warm embrace

1106 Words
Yinqi Qing wandered aimlessly, her watery eyes devoid of their usual radiance, her teeth lightly biting her lower lip. Her thoughts seemed to have flown away, leaving her in a state of disarray. Those unaware might have mistaken her for someone nursing a broken heart. Leng Haoyu finally found the petite woman who had given him away to someone else. Watching her slender figure, he felt a profound sense of loneliness and helplessness. He couldn't remember why he had sought her out in the first place. He thought of her clenched hands, of her angry gaze, and began to wonder if he had gone too far with his jest, if he had hurt her! She stepped onto the pedestrian crossing, completely unaware of the vehicles, still walking forward... In truth, she herself didn't know what she was thinking. She simply felt that her peaceful life had been disrupted by someone, and she felt utterly confused... Leng Haoyu followed her footsteps, surprised that this woman didn't even pay attention to whether there were any cars before crossing the road. It seemed like she was deeply engrossed in something. He was curious about what was occupying her thoughts so completely that she didn't even glance at the vehicles. A cacophony of car horns startled Leng Haoyu out of his thoughts, as well as Yinqi Qing! She widened her eyes as she watched the approaching car, but her feet felt like they were made of lead, unable to move. A look of fear and timidity filled her face! She wasn't afraid of death, but rather of certain things that came to mind. She lowered her head, avoiding eye contact, and saw blood everywhere, feeling dizzy and her body tensing up... Leng Haoyu watched as the speeding car headed straight for Yinqi Qing, his heart suddenly constricting!? He anxiously watched her, wondering why this cursed woman wasn't dodging, why she was just standing there? A pair of warm hands embraced her slender waist, gently holding her. She instinctively wrapped her arms around the person's shoulders, seeking refuge in their broad and warm embrace. He spun her around, narrowly avoiding disaster... He led her to the side of the road. Perhaps because the driver had urgent matters, and seeing that the people were unharmed, he drove off, leaving the two startled individuals behind. Yinqi Qing gasped for breath, unwilling to leave the warmth of that embrace, unwilling to leave the embrace that resembled her father's, a warmth she hadn't felt in over a decade! In the past, she always fell asleep happily in her father's embrace. Father, she tightly gripped her small hands, once filled with happiness but now suddenly filled with hatred... She exerted all her strength to push him away! Leng Haoyu clearly saw all her expressions, wondering why her changes were so sudden. He felt content seeing her happy expression, but seeing her hateful expression made him feel sad. He didn't understand what was going on with himself? How could he have so many thoughts about a woman he had met less than four times? He never expected to be pushed away by her, taking several steps back before steadying himself. "Yinqi Qing, what are you doing? Is this how you treat someone who saved your life?" Her push left him dissatisfied, and it reminded him of what happened in the restaurant. "Why is it you?" Yinqi Qing lifted her head to meet Leng Haoyu's dark gaze, genuinely surprised to see him. She looked at him in puzzlement, feeling drained. "Who else would you prefer?" Leng Haoyu crossed his arms, observing her. Her counterquestion ignited a fire within him. Damn it, who else did she expect to save her? "You're overthinking it. Considering you saved me, I'll overlook today's incident of mistaking me for your girlfriend: Thank you, I'll be leaving now!" Yinqi Qing replied, her face pale, then turned and walked away. She felt exhausted and just wanted to rest. The matter was over, and even if she wanted to salvage something, it would be useless. She didn't want to see this man in front of her again. Seeing her about to leave, Leng Haoyu quickly walked to her side, grabbed her slender wrist, and stood in front of her. "You didn't mention it, but I almost forgot. Why did you give me away to someone else in the restaurant? What do you take me for?" Leng Haoyu was infuriated. Why did this woman always try to avoid him every time she saw him? He wouldn't allow it! "Huh, you've got the nerve to bring that up? Then ask yourself what you've done?" Yinqi Qing sneered, lifting her head to look at him calmly, her eyes tinged with mockery. "What have I done? If one person makes a mistake, the next one will follow suit: Has President Leng's joke gone too far? Let go!" Yinqi Qing didn't want to say more. She forcefully shook off his restraining hand, perhaps too forcefully, and accidentally fell. The sharp edge of a small stone pressed against her right knee. She grimaced in pain, biting her lip. She didn't want to appear weak in front of him. "Why can't you be more careful? Don't you realize how dangerous it was when you almost got hit by that car?" Leng Haoyu looked at Yinqi Qing with concern. Seeing her expression, he knew she must be in pain. He felt a sudden pang in his heart! He wanted to check her wound, but she stopped him, and he felt that he might have overstepped! He bent down, helping her up. "Are you alright?" Yinqi Qing shook her head. She didn't want him to help her up, but she really couldn't stand up on her own! "Try walking a bit and see if you can still manage!" He supported her as she walked slowly, but looking at her expression, he knew she was definitely in too much pain to walk. She let him support her, even though she was completely unwilling. But what could she do?! "My car isn't far from here. Wait for me here, I'll take you to the hospital. It's easy to get an infection in weather like this!" Leng Haoyu said earnestly. Yinqi Qing nodded. In her current state, what else could she do? She didn't want those who cared about her to worry, so she accepted his help. For some reason, she no longer blamed him for mistaking her for his girlfriend. Sometimes, holding onto too many grievances only made one tired. Watching his departing figure, so tall and familiar, she couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity...
