Epilogue
"I don't know if I can trust her." Will whispered in my ear as Liam, Silas, the twins and Natalia talked about our game plan and where we were going. I wanted to stay as far from Natalia as possible at the moment, and I knew that no one would listen to my suggestions so I figured it would be best to sit on the stairs and observe as they all sat in the living room.
"I know I can't." I told him. "But, for Silas' sake I will put up with her. I have put him through much, there is no reason for me to add to it by rejecting his mate." I sighed. My mind wasn't focused on the conversation, but rather the fight that Natalia and I had been in. Why was controlling the beast becoming easier? The only thing that had changed was Liam. Was he truly my key to not being the monster that the Prophetess had seen?
All your ancestors. I froze. The voice had echoed through my head, loud and clear, but this wasn't normal. The voice never spoke to me, unless I was in battle, and it wanted me to let the beast out. What did it mean, all of my ancestors? Was it talking about Lana, or Grayson? Who was it talking about?
All of them. It whispered. That's when I noticed, the voice was whispering because it sounded pained, as if it were struggling to talk to me.
The shield. It prevents it. Discover your ancestors, discover yourself.
Discover my ancestors? That was going to be hard, especially after I had killed Lana, and Grayson was long dead. My eyes met with Liam. He was the only one left, he was the only one who could help me.
Discover your ancestors, discover yourself. The voice echoed. What was it trying to tell me? Would knowing who my ancestors were explain to me what was happening? What this beast inside me was? What I was?
"So, it is settled." Liam's voice broke through my internal questioning. "We are going to the land that used to be known as Russia." Russia? Why did that sound familiar.
"Why Russia?" I asked, throwing in my own voice in the mix.
"Because, the only person who is there is Alesksei, and although she was close to her daughter, she will not hunt you down as Charles is doing. Besides, that is the last place Charles would look. He would never think we would take you back to Alesksei's homeland." Homeland? Were the puzzle pieces falling into place? Was I about to discover my own heritage without even meaning to?
"I suppose we should get moving." Will said, helping me to my feet.
Another country, another move. I wanted to return back to the simple days when I only had to worry about fitting in with my pack, but that wasn't going to happen. I had to figure out to make this life the one I wanted, and perhaps going to this so called Russia was going to be the way to do it.
