He let that thought go unexplained. “Now you get some rest and then freshen up. Some air topside wouldn’t hurt. And enjoy yourself. You’ll hear from me when you’re needed.” He said it as if this were still my pleasure cruise honeymoon. I don’t know why he bothered suggesting that I get fresh air. He locked the door behind him as he exited, so I remained at his mercy. By then, the powerful drink was having its effect. I dropped down to the bed, suddenly feeling quite weary. As I drifted off to sleep just seconds later, I concluded that there was more than liquor in the glass. But there was nothing I could do about that then. Hopefully, I’d see another day.
