, when the operator runs the numbers in their database he whispers to someone Adam Collins and then he... tells Amelia that the police can't help her.
What?!
"Are you done now?" The man asks after the operator hangs up on her.
Adam Collins...? The Collins? The rich family in the forest? Are all the rich people insane or she is just unlucky?
"If you give me five minutes we can end this faster." He says again, arms crossed right in front of the door.
"Talk from there!" Amelia answers.
"No."
She can ask Laura to come, but what could she do... Plus the kids, they would get scared. The police is useless and she has no one else.
"Fine! But you stay five feet away!" She finally asks, grabbing the fire extinctor from behind the counter and pointing in towards the man as he slowly walks in with a predator smile on his face.
"Alpha..." The first guy whispers.
"Wait in the car, Chris." The man answers, his eyes still fixed on Amelia.
Alpha? Like wolf alpha? Yeah... rich people are crazy. She should have known... She watched Crazy Rich Asians.
"Since I have only five minutes and I want to go home o take a shower..." He says as he points at his wet shirt. "I will be short. Werewolves exist. Not in fairytales and Twilight. In real life. They live in packs, in the forests next to cities and they are mostly rich families. It's easier to hide weird things if no one dares to question you."
"Is this a joke?" Amelia asks. "Did Laura pay you to scare me so I will move my job to the mall?"
"No. But I will guess it will take something else than words." He answers and with that, he unbuttons his shirt.
"Stop!" Amelia shouts.
"I won't come closer so calm down." He answers and throws his shirt on the ground. Amelia almost drops her weapon at the sight. . And she thought he was gorgeous with the shirt...
But the pleasant surprise turns into a not so pleasant one quite fast when the man suddenly transforms into a huge wolf. Right there in front of her.
"We-we-werewolf? R-re-re-real?" And with that, everything goes black.
When she wakes up, she finds herself in a strange room. She takes a look around. This even looks better than her old bedroom in her in-laws' house. Silk sheets, huge Mahon bed, Persian carpets.
Realization hits her as she remembers the events from last night. But there is not much to do, because a second later, the door opens and the man from last night comes in.
"How are you feeling?" he asks, softly. His arrogant smile was replaced with a worried look.
"Are you a werewolf?" Amelia asks, focusing on the real questions.
"Yes." He answers calmly.
"Are you going to eat me?" She asks with a shaking voice, thinking about her kids.
"I would like so, but not in the way you think." He answers, laughing.
"Oh, I am so glad this is funny for you!" She rolls her eyes and tries to get out of bed. He stops her, catching her by the waist and gently pushing her body on the bed frame. She struggles to push him away, but he is too strong. So she kicks him in the balls.
He lets her go, groaning. He bends down, cursing as he was almost on top of her and his head rest on her shoulder.
When she was about to push him off her, she takes a big breath. But as she does it, his smell hits her. So intoxicating, so close, so hot. Her body is shaken by the electrical shock and her arms move on their own. She grabs his head, lifting it, pulling his soft, full lips closer to hers. And before she can stop it, she kisses him with a burning passion that she never knew she was capable of.
His body stiffens like he tries to resist the urge to answer her, but when she wraps her legs around him, pulling him even closer, he loses control. He deepens the kiss, forcing her mouth open with his tongue.
She rips his shirt open, exposing the muscles that she so wanted to touch the night before. the feeling of his skin on the tip of her fingers fills her with an unfamiliar warmth.
This is too much. Her body needs him to move faster. Her pants feel too tight. She needs them off. Now!
With all the strength she can gather, she rolls him over so she can sit on top, and with a few fast moves, their pants end up on the floor.
He moans when his d**k touches the soft skin on her tights and she moans even louder when she pushes him deep into her p***y. The relief she feels when he is finally inside her makes her legs feel weak for a moment. Seeing it, he rolls her over, not pulling out.
Now he is on top again and he pushes. He pushes. He pushes... Again and again, until the pressure starts to build in her lower abdomen.
"Harder!" She screams, begging him to finish her.
And God, he does it so good. The pressure explodes and her entire body contracts around him. With one last push, he finishes too and they fall, exhausted, next to each other, each trying to catch their breath.
When the euphoria starts to vanish she realizes what she's done...
