I watched the older couple across the meeting table from me. They were reading over the contract I had presented them and I could not help noticing how he had kept a loving touch on the woman throughout the entire meeting. They were the Alpha and the Lune of a neighboring pack in New York and therefore had business dealing with the Osmium pack. To the human world, they were just an old couple who had a little family business together. To me, they were what stood between me and my goal.
“Ms. Kaylee, it all seems very generous…”
“Ms.Callasso.” I corrected her. As much as I envied the love and connection between these two, and the life they have together. This was business, and could not allow this distraction.
“It's Ms. Callasso, and before you turn me down, and I know you feel inclined to do so due to the sense of responsibility you feel towards your staff, please know that this sale offers more benefits to all of them. Benefits only a large company like mine could offer…”
“Ms.Callasso…” Her husband now interrupted me.
“We have a large company as an investor and…”
“From what I can see.” I interrupted him right back, returning the disrespectful favor. I flipped through the portfolio I had on the company just to confirm the numbers I had in my head.
“The investment was no significant amount, especially in comparison to what I have offered you. They have never been actively involved in your business yet have been ready to collect their cut on every occasion. They have not taken an active interest in your business, do not know your staff, and have not bothered to extend any benefits to your staff they offer even their entry-level employees. I, however, will…”
“We are not intere…”
“Let me stop you there.” I interrupted him again before he could even complete that sentence.
“Me coming to you and making this offer is me playing nice. Any steps after will not. Your investor, Constance Enterprise does not care about you, or your business and will sell their shares in a heartbeat as long as it benefits them more. I will procure their shares, and I will force you out of this company with even less than you started with. I will come at you full swing, and if you knew anything about me, you would know I never miss.” The couple looked at each other and the gentle caressing hand of his mate on his shoulder seemed to calm the Alpha. I had to actively focus on not grasping onto my necklace. The only thing shielding who I truly was from these people. If I had shown this amount of force and disrespect to an Alpha as a wolf, it would not have been dealt with so calmly, but as a human, as a business woman in the mundane world, he could not act against me as one does during pack business. A nod was the first step of getting what I wanted and the moment they agreed I jumped at having the papers signed. The rest of the meetings went down in a similar fashion. Some had no loyalty to their investors while others took convincing and even some extra motivation, but at the end of the day, I had my first 6 companies. My first foot in the door in making the Constance empire crumble.
“Six, for six.” He praised pulled me from my thoughts.
“For twelve.” I corrected him nonetheless. He looked at me questioningly, like I had just presented him with a conundrum.
“I have six more next week, I clarified to him.” He grew a smile and shook his head at me in disbelief.
“Although you are only halfway there, you are allowed to celebrate the small wins too.” He lectured me in a playful tone.
“I will celebrate next week when I have all twelve.” I abruptly responded.
“You will celebrate?” He asked in disbelief.
“What, I have a glass of whiskey with every win.” I defended myself.
“You have a glass of whiskey every night. That’s not celebrating.” He argued, the humor clear in his voice.
“Perhaps I’m so productive, that I have a win to celebrate every night.” I now met his playful tone.
“Next week… after you have all twelve, we are going out to celebrate.” He declared. Putting an immediate stop to my momentary playfulness.
“Amatheon, no!” I protested.
“Too late, you said you would celebrate next week when you have all twelve.” He announced before walking out and grabbing his phone from his pocket.
“Amatheon, I said no.” I insisted as I picked up the pace to catch up to him. He ignored my order and got in the car waiting for us, still on his phone, typing away like he had an emergency.
“Ametheon, I know you. You say celebrate but what that means is you throwing a rager.
“Mmm, hu-uh”. He answered me with sounds. Sounds! And I knew he was ignoring me. My eyes fell on his phone, wanting to know what he is so urgently attending to that he could not even bother to respond with words.
“Kc Holdings hosting…”
“What is that?” I sternly question grabbing his phone from his hands to see better.
“That, my dear girl, would be an invitation…”
“Are you insane!” I shouted, interrupting him.
“I am trying to keep a low profile while accumulating these companies. Squash it.” I ordered, throwing the phone back at him, angry at his recklessness.
“Goddess Amatheon,” I mumbled, looking out of the window, still in disbelief at what he had almost done. This is why I do not allow anyone close to me, and why I keep my cards close to my chest. To avoid such unintentional mistakes that can cost me everything. The only reason Amatheon knew any of it is because he was there at the start of it all, before I had learned the hard way not to trust anyone… not to let anybody in.
