Chapter 7 We finish off the second bottle of wine and I don’t want to drive home after all that alcohol, so I tell Pete I’ll leave the car here and take a cab home, but he suggests I stay the night. Again, I don’t know how to answer him, so he clarifies. “I have a guest room.” I accept the offer, and he lends me sweats and a T-shirt to wear in the morning. And after a quick kiss to the cheek and a “Thank you for a wonderful evening,” I’m alone in the room. It’s wonderfully cool, and even though this is what I want—taking it slow, no f*****g on the first date—the bed seems too big for one person. I reach out to the other side and lay my hand on the fluffy pillow, trying to imagine Pete’s dark head lying there. What will he look like when he’s just woken up, with sleepy eyes, pillow marks
