Sometimes, there are a couple of things that might not be under our control but believe me, It happened for a good reason. And once in a while, those things that we don't have control over are the things that might have a big impact on our life.
I was about to leave the campus when I decided to invite Josh for dinner who seemed down earlier. He might be arrogant but I knew he was not that terrible a person. Maybe he was just lonely ah no, he never felt lonely, he was always in the center of attention.
"Josh, would you mind having dinner with me? It's my treat for the ride yesterday and today."
Josh was preparing his motorcycle while I was inviting him to join me. I just wish that he won't be picky about the food as he suddenly throws a helmet at me. I didn't know that he had a spare helmet.
"Oh, sure. but I wanted to try those streets foods that my friends are talking about. So carry your ass now and we're going to leave"
I went at his back as he told me so and afterward, we went to this small china town. It was 100km far from my place but I didn't complain instead, I enjoy the ambiance of the moon, stars, the night view of the road. I've never known the night would be so beautiful like this.
Right at this moment, I feel so comfortable with someone that I barely know. I raise my hand, higher than my head while I start screaming which brought me into a bliss of happiness. It feels pretty good.
I saw a bustling city where the traffic is not moving a single inch and everyone was walking very fast but Josh was a clever driver, he could pass over through the neck and neck traffic, he is a good driver like a pro.
After passing through the massive traffic, we have finally arrived at our destination which is china town.
At the entrance, the smoke of the stall's food dawned on us. You knew the food was delicious by just standing in the front of your chosen stall and inhaling with smoke.
They also sell a huge variety of foods from different cultures and continents but mostly they sell dishes from Asia.
I wanted to try as much as my stomach can deal with. I let Josh choose which we're going to try first. He wanted to slurp something so he choose this chinse ramen where they deserve the spiciest soup across the city and personally, I'm not into spicy dishes but I tried to be brave so I won't look pathetic at him, wish me luck.
The staff guides us toward the empty table where no one is sitting. I was nervous if I would be able to handle that kind of spicy ramen.
Josh was taking off his uniforms as he was just wearing a sleeveless shirt where everyone could easily notice his brawny and well build body.
"Aren't you taking off your uniform?" Asked Josh as he was handing his hand toward me. I gave him also my uniform as he hides them in his bag, despite how tiny his bag is, he force them just to insert my clothes inside. I am trying my best to be tough and not look scared in front of him.
"Is the ramen that spicy?" I asked out of my curiosity.
"I guess so. They said it's the spiciest ramen in this town maybe yes. " Josh replied immediately. There's no turning back now. It's just a few minutes of waiting when the waiter served us our order.
It's was red like blood and the aroma was strong enough to figure out the soup was spicy as f**k but on the other hand, Josh was enjoying sniffing the strong aroma of his ramen that I wouldn't dare to.
Josh start touching his food like it was nothing to him, he doesn't give a s**t if his body was sweating while me, I haven't touched my food.
Josh spotted me, not touching my bowl. He asked why I haven't eaten my food and I was afraid to tell him the truth because for sure he will make fun of me so instead, I took my chopsticks as I grab a single noodle. I made it dry first before eating it but it was still spicy enough for me to take a sip of water.
It was like a manga while chewing the single noodle. very strong, very scorching inside my mouth. What more if I took all of this. I would surely end up in the hospital. definitely.
Josh was done eating his ramen and noticed my bowl that seemed untouched. Again, he asked me why I haven't eaten my ramen. As I was afraid to tell him the truth, I lied and made an excuse for him.
"Not hungry yet but you can have mine if you're still hungry," I told him, even though my stomach is growling in starve. I won't make sacrifices for this food.
"You sure? What perfect timing. I haven't eaten since lunch" Replied Josh with a hint of happiness showing through his face that I find very cute. Ahh? Did I just call him cute? What's wrong with my mind, It never crossed my mind to call someone cute especially for a guy. What a weird thought.
