Nathan Rivera's POV
I was reading the newspaper that came out today. An accident was caused on one of the main roads of Chicago and many patients arrived today. It was hard for us as many died before we could even operate them. I was glad that one of my patients who was damaged pretty bad was able to survive this. And many doctors were able to call their operation successful.
It was almost midnight when I came home tired and I was sitting and waiting for Janet to make me tea. While I was taking my coat out, I thought she would be asleep but no, she was awake waiting for me to return as she walked towards me with her shy smile. Now when I was feeling sleepy, she told me to wait till she makes tea for me.
Well, because to her she thinks that if I sleep now, I will have a headache in the morning so she is making some green tea to not cause me any pain.
I smiled at her attentiveness toward me as I kept reading the newspaper. She came out with the hot tea in her hands and carefully passed it to me. Our fingers touched as I heard her taking a deep breath. I smirked at her reaction as I took her small hand in mine. Her eyes widened as I pulled out a chair close to me and made her sit in it. She sat on it and lowered her eyes in shyness.
"Why were you late?" She asked her voice so soft and quite that it was music to my ears. I showed her the newspaper as she looked at it, confused.
"There was an accident today and many were injured so that was the reason I was late." I told her as she nodded, understanding.
"Are they all fine?" I didn't want to upset her or make her feel sad by my answer.
"Yes." I answered simply. She hummed as her eyes were focused on the newspaper. I, at first thought she was reading it but then she spoke.
"I can't read." Her words stabbed my heart and I felt pity. I watched as sadness washed over her.
"Did you not go to high school?" I asked her slowly and steadily. She shook her head as her sad eyes meet mine. I didn't want to push her so I didn't ask her why. But the questions I wanted to ask her we're building up every day.
"I can help you read." I suggested as I squeezed her hand that was still intertwined with mine. Her round eyes widened and a small smile broke on her lips.
"You will?" She exclaimed as I chuckled at her reaction.
"Of course." I said as I sipped her delicious tea.
"How about tomorrow? I am really tired right now." She nodded her head with that smile still playing her lips. My eyes kept gazing at her with a smirk as her were on me and soon she realized that she was staring at me, her eyes cast down with a deep blush on her cheek.
I was done with my tea and went straight to the bed with her, I already changed into my trousers as I watched her sleep on the other side with her eyes closed. I kept staring at her for a good 2 minutes before sleep took over me.
Janet Rivera's POV
I was in a beautiful field running as the colorful flowers tickled my feet. The scenery was beautiful as the sun was setting. I was laughing heartily as I watched Nathan behind me, chasing me.
"I will catch you, my dear." He teased as I kept laughing. All of sudden it started to get dark making my fear crept up on me. I watched behind me to find Nathan but he was not there. The women who made my life a living hell stood there. She was watching me with that evil smile that feared me to the core. Suddenly, I couldn't breathe as I clutched my chest trying to breath.
"Run Janet! Run!" I heard that soothing voice again. The one I missed so much. That same voice who gave me life, who showed me happiness but left me when I needed her the most. I listened her voice clearly and ran for my life. I kept running until I hit a wall and fell in the ground. I was already crying as her shadow was getting close, I didn't scream but cried as she got closer with each breath.
"I got you now!" She laughed like a maniac as I curled up to the wall.
I jumped from the bed as my breathing were out of control. I looked around to see myself on the bed with Nathan sleeping beside me. Once my breathing was in control, I wiped my tears away. I was glad that he didn't wake up otherwise it would be hard to explain.
I remember the last time I had a nightmare; it was weeks ago. I was glad that both times he didn't wake up. I kept watching him, as his lips were little apart making him look adorable. I smiled looking at him as I can't believe my life change in only a few weeks. I was happy and I never wanted to look back to what happened to me in the past. I laid on the bed and gazed at him, he was the most sweet and handsome man in my life. I leaned closer to him slowly without waking him up, close enough to feel his breath. I gulped as my eyes went down to his lips. It was small and so red. I shifted my head and laid my lips on the corner of his lips. I touched only for a second before I pulled away a little. I didn't dare to move; my eyes studied his beautiful features as I felt my heart explode at the feeling. I went back to where I was laid before as my cheeks start to heat up.
Is this how it feels to kiss someone?
I couldn't believe what I did. Should I tell him or no? No, I will not tell this to him. Never! This was not supposed to happen. I quickly pulled the blanket on top of my head and tried to sleep which came to after 30 minutes of thinking.
*******
I felt his hands on my waist as I yelped and he chuckled. I was still not used to him touching me every morning. I slightly turned to face him and saw his hair ruffled and his eyes still sleepy. My breath got stuck in my throat at how attractive he looked. I blushed as I remembered what happened last night. I swiftly looked away and kept flipping the omelet.
We stayed like that for minutes as I was done with the breakfast. His breath hitting my neck making me tickle and his chin on my shoulder. His hands were secured around my waist as he lightly swayed.
"Let's go. The breakfast is ready." I said as I tried to get out of his hold which was easier than before.
"Sure." I took a good look at him and he was not in his coat, he was wearing the same trousers from last night.
"You aren't going to get ready for work?" I asked, confused.
"No. I took a leave. We are going out today." He said with a smile that it made me feel tingles all over my body.
"Okay." We ate as we always did. He was being sweet and I was shyly smiling the whole breakfast. I was cleaning the dishes when he called me to his study room. The room where there was a library. I saw him sitting on the other side of the desk as he had books stacked on the table.
