Chapter 9

Koba and Dre could sense Tzar sickness before any owner of veterinary expert could. Both of them curled up next to him in the bed, Massy looked over at all three of them, then crawled to Odell's side of the bed and filled it. For some reason all three of them had to be touching her in one way or the other, three paws rested along the length of her stretched out arm. Odell slowly crawled the length of the bed climbing over top of Massy, he leaned in and kissed her cheek and nudged her jawline, her eyes slowly fluttered open and she smiled. Keeping her right arm still she reached up and wrapped her left arm around the back of his neck. He frowned and looked at his dogs. Tzar's tail began slapping the sheets, his weakness overpowered his effort to get up and greet his best friend. Odell realized something was truly wrong when Koba and Dre willingly refused to get up and leave Tzar's side, not even to be petted by him, they both looked up at Odell, while keeping a paw on Massy and patiently waited for him to enter the bed. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It didn't matter what was going on, whether she was in season or not, whether Tzar was sick or healthy. Massy fell right back into routine once she was with Odell. Her body had naturally woken itself up before him. She rolled over on her side looking and looked Tzar up and down his stomach raised steadily at a normal pace, but even she could tell he was sick. She pushed herself off the bed, but Dre or Koba refused to follow behind her. Massy emptied out Odell's backpack, after getting home late last night the only thing he did was shower and climb in the bed. His wallet still in the bag along with sweaty clothing, she pulled everything out, tossing the clothing into the dirty hamper. A new case held multiple new face shields for his helmet, the cellophane had yet to be pulled from them. After packing repacking his bag, she moved to her own, replacing dirty clothing with fresh ones and new feminine products. She made her way downstairs, filling the dog bowls and replacing their water for when they were ready to eat. Showering and getting herself ready all before Odell's alarm sounded for him to wake up. She leaned against the counter and shook her head looking around the open space of the second floor. Odell's habit of leaving his shoes wherever he took them off showed throughout the house, Nikes, Adidas, Yeezys, and Jordan's scattered on every floor as if he was making territory, he even left cleats out. She sighed and began picking up every brand name shoe she came across and carried them up the steps. The sound of the tv began filling her ears, Odell stood in the middle of the room, the only thing covering his body was a pair of black boxer briefs while he watched an early morning rerun of last nights Sports Center. He did a double take, looking at her and frowning. "What are you doing with all my shoes?" He asked calmly, his voice still deep and a sleepy face to match it. "Well, I thought they would fit better in your closet instead of being scattered throughout the house." She said back with a small smile. Odell was silent, he frowned harder at her for a few seconds, but then randomly softened his facial expression, he dropped his hands from his hips and walked over to her pulling the multiple shoes from her arms and placing to on the floor. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders. Massy's smile grew larger, her hands wrapped around his waist. "Thank you." His head dipped down to the side of her face. "I didn't get a chance to tell you how much I missed you." "I missed you more... Your mom is flying in, she should be here this afternoon." Massy said smiling. Once again she had handled everything before Odell could even ask her to do anything. "She's going to take Tzar to the emergency vet at the university while we're both at practice. I'm sure it will take all day for them to run tests on him." Odell sighed and looked back a Tzar, his head resting on a pillow as Koba and Dre still surrounding him. "What would I do without you?" He said turning back around and looking down at her. Massy pressed her lips together and looked up towards the ceiling acting as if she needed to think of an answer. "Honestly... Not much!" She smiled and pecked his lips then vanished into the bathroom. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The check-list that the New York Giants had to complete before the season started, they hadn't even made a dent in. Aside from the constant Minicamps, weeks of OTA's, and making sure rookies new the plays, they still had to train a back up Quarterback to be as great as Eli Manning is and resign all their young talents. The NFL rules were simple, players who were still in their rookie deals couldn't renegotiate until after their third season. Odell didn't have the power to renegotiate until the end of this coming season, after that he'd have one year left on his contract worth about $1.8 million. Then they had his fifth-year option, which more than likely would be exercised but at a much higher salary. The Giants could essentially control Odell's fate with keeping him from a bidding war until 2020 or perhaps even 2022. There was no reason for Odell not to resign another five years, he had no problems with the Giants franchise. He couldn't see himself playing anywhere else. "They're paying him to stand on the sidelines and juggle footballs! I mean come on! He hasn't been in the field for two seasons! All he's done at the practices was skip up and down the field!" Skip Bayless leaned against the table yelling his opinion about Giant's wide receiver Victor Cruz. "This is what happens when you think you can ride the wave of an injury..." "WHAT!? RIDING WHAT WAVE!?" Stephen yelled back in confusion. "He's going into the third season and we are still unsure if he will play! The Giants don't need Cruz! Beckham is and has been their star wide out! All these receivers... Harris! White! The new kid Shepard. Cruz isn't needed! A pay cut isn't what needs to be discussed! It's his contract!" Cruz had taken two pay cuts during the offseason. The team had been telling the media that Cruz was healthy and ready for PT, yet no one saw any playing or even practicing from him. He stayed on the sidelines doing slight workouts here and there, catching a few passes, but he remained helmetless throughout all the OTA's. It was almost as if Eli had completely crossed Cruz out from the field and had given the work to Odell keeping him as his head and go-to wide receiver.
