The Return of the Prodigal Alpha

DAVINA I watched how the scenery from the window of my rear seat changed. The forested area was getting more and more dense. I couldn’t believe I was in the werewolf pack! “Davina Hayes. The winner of the annual wizardly competition.” The dean’s voice still echoed in my head. Me! Half witch and half human. The winner. The main prize happened to be an internship with one of the most legendary witches alive. That was the reason why I applied in the first place. I wanted to be tutored by the best. I was not a witch of significant powers, because I had a human mother. My abilities were therefore limited, and I had to use just my brain to achieve the majority of the success. I learned how to brew potions though. And I was quite good at it. It was what helped to win the competition in first place. I still couldn’t believe it though. Not even when I walked to take over the diploma and shook hands with the dean, shocked and as pale as a ghost, forehead covered in sweat, with hundreds of curious pairs of eyes watching my every step. Among them were the brown eyes of Elliot, my ex-boyfriend. His gaze followed me as I walked by, while Brenda snuggled into his chest, having an annoyed frown on her face. Brenda was a leggy beauty and I totally got why Elliot wanted to date her. It still pained me though. He was my first and I thought he loved me. But it was all just a lie. I meant nothing to him. Very quickly he lost interest in me after he got what he wanted. I should have known back then. I should have known that he spent all nights in Brenda’s room, f*****g her. And Brenda did not try to hide their affair. She was quite proud of herself for stealing someone else’s boyfriend. Well, Elliot was a catch. Handsome and from a wealthy family. He excelled in spells with the fire element. Until today, I still didn’t understand why he was interested in me in the first place. I was nobody. Some half witch who barely afforded scholarship. My parents were not part of any coven. My father had to abandon his old coven because having a human wife was not supported, nor appreciated. They didn’t have much money to spoil me with fancy stuff. Father had to pull many strings to get me to this university. But here I am now. Jumping to the den of wolves. I took a deep breath and walked to the main entrance.
