Chapter 1

I stood with my arms folded leaning against my locker with one foot press to it. My eyes never leaving the boy that was kneeled down digging through his own locker. Why did I agree to this? This might be the worst thing I've ever done in my high school life without caring about other people's feelings. But this boy, he's so small and fragile. Just look at him struggling to carry three books and keep the keep his book bag on his shoulders. His big brown eyes shining bright behind the black frames on his face and his small pink lips held a tight smile as he walk in my direction. I can't do this! I shook my head and looked away from him. As I was about to walk away I heard a squeal and then his small body came crashing down on me. My reflex kicked in and I caught him with zero struggle but his books went flying. "S-sorry."He whispered in a shaky voice as I help him stood up straight. The bell rung at the students in the hall way began rushing to their classes. The boy kneeled down and grabbed his books before someone got the chance to step on them. I just stood there and watch him, thinking it would be a bad idea to help him. "I'm sorry I fell on you Zaiden, I tripped over my shoelace."He said looking up at me his eyes sincere and almost look like he was about to cry. His eyes held panic and worry also, he must be thinking I was going to do something bad to him. Gosh, this is going to be hard for me. "It's okay Jacob."I spoke. Without thinking I kneeled down on one knee and reached for his untied shoelace, I heard him gasp but I ignored it and tied his shoelace. Once it was secured I look up at him. He was frantically looking around the hallway but the hallway was empty by now. "Y-you know my name?"He ask as I stood up. His cheeks covered with a light shade of pink, he bit his bottom lip and tried not to make eye contact with me "I do." I nodded The second bell rung and he jumped, his books went flying again. I shook my head and chuckled at his clumsiness "I umm I have to go to class now Zaiden. I'm sorry again and thank you for tying my lace for me." He picked up his books and turn to walk away. "Wait." I said and reached out to hold him in place. He turned around and looked up at me. "What are you doing after school?" I asked. This was when my nervousness kicked in and my heart started to beat faster. This was it, if he rejected me this was going to be more difficult. "Nothing, I have to be home to my mother by four o'clock."He tilt his head to the side looking at me curiously. "Why?" He asked "Would you like to go somewhere with me? Like Tutti Frutti or anywhere you'd like." "He likes ice cream so start off with that." The voice of my irritating team member reminded me that Jacob liked ice cream. "Why?" He asked again, this time with a confused expression. "Just wanna hang out with you."I shrug hoping he would say yes. "I don't think I can waste money on ice cream right now." He replied in a sad voice followed by a sigh. "I'll pay." I offered. He looked up at me with wide eyes before shaking his head quickly. I already knew he was going to say no. "I can't let you-" "Please? It's not a big deal. I offered anyway." Jacob sighed and gave me a little smile that made my heart melt. Gosh he's so cute. "Okay Zaiden." He nodded. "Nice, Could you meet me in the student parking lot after school?" I asked. "Yes I can meet you there." He smile, rocking back and forth. "Okay I'll let you go to class now." I said "Have a nice day Zaiden." He smiled and walked off. I was about to reply but I just stared at his back instead until he turned the corner. Let me tell you about Jacob Richards and myself. Jacob is like the smallest kid in the 12th grade in both size and age. While everyone is 18 and 19 Jacob just turned 17 a month ago. While everyone else stood over 5'7 at least, Jacob is 5'4. He has these amazing bright brown eyes with short brown hair, small nose and small pink lips. His smile is breath taking, even with braces on. Surprisingly, he has his ears pierced which made him look even cuter. Jacob is one of the smartest in our grade. He participates in all the nerdy clubs and competition as anyone would expect. He doesn't talk to a lot of people, you can mostly see him with this girl that skates around the school. I forgot what her name is. Jacob lives with his mother that has a kidney disease. It is only getting worst because it is very difficult to find a donor for a kidney transplant. We know this because his mother use to always bring him to school ever since freshman year until the news spread. Now about me. My name is Zaiden Brooks. Not Aiden or Jaden.......Zaiden but everyone calls me Z. I play football and baseball at my school.I'm 18 and turning 19 at the end of the year December 29 to be exact. I'm 6 feet tall, I have light skin, brown eyes and Black curly hair with full pink lips and freckles all over my face. I have a small group of friends who are all athletes. I lived with both parents that only care about their image and getting richer everyday. My dad wants me to be a pro football player like he was and marry a Victoria secret model but that isn't going to happen. I mean The football playing thing is alright but I do not want to be a lawyer and I sure as hell don't want to marry no model. I do have my eyes on Jacob. I have for a long time but no one knows. I just stare at him from time to time because as much as I seem like the time to approach anyone and have them submitting to me and anytime I'm scared to even talk to Jacob. I don't know he just makes me nervous.
