Vivian I started at those big teary eyes, that were so dark from his heat and I could not let him continue on hurting, but I did not want to give him false promises or hope. I had to tell him the truth, but in a non-threatening way. "I did not say it." His face changed from sadness to light edges of anger. "But you are not denying it... You will leave me, just as he is saying..." And now he is able to think clearly, catching onto small details like that. Forcing myself to take a deep calming breath, I palmed his cheek, knowing that skin on skin contact would sooth him and maybe then we could forget about this until his heat would be over. I still had not processed the idea that I had to be mated with him just because we were genetically matched, but now after what John said and the fact that he was the freaking prince of the empire... then maybe it is possible to get out of the genetic matching? "You are not thinking clearly, Lucien. Your heat is clouding your judgment. I'm not a good match for the future emperor, and I did not sign up for this on my own. After today, I lost Cliffwind's protection and name, so I have nothing to offer in this union. In reality, I am a nobody, an orphan wolf hybrid. You can do so much better than me... you should find someone more suitable for yourself, to lead the empire in the future. I'm sure your family will not accept me, nor will the empire. So why don't we talk about it later, when your mind is clearer." "I do not care what anyone says, I do not care where you come from or who your family is. You are my mate. My family will accept you, because I accept you and choose you as my mate. Genetic matching is the family tradition, and you match me a hundred percent. There is no one better suited for me than you. As for you being a wolf hybrid, I do not care about the stereotypes or opinions of others, I like you... I like your scent... I want you to be my mate..." His tears rolled down his cheeks even more as he was so determined to change my mind... Gods, he looks so adorable... how can a person look so adorable while they are crying? "I... I like your scent too... but we should wait until you are out of heat, and then we talk about mating and or future." "But..." "I think you should first talk to your family. I may be an orphan once again now that I am no longer part of the Cliffwinds, but you still have people that care about you. You have to talk to them first, before making rash decisions like that, especially about something so important as mating." "Can... can I at least call you mine and get a promise that you will not disappear? Will you wait for me?" I took a deep breath, feeling a bit defeated, but I nodded. Not that I planned to do something like that in the first place. "Fine, you can consider us engaged. How about you let John escort you home? He is a military official, so I trust him to get you home safely." Maybe if he goes home, his family will keep him home until his heat ends and talks some sense into him. "But I don't want you to leave you..." His voice sounded like a whine of a wounded animal as he looked at me with his big sad eyes, clearly not wanting to go. 'Please? Could you please do it for me?" I shined him my most pleading smile, and he gave in to it. "Fine, lead the way, brother-in-law." Lucien said and suddenly stood up. He was about to leave when he turned around suddenly and crashed his lips against mine. "A goodbye kiss, for good luck... I will see you soon, my darling." He whispered to my lips and, after an adorable little wink, turned on heals and left the room. John still sat in his chair, looking completely shocked at what had just happened. "So? Are you coming?" Lucien asked him, sounding annoyed and impatient while standing by the door. "I want to leave as soon as I can, so I can return to my mate faster." His eagerness was kinda adorable. "Oh… yes, of course your Highness... Umm… I will call you later, sister." John followed Lucien out of the room, and I was finally alone. After a few moments after leaving, I fell onto my tiny bed and, in what felt like a very long few days, my body relaxed. The messed up last few days were replaying in my mind, and I was exhausted just from remembering it all. No wonder my whole body was in pain. Only now did I realize that it had been almost a full day since I had eaten last time... and this realization made my stomach rumble. I checked the time and to my luck the cafeteria was still open. It took me five minutes to get to it, and I was a bit annoyed to see that it was still full of people. As I stood in line to pay for food, I had no choice but to listen to idle chatter around me... one voice in particular drew me in. It was one of James's closest friend's voice. So if Michael was here it means that James was here... well, that is great... just what I needed today. "Have you seen the post? She had this silver-haired boy hanging all over her?" "What? That must be a lie, she is still engaged to me. It's just some other girl that looks like her and got mistaken for her." "Come on, man, it is clearly her." "I will talk to her when she returns to campus." "Well, it's your luck, because she is here. Hi Vivian." "Hello Michael, James." I answered because I was spotted, and it would be very rude to not talk with them... it would also be seen as me being hurt by what James did, and I could not give him the idea that I care about him. "So, Vivian, want to tell us who the silver-haired dude is? Rumors say he is your mate... at least that was what the girls in the room next to yours heard him call you." "MATE? But you are engaged with me." I could not help but laugh at his words. Out of all the things he could have accused me off... he is not one that could talk about being faithful. Now that I am no longer a Cliffwind , I do not need to be polite to him. "Yeah, and I was under the same impression when you spent your heat with Margaret Cliffwind , but I guess we were both under the wrong impression." I said to him and walked away. The lively cafeteria was now completely silenced, and I could feel that everyone was staring at us. James's face went white as I let his dirty little secret out to the world, but then it changed into an angry red. "Well, you will never be as much of a woman as she is. She is a Cliffwind and you are just some commoner trash. I never wanted to mate with you. You're a freaking cold crazy wolf b***h, I'm sure the hybrid you tricked into mating you will drop you as soon as he can." "Baby, you want to mate me? I will let my parents know, we can be mated in two months." Margaret's excited voice filled the quiet room. "M… Margaret? What are you doing here?" "I was bored at home and wanted to visit you... you said that I could come whenever I wanted... and I'm so happy that I did..." She jumped happily as I saw shock and slight notes of anger mesh in James's face. I could not help but chuckle at his reaction. "Well, the best of luck to you two." I said and left the room with the food I bought. There is no way that I am staying there to witness the mess that is going to break out now. As I walked out, the room filled with hushed chatter and my phone started to vibrate, because suddenly I was tagged in a bunch of posts. All of them discussing what just happened. And once again, I was at the top of the school's gossip.
