“What did we do with the all the papers on the house?” Spence asked the next morning as he was putting folders into the file cabinet.
“We?” Jeff replied. “You’re the one who had them, after you came back from the closing. Check your files. They probably got mixed in with something else.”
“I have,” Spence said in exasperation. “They’re not here anywhere. I’ve gone through everything twice.”
“And you call me ditzy? Move over. Let me look.”
Spence did, watching Jeff go through each file, opening them to make certain the papers weren’t in one of them.
“Okay. You’re right. Maybe they ended up in one of the boxes of books in the living room that we haven’t unpacked.”
“I doubt it, but since we have to get those books put away too, we’ll look.”
