My palms were sweaty, my heart racing, and I prayed once more to the Goddess to turn me into a little yellow bird. But no one answered my prayers as I walked beside the imposing male. I trembled all over, feeling sweat break out on my skin, yet I managed to keep from fainting.
I focused on anything else, knowing what was to come. After all, he wasn’t just looking for a walk. My mother had warned me about that. Still, the minutes dragged on as we walked under the vast dark sky. It was chilly, but I said nothing, and neither did he.
“Don’t be scared of me.” He finally broke the silence.
I turned to him, my eyes widening as I looked up. He offered a soft smile, but it did little to calm me. That smile couldn’t hide the monster lurking beneath the surface.