"I'm sorry... I... I don't usually do this... I am married." She tries to say, but he presses his fingers on her lips and his touch makes her mind go blank.
"I know. But I also know your husband is a cunt that deserves a divorce and that you are my mate so you are now mine anyway." He says, looking at her, moving his hand across her naked body.
"Mate?" Amelia asks, trying to focus not on his hand, but on his words.
"Werewolves have mates. Soulmates. They only have one in a lifetime and their bond is the strongest that a wolf can feel. Most of the time we bond with other werewolves, but in rare cases, with humans too."
"That guy...he called you Alpha." Amelia tries to put the messy pieces back together.
"I rule over my pack."
"And aren't you embarrassed for having a human, more than that... a single mom as a mate...?"
He grabs her waist and pulls her closer. "I spent so many years thinking I will never find you... And now you're here. Everything else we can solve on the way as long as I can sleep next to you at the end of the day."
A solitary tear falls on the pillow. All she ever wanted is to feel like she belonged. And next to this man... this complete stranger, she finally feels like home again.
They spend the rest of the day talking. Amelia has to admit, the amazing s*x made the situation easier to accept.
"Alpha? I made the dinner reservation." The guy from last night says as he enters the room. She found out that his name is Chris and he is Adam's, her mate's second in command. Or Beta as they say.
"Dinner? It's dinner time? The concert! My kids have a school concert!" Amelia panics.
"Not yet." Adams calms her down. "I made the reservations or after the concert. You said that your kids love that place but you couldn't afford to take them since..." He doesn't finish his sentence as a shadow of anger passes over his face.
"Oh... Thank you..." Amelia thinks she should feel weird for accepting a stranger in her life so easily, but something about him. He makes her feel so safe. He makes her buddy burn with lust, but at the same time, the calm and serenity she feels when she looks into his eyes. Like everything is right, like this is where she was supposed to be all along, but she got a bit lost on the way.
A knock on the door wakes her up. Did she fall asleep? Mom guilt hits her hard. She lost track of time. Her kids must be worried.
"Luna, I selected a few dresses for you. If you wish to try one?" A young girl says as she opens the door.
"Luna? Where is Adam? Who are you? What dresses? Amelia asks confused.
"The Alpha's mate is what we call Luna. Like a queen is the wife of the king. Alpha had some urgent business to solve, but he should be back in a minute. I am Carla, Alpha appointed me as your personal assistant. It's a pleasure to meet you. The dresses are for you since your clothes are..." Carla takes a look at the broken pieces of fabric that lay on the floor.
"Oh God... I..." Amelia splatters.
"No need for explanations, Luna. I found my mate too, a few years ago. We broke the bed." Carla answers with a melancholic naughty smile.
"But you seem so young!"
"Werewolves find their mates as early as eighteen. I found mine when I was twenty and that is considered a bit late. But he was in a different pack so..."
"But Adam is..." Amelia tries to put the pieces together, a bit confused.
"Yes, Alpha is thirty-seven. He lost hope to find his mate. We were all worried for him. But now you are here. And everybody is excited about the celebration." Carla answers with a sincere smile.
"For the claiming ceremony..." Adam explained a bit, but Amelia was still confused.
"Like an... engagement ceremony, but you will claim each other. That means you will accept the mate bond in front of the pack, so no one and nothing can ever break it." Carla tries to explain.
"So the bond is not unbreakable now?" Amelia asks.
"Well, no... You can reject your mate, but... who would do that. I don't know how it would feel for humans but a rejected werewolf can die from the pain of losing their mate. Do you plan to....?" Carla asks, taking a step back, looking a bit scared.
"No!" Amelia answers before she could think about it. The simple thought of losing Adam now makes her physically sick. "I was just curious."
Carla calms down and they continue to chat as they choose a dress for the concert. Feels good to be in Chanel again. The kids are still going to the fancy school their grandparents paid for in advance. From what Amelia heard they tried to take their money back, but the school refused. And since they made a scene, everyone knew what happened in their family. Now all those snobs are waiting to see her in rags. Joke on them. Fate is a b***h. A bad b***h.
Adam comes to pick her up later and when he sees her...
"Wow."
Amelia blushes as Adams stares at her speechless.
