Teira's POV
The mile walk to school felt like two by the time I reached campus. The weather was beautiful, but the winter chill in the air and the icy wind blew my coat around, causing me to shiver. I hadn't gotten a chance to change my sweater, not that I had anything warmer, since Dad dumped his coffee mug down my back. So to add to the icy cold, my skin was shivering due to the cold coffee still soaking through.
I got to school in time to see Dad driving off after dropping Kyle at the door. He waved to Dad and turned to go inside but subtly looked over his shoulder at me as he did. I knew he was going to wait for me at my locker, I had told him numerous times that he didn't have to as he was a senior this year and had several class finals he needed to finish before winter break.
He would just wave me off so I didn't push him further on the subject.
Sure enough, as soon as I made it inside the school, thanking Selene over and over that I was able to make it before the bell rang, I saw Kyle standing next to my locker looking around casually like he didn't have a care in the world.
I sighed and walked towards him calmly, trying not to attract too much attention, when a circle of people enveloped him, and I stopped. "Hey, Harris! Glad to see you aren't too sore from the a** whooping I gave you at training last night. How're you supposed to become a great warrior if you can't even beat me?" a deep voice asked and I stiffened.
The Mason triplets and their group of minions were talking to my brother. I knew he was friends with the Triplets, but I didn't know how chummy he was. Kyle smiled and swatted at the boy who spoke, "You wish Ty, you may have bested me last night but I seem to remember that I knocked you flat a few times myself. Though, I'm nothing compared to Ryan. He knocked you down, what? Five times was it?" Kyle asked jokingly.
"Ten," another voice replied, and the crowd jeered at Tyler good-naturedly while he flushed a bit in the face. Tyler, Matt, and Ryan Mason were the sons of Alpha Christian, the leader of the Darkmoon pack. Which made them the most popular guys in the school; everyone wanted to be their friend or their girl, as the case was.
I glanced at the girls surrounding the triplets and sighed; there was no way I was getting to my locker before the first period. Kyle glanced at me from the corner of his eye and frowned but I knew there was nothing he could do. I just turned and headed down the hallway, knowing I needed to be in class before the bell rang. Luckily, I had the homework already done, so the textbook didn't really matter to me. Today was going to be review anyway.
Before I could get far, however, I heard a shrill voice call out, "Hey! Teary!" I groaned and wished I had the speed to run for it. But I was an Omega and wolfless to boot, I wouldn't get far before she caught me. Whitley Pierce and her crew of crows surrounded me, they had been in the crowd with the triplets, trying to get noticed. But they must've grown bored by all the jock talk and saw me leaving.
I plastered a kind smile on my face, Whitley was a Beta with an Alpha bloodline on her mother's side. If you tried to fight against her, she'd only make things worse, "Yes Whitley? Did you need something?" I asked not bothering to correct her. She knew what my name was but she deliberately mispronounced it to make sure I knew I wasn't up to her standards.
She scoffed, tossing her platinum blonde hair behind her head, "As if I would ever ask you for help, Teary." she said maliciously and the other girls laughed like the crows they were. I clenched my fist but said nothing. My parents would kill me for causing a scene at school. "I wanted to know if you're done with my history report. It's due today!" she yelled, and I nodded, grabbing my bag and pulling the folder with the report out.
I went to hand it to her but she wrinkled her nose, "Ew, why would I touch anything YOU'VE handled? Your pathetic aura would rub off on me. Hand it to Sandra," she said and I turned to the disgruntled girl who took the folder with her gloved hand. "Thank you, Sandra. And Teary, if word of this gets out," she said quietly before shoving me to the ground, hard. "You'll wish that you'd never been born."
She smirked as I looked up at her and her crows laughed again as they turned and walked down the hall, kicking my bag over for good measure. I picked myself up, grimacing at the pain that shot through my right leg and I knew I'd have another bruise.
The morning bell rang, and I cursed; I quickly began to try and grab my things when a hand holding a textbook entered my peripheral vision, and I stumbled, dropping my things on the floor again. "Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." a voice said and I looked up into gorgeous gray eyes. The guy in front of me smiled as I stood up again and began to pick up my bag, "It's no big deal; I just didn't see you there, is all." I murmured as I took my bag from him and began to walk down the hallway.
He caught up quickly, still holding the bag, "Is this yours? Kyle asked me to give it to you." he said and I stopped and looked at the book. It was the book I needed from my locker. I smiled and reached out for it when he stopped me, grabbing my hand gently and looking over the bandages on them. I winced a bit at his touch and he looked at me sharply, "What happened to your hand?" he asked curiously. I shook my head and took the textbook, "It's nothing. Thank you for bringing me the book, I'll see you around." I said quietly as I turned and ran for my history class.
The guy didn't follow me and I breathed a sigh of relief as I took my seat in the back of the classroom. Mrs. Callahan hadn't started yet and I was once again thankful. I opened my book and saw a note slip out of the cover.
Tei,
I tried to catch you earlier but got distracted by the guys. You could have joined us, they wouldn't have minded. Mom and Dad can't hurt you for talking to the others. I won't let them.
Anyway, I remembered your combination and knew you had history first period so I sent this book with Matt since he walks that way to his first class.
Have a good day and I'll see you at lunch,
Kyle
I smiled as I read then froze, Matt? As in Matt Mason?! He was the guy who gave me the book! He was one of the Alpha triplets! And I ran away from him!
I felt the blood drain from my face as I quietly placed the note into my pocket and opened my textbook and notebook to the chapters we were going over for the finals. I didn't have time to think about this and buried myself in my notes, memorizing everything I could.
As I studied, I felt a paper ball gently hit me on the forehead and I frowned at it. Nobody usually wanted to talk to me as I was the school loser. Talking to me meant social s**cide so most people avoided it. I glanced around, but nobody was looking at me. Then I noticed the teacher's aide.
Some seniors would be the teacher's aide for the semester but Mrs. Callahan usually didn't need one. I guess she got extra help for the finals. I blinked and the guy from earlier was smiling back at me.
I opened the paper ball and smoothed it out as much as possible, looking carefully around to make sure Mrs. Callahan didn't see. Then read it carefully,
I apologize for the scare earlier and would like to invite you to the mall with my brothers and our friends. Kyle will be there if you are nervous and I promise we won't bother you. Let me know your answer at lunch.
Matt
My eyes bugged out of my head and I glanced up at Matt through my lashes. I placed the note in my bag and rubbed my eyes.
It was going to be a long day.
