Chapter three
Jasira Sanders POV
°°°
I go to the kitchen to clean up the plates, as always, I try to stay out of everyone's way. I avoid making eye contact with anyone or even making them feel my presence because if I do, I'll be stuck listening to their rant about how I should feel blessed to have a roof after everything I have done to the pack or everything that has happened.
But tonight, I want to avoid keeping my eyes rooted to the ground. My eyes follow the pack house, I notice how the omegas are busy cleaning up after others.
I'm not certain why, but I feel something wary in my chest, like something terrible is going to happen. I don't try to think about it, however, my heart just beats heavy.
Finishing my chores in the kitchen, I grab the glass of milk to serve to my step-sister.
“Are you going to be working late tonight?”
I turn around, hearing Bertha, the old omega who has always seen me with kindness and pity.
“Yes, I'm going to the alphas chambers now. Felicia might be there.” I mention as I don't show any emotion of how my father treats Felicia better than me.
I don't understand his reasons.
“Be careful, I sense something is wrong. They are sending all the women and children of the pack to the bunkers for safety. But we omegas are not cared for by any, they don't even make an effort to show that our lives matter too.” She murmurs, her eyes dried, carrying the weight of the torture the pack has rendered on her throughout the years.
“What's going on?” I ask her, my voice dropping a little, thinking how this night was to be my escape from this cruel pack house.
“I'm not certain, but I heard their names being taken by the Beta's soldiers.” She shrugs, nonchalantly!
I looked at her confused..
“The Crestwood Brothers.” She states, her eyes looking around like she is making sure she doesn't want anyone heating her.
“They are the triplets who are known for being cruel, cold, and ferocious. Everything I have heard of them screams them to be monsters. Especially the alpha in the lead, Adrian.
He's not nice, he will never be.” She whispers the words and I notice the tremble behind her tone.
“Everyone is cruel in their own way, Bertha.” I murmur, my voice comes out unaffected.
I may have not heard about the Crestwood Brothers, but I know that they are from the rival pack.
“Cruel would be a small world to compare them to, Jasira. It is not my intention to scare you, but just be careful.
Will you?” Bertha asks.
And I nod, giving her a small smile as I swallow the urge to tell her that I'm leaving along with my brother Justin.
I walk towards the Alpha's chambers, but I hear Felicia's tearful voice behind the door. She's screeching out loud, I can tell she's angry and crying.
“What happened to Gavin?” Felicia's voice is strained as I go still at the door, unsure if I should be eavesdropping or interrupting their conversation.
But after Bertha's warning, I know something is going on.
“He's fine. He fled the war space, like a coward. But we don't have time for that, Felicia. Take all your things and go away to your grandfather's pack. I'm not sure when this will end or how this will end.
A young girl who belonged to the dark moon pack was killed at the pack borders. Until we find who is behind the murder, no one is safe. Everyone is a suspect. I'm not certain how many of us will be returning safe and sound because we are no match to the dark moon pack.
And you know about the Triplet alphas from the dark moon pack”
I can sense the tremble in Karen's voice, like she's shaken.
And my stomach churns with unknown fear as she refers to the most ruthless alphas.
“They cannot be that powerful.” Felicia cries out again.
“No one has seen them, but their reputation is spoken highly of by other packs. No one dares to oppose them, or even have any sort of bad blood with their pack. They are powerful and terrifying.
Like Adrian and Leonardo aren't enough to make the battlefield a graveyard, Oliver has returned from the mountains to join his brothers.
It's going to be a bloodhound.” Karen states, her voice coming out clear and scared.
“What? What's going to happen now?
I can't go alone. Mom, what to do?” Felicia sobs as I slowly push the door to let them know I'm here.
But Felicia grabs her mother and pulls her into a hug. They look like a mess, they don't notice me and I don't find the courage to interrupt them, so I quickly leave, hurrying to my room.
Grabbing my brother's medicine, I put a few of his clothes in a bag patch as I went to wake him up. His dark blue eyes shoot a glance at me as he shivers, expecting it to be someone else in the dark.
“Shh, it's me. It's fine, don't be scared, Justin” I whisper the words as I pat his shoulder to calm himself.
And he nodded, tightening his shoulders as he rubbed his eyes. He didn't utter a word, but I could tell he was happy to see me.
I wasn't sure what was wrong with Justin, my father never really had a doctor come and treat him well. All told us that he was mentally sick when he couldn't utter a word, and had no reasoning skills.
I tried to change my father's mind to get Justin better help, but each time my father made it a point to punish me with worse choice of words and beatings.
“We are going to play hide and seek, okay? I want you to be quiet. Extremely quiet so no one will find us” I tell him as I grab the bag pack with his medicine and other things that were essential for him.
He nods as he smiles before clapping his hand for me, but I quickly grab his hands, stopping him from making any sound.
Maybe no one will know that we are gone
Even if they find out, I'm sure my father will not try to find us, considering the situation. So, this is our chance to escape. Perhaps we can go somewhere and start fresh. I can pick up a job, finish school and look after my brother.
If we don't leave now, I'm sure that we would be sacrificed to the rival monsters, who would take pleasure in torturing us until we bleed to death.
Holding Justin's hand, I walked us through the backdoor. If it were some other time, the guards would be here, looking after the palace, but today there were none.
Everyone was at the war, fighting. But as Karen had mentioned, we hold no chance in front of the mighty group.
I feel sorry for the pack, for the lives of innocent members. But I guess the moon goddess can protect her children.
As we finally stepped out of the gate, I looked at the moon goddess
“Let this be a good chance for us. Please show mercy on us. You have given us enough pain, for once, to show us that life is much more than pain."
A tear rolled down my eyes as I gripped my brother's hand, and we walked out, not turning back to take a second glance at the place which was a hell for us.
But it at least held memories of my mother. From tonight, we are on our own, I hope that from here onwards, life would treat us kind.