"What do you think?" She asks.
"I think we should just stay in the bedroom tonight." He answers with a cheeky smile and hugs her tight, kissing her neck.
That sounds unbelievable tempting, but her kids wait for her and mate or no mate, they are the most important. Fortunately, Adams seems to be ok with that and even excited to know them.
"Are you nervous?" Amelia asks as he's fidgeting in the car.
"No... Yes. They are going to be my children. I want them to like me. But with them, I don't have the advantage of the mate bond." He answers. So unusual for the big bad guy to be so sincere and vulnerable. And so heartwarming.
Amelia puts her hand on his. He takes it and pulls her closer, kissing her forehead so gently that you can tell that for him, she truly is the most precious.
"They will love you." Laura says, closing her eyes, taking in his intoxicating smell.
And with that, the limousine stops right in front of the school. With a big breath, Amelia takes Adam's hand and gets out.
Whispers and looks all around, but Adams holds her tight and they make their way through the crowd of parents.
"Mom!" Amelia's babies shout as they run to her.
"Nick, Mike! I am sorry I was gone today. How are you?" Amelia asks as she showers them with kisses.
"Laura took us for lunch. We had ice cream!" Nick answers with a sugar-induced grin on his little face.
Amelia looks at Laura, but her friend pretends that she didn't see the condemning look.
"After the concert, we will go to Cherall's. How does that sound?"
The kids start to cheer when they finally notice Adam.
"This is my new... friend, Adam. Is it ok if he comes with us?" She asks her kids.
"Can I have vanilla cake for dessert?" Mike asks looking at Adam from behind Amelia.
"Why not? I plan to have one too, they are my favorites." Adam answers and Mike and Nick jump. Their father used to make fun of them for eating vanilla, a girl's flavor, if that even makes sense, God, he was an ass.
"Really? Everyone likes chocolate, but..."
"Vanilla is way better, Chocolate is way overrated." Adam answers.
"Really? You think so?" They start bombarding Adam with questions and he is more than happy to answer.
"Seems like they like him." Laura says as the kids lose it when Adam takes his pack of vanilla candies from his backpack. "Can't believe you were the Alpha's mate."
"Wait how did you...?"
"My grandfather was... we still keep in touch with our... hairy cousins. But it's still scary to know how many unknown things live in the dark." Laura answers and her fear of the dark forest makes a little more sense now.
"Everything would be so perfect if I wouldn't be married to that asshole..." Amelia says as they both look at the happy Vanilla trio that now talks about video games.
"Oh, I think that can be solved easily now. It's not like they can afford lawyers anymore." Laura answers with an evil grin.
"What?"
"It's all over the news. The Collin's announced they will break all the contracts with your dearest in-laws and now everyone just follows the lead. They are big-time screwed." Laura explains and Amelia looks at Adam, sure that he was listening to them from afar. He looks at her and answers with a wink. Amelia mouths a thank-you to her mate. She wishes she could be a bigger person and wish them happiness and bla bla bla. And maybe if they would have been assholes only to her, she would. But those people tried to come after her kids so screw them. They deserve to lose everything and more.
"I assume you already have the paperwork." Amelia laughs and Laura rolls her eyes.
"I have it filled since you introduced me to that cunt. You have to sign it and send it. Not like you need anything from him from now on."
"No, I don't think I do." Amelia answers looking at her kids, happily discussing with Adam."
One week later, Laura and Carla, that are cousins, by the way, try to make the last adjustments to her hair.
"This just came in." Chris comes in with an envelope in hand.
"Oh, your divorce papers." Laura says as she opens it.
"I will bring champagne." Adds Carla as she grabs the glasses.
"No need." Amelia says. "That chapter in my life is over. I want nothing to do with it, not even a celebration. All I want now is this fresh start with Adam."
"Then let's go. Time for you to claim that Alpha of yours." Luara says throwing the divorce papers in a drawer, far from sight, far from mind.
It's a sunny perfect day as Amelia steps into the beautiful garden where the entire pack has gathered to officially welcome their Luna. They all make way and bow as she passes by and at the end of the rose alley, Adam is waiting for her, with her little children on his sight as his best men.
He is smiling and in his smile, she reads her happily ever after.
