Chapter 2

Amethyst's POV Celine brought—or should I say dragged—me to a nearby restaurant where we would be having lunch. She was insistent, and despite my reluctance, I eventually gave in. I had my iPad with me and kept my eyes glued to the screen, meticulously going over some of the designs I had created for Fashion Week. There was still so much to refine, and I couldn't afford to waste a second. "Seriously, Amy?" Celine's voice was laced with disbelief as she crossed her arms and stared at me. "Don't start with me, Celine. At least I agreed to lunch," I defended myself immediately, not even bothering to look up from my screen. Celine huffed in frustration, rolling her eyes. The waiter approached our table, ready to take our order. We quickly settled on a drink and a steak each. The moment he walked away, I returned to my work, scrolling through sketches and making mental notes. Just as I was about to make an adjustment to one of my designs, my phone suddenly rang. Without glancing at the caller ID, I took it out of my pocket and answered. "Hello?" I responded calmly, continuing to multitask. "Good day. Is this perhaps Miss Wright?" a formal voice inquired from the other end. "Yes, this is she," I confirmed, finally pausing to focus on the conversation. "Good afternoon, Miss Wright. I'm calling to inform you that the last piece for the upcoming Fashion Week for Lady A—" I stopped scrolling through my iPad and immediately looked at Celine. She raised an eyebrow at me, silently asking what was going on. Without saying a word, I gestured that I needed to step outside to take the call. She sighed but nodded in understanding. "Yes, I'm listening. Please continue," I said as I stood up and walked out of the restaurant. "The last design for Lady A has been completed as of today. Would you be the only one coming to check it, or will Lady A accompany you?" the caller asked. "Unfortunately, Lady A is busy attending to other matters for Fashion Week, so I'll be the only one coming to check on it today," I explained as I stepped outside into the fresh air. "Understood, Miss Wright. You can come by this afternoon to review it." "That would be great. Thank you," I replied, relieved that the design was ready for review. "You're welcome, Miss Wright. I'll see you this afternoon." "Okay. Thank you. See you soon," I said before letting the person on the other end hang up. I took a deep breath and walked back into the restaurant, relieved to see that our food had already arrived. Thank God. "Took you long enough," Celine grumbled, frowning as she stabbed her steak with her fork. I gave her an apologetic look before focusing on my meal. As we ate, she chattered on about her plans with her new boyfriend. I nodded absentmindedly, but honestly, nothing she said registered in my brain. My mind was too preoccupied with work. Believe it or not, I've never even been on a date with a guy. I finished eating rather quickly, but Celine was still working on her meal. As much as I wanted to grab the remaining piece of steak off her plate and shove it into her mouth so we could leave, I refrained. That would make me a bad friend. And a bad person. I think. I waited until she took her last bite before standing up. "It's on me, even though you dragged me into this," I said with a smirk before making my way to the counter. As I handed my card to the cashier, my phone rang again. This time, I checked the screen—Alice, my assistant. "Hello, Alice?" I answered. "I'm sorry to bother you during your lunch break, Miss Wright, but some important files just arrived at the office, and I thought you'd want to know immediately." "Thank you for letting me know, Alice. I appreciate it," I said sincerely. "You're welcome, Miss Wright." The call ended, and the cashier handed me back my card. "Thank you," I said before turning around—only to almost collide with a waiter carrying a tray full of food. Before disaster could strike, someone grabbed me by the waist and pulled me back. "Oh. Sorry," I said quickly, turning to the waiter with an apologetic bow. Then, I glanced at the person who had saved me from causing a mess. "Also, thanks," I muttered without really looking at them, then turned back and walked toward our table. Our spot was in the corner, not too exposed, making it a comfortable place to sit. "Celine, I need to go now. Some important files were delivered to my office, and I also need to check on the final piece for Fashion Week," I told her as I leaned in to give her a quick peck on the cheek. Celine sighed dramatically. "Okay. I'll stay here a little longer to meet someone. You can go ahead. I guess I'll see you when I see you," she said, clearly disappointed. I gave her an apologetic smile. "I'll see you then, babe." With that, I waved goodbye and rushed out of the restaurant, making my way to my office. The moment I arrived, Alice handed me the files that had been delivered. I immediately got to work, carefully reviewing each document. Three hours later, I finally finished. Stretching in my chair, I grabbed my purse and stood up. "Alice, I'm heading out to check on the last piece for Fashion Week. If I'm not back by five, you can go ahead and head home," I informed her. "Yes, Miss Wright," she responded politely. I gave her a nod and a small smile before leaving the office. I drove to the fashion studio, arriving after about twenty minutes. As soon as I stepped inside, a woman greeted me with a warm smile. "Miss Wright, just in time." "Good afternoon," I greeted her politely. She gave me a gentle pat on the back. "Come on, let me show you the masterpiece," she said enthusiastically, leading me into a room. The moment the door opened, my breath caught. Before me stood a stunning clothing piece—one that I had designed myself. "It's beautiful," I whispered in awe, circling the dress, taking in every intricate detail. "What can I say? Lady A is an amazing fashion designer," the woman said with admiration. I smiled. "I think Lady A would say that you did absolutely amazing, too, madam." She beamed. "You think so?" I nodded confidently. "I know so. I know Lady A very well." Of course, what she didn’t realize was that I was talking about myself. "Thank you. I'd love to meet her one day and tell her how much of a big fan I am of hers," she said sincerely. I smiled. "I'll be sure to pass along the message, madam." She chuckled. "You're a very lucky apprentice." Right. Apprentice. That's how everyone knew me—Amethyst Wright, Lady A’s apprentice. *Kriiing Kriiing* The sound of my phone ringing interrupted our conversation. I quickly pulled it out of my bag and checked the caller ID. Amara. "Excuse me, I have to take this," I told the woman. She nodded in understanding. Stepping out of the room, I answered the call. "Hello, Amara?" "Amy…" She was crying. My heart clenched. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?" "I'm at the airport right now. Please pick me up, Amy. I'm scared." My eyes widened. The airport. She was here. "Okay, okay. Stay put wherever you are, Ara. I'm coming. Please calm down, okay? I'll be there soon," I assured her. "Okay, Amy. I'll wait for you here. Please come quickly " "Okay. I'm on my way." With that, the call ended, I quickly informed the seamstress of my emergency and I rushed out, ready to find her.