"Sit here." I did as he said and sat beside him. He opened a book which was a little thinner than the others. The book was called 'Little Women'.
"So, did you go to kindergarten?" He asked as I nodded my head and hummed.
"So, you can name the alphabets?" He asked as I stared at the book and nodded again.
"What is this letter?" He asked, pointing to the letter 'j'.
"It's j." I said simply.
"So, I want you to spell all the letters of this word."
"J. O. L. L. Y" I answered him with a shy smile.
"Now I want you to try to say the whole word." He kept teaching me for I don't know hours. I was tired by now and he enjoyed teaching me.
I ran from the study room when I finished at least 10 pages and went to change my clothes so he can take me outside. We both freshened up and soon we were in the car, he had my hand in his as he drove the car with a sly smile. We stopped in front of a large and wide building. It was a mall, I remember coming here to get toys and stuff, well not this mall exactly.
"Let's go." He said once he parked his car. We both entered the mall and at first walked around as he showed me different things. He then stopped at the clothing store and made me wear different type of clothes.
"Wear these as well." He said as he handed me a pair of jeans. I went inside the changing room and took of my clothes and changed into a light pink full sleeved shirt with a pair of blue Demin jeans. Once I came out, his eyes were on me, more specially my body. I blushed hard as he smirked noticing my shift in movements and told me to change back. I did and he bought me more than enough clothes I needed.
"Did you like the clothes?" He asked as we were walking towards the food court.
"Yes. Thank you so much." I said coyly as he smirked at me.
"A kiss would be fine." My eyes widen as my heart beat started to increase.
Does he know?
No, he can't know he was in a deep sleep that night.
I quickly looked the other way as he pulled me closer making his arms snake around my waist. I gulped as we didn't say a word. We sat in a table and he told me to read the menu. I tried and I wanted to have Pizza. I do know what Pizza was since I had it once when I was 5.
"I'll order, wait a minute." He said and walked towards the store and stood there as he ordered the food. I watched around and saw mother's trying to feed their child and some playing around in the small play field in the mall. I smiled at the thought of having my own kids. I just don't know how.
Does a bird come and give you a child? Or does God just send a child in your stomach? I didn't know anything at that made me feel sad.
"Here my dear. Your order." The word dear made my dream come back to me as I felt a chill swept over my body.
"What's wrong?" Nathan asked as I looked up at him.
"Nothing." I whispered and took his hand in mine. His hand was comforting and soft which made me feel safe. He got shocked once I did that but he tried to cover his shock.
"Let's eat." I said with a gentle smile as he nodded and squeezed my hand.
We ate as he kept helping me in reading. He made me say names of different stores and helped me pronounce them. I wouldn't say I was good but I was better than knowing nothing. He was reading a line as I stared at him. I, thank God for letting me be with someone who is so understanding. I could have been with an abusive one, that thought made me shudder. And the past, it was something that was so painful to even think about.
"I know I am handsome." He said with a smirk breaking my thoughts.
"Huh?"
"I asked you a question four times but you kept staring at me." I started to heat up and soon he chuckled.
"You are so cute when you blush." He teased while pinching my cheek. I think my heart is going to come out of my chest as it kept banging against my ribcages. My cheeks were going to explode any second now.
"How about we go home now? It's already evening." He suggested as I agreed and we both sat in the car. The sky was getting darker as the clouds covered the stars.
"It's going to rain." Nathan said as I turn to look at him.
"I like rains." I said as a smile formed on his soft lips while watching the road.
"Well rains also cause fever." He stated as I nodded.
"But it's worth it." I whispered. It started raining all of a sudden as I grinned. He parked the car in the garage once we reached our house. I stepped out of the garage and let the rain flow over me as Nathan took care of the bags. My grin grew wider as it started raining heavily. I was suddenly, swirled around and Nathan stood in front of me also soaked in rain.
"Are you crazy? You will catch a cold. Come inside." He caught my arm and kept walking until we stopped in front of the bathroom.
"You take a warm bath; I will take out some clothes for you." He said not facing me. I narrowed my eyes at him trying to figure out what's wrong, but he walked away. I shrugged it off and went to the bathroom and when I stared at the mirror, I couldn't believe, I stood like this in front of him. I was soaked with water and my dress was sticking to my body, it was like a second skin. My cheeks warned up and my eyes closed as I quickly went to take a bath trying to forget what happened.
When I can out with only a towel covering me there was no one so I quickly took my clothes that were on the bed and wore them swiftly. What happened today was embarrassing as I found it hard to face him. I went to the dining room to see him already changed and he looked like he took a bath, maybe in the other room. He was reading something as his eyebrows narrowed with a frown etched on his face.
"What's wrong?" I asked as he turned to face me.
"It's nothing. I have to perform an operation on a patient which would be a difficult case." He explained as I nodded, understanding.
"Let's go to sleep." He said, standing up.
"But you didn't had dinner." I argued.
"Oh no worries. I ate enough." He went to the bedroom and I trailed behind him. I sat on my side and he did on his.
"Good night, my dear." He said that word again and my heart leaped over his words.
"Good night." I whispered as he gave me a small smile that was so sincere and gentle that my heart melted. He pulled the cover as I did the same. We slept facing each other as my ears started to heat up. We kept staring at each other with a goofy smile until I felt my eyes started to get heavy. And soon I was in deep sleep with him on my thoughts.