Again another weird thought occurred on my mind by just staring and watching him eating his ramen.
I can't help Josh catch my attention with his wet body due to the ramen he was eating. I was staring closely at every sweat that fall off his forehead until it reach his cheek. I gulped in nervousness as I decided to leave the table and went to the nearest restroom.
I was facing the mirror. Washing my face that looked kinda awful when I saw the dark circle that Josh gave me yesterday with his punch. I touched it but instead, I get upset for having this, It made my heart throb as I feel something weird on my heart, it was like an ache but it wasn't painful. How strange isn't it? I stayed inside the restrooms for a couple more minutes, figuring out this feeling. I've never felt this to anyone before but Josh does make me feel weird this way.
When I gathered all of my thoughts but the question running on my mind is still unsolved. I left the restrooms in two minds.
I walk to go back to our table but the more I get closer, my heart beats faster and harder.
"Are you done?" Josh asked, preparing himself as he was ready to leave.
"Ah, yes. Sorry, it took me a while" I left our p*****t on the table. We leave the ramen shops as we start roaming around the china town.
Josh stopped by at the takoyaki stall as he asked for one order and then he didn't it by he gave to me as he said. "Here, you haven't eaten your ramen so you must be hungry." I took his takoyaki without saying anything but hearing his words give me a hint of blush. My friends told me Josh doesn't care about anyone but seeing this kind of his attitude, they are wrong. People sometimes show their care in their own way just like this guy next to me.
"This takoyaki is good, wanna have a bite?" Without thinking, I asked Josh who had just eaten two bowls of ramen but Josh doesn't refuse my offer. He stopped walking and asked me to feed him. He was opening his mouth, waiting for my takoyaki, however, I am too embarrassed to feed him in public and I don't want people to misunderstand us. "I'm waiting" Josh's mouth was still wide open, waiting patiently for his takoyaki while staring at me.
"If you want takoyaki, feed yourself. You have hand hands." I said. Unexpectedly, Josh hides his hands inside his sleeveless shirt replying. "Now they're gone so feed me." I am not heartless enough to not pay attention to his request especially when he is looking at me with his hazel eyes puppy eyes were on. He was just too cute to ignore.
"Fine, but only one bite," I said and agreed with Josh just to make him stop bothering me. I see myself not winning against him.
"Thanks," said Josh, grinned from ear to ear as he had never been fed by someone.
"wipe that grinned off," I said and walk a bit faster to set a gap between his pace but Josh kept trying to walk beside me without knowing that he is the reason why I start acting strangely after the ramen meal.
Every time Josh was getting closer to me, my heart rate increases for no reason that made me feel uncomfortable. Not because I hate it but because I don't know what exactly this feeling is. It's new to me.
We were like having a walking race for like 2 minutes before he grabbed my hand and pull me. Asking me.
"What the heck wrong with you?" Asked Josh who completely has no idea that he was the reason that I start acting weird. I just nodded and replied back
"No it's was nothing. Why you asked?"
"Well, you might be in trouble if I lose my sight of you because you walk too fast and that's weird. Are you perhaps running to one of your exes? Cuz it's pretty obvious. To me."
"Hell no! We're 100km away from our place and everyone here is a stranger to me! " I replied and explained with a high pitch tone of voice due to the false allegation to me.
"Okay, I see. By the way, let's go over that bench and take a little rest before going back." Josh said as he lead the way through the bench where I saw a bunch of different kinds of couples, doing those couple things.
I sat and lean my back against the bench, looking at the silver phantom orb in the sky. It's stunning and glimmering. It eases my mind.
"Who had the biggest impact on you while you were growing up?" Out of nowhere, Josh asked. I got surprised by his sudden question. I tried to think as much as I can dig into my memories but there is no answer to Josh's question.
"I think, no particular person. I was growing up by myself. Although, I have Lil sister but when we turn as teens, everything changed right before my eyes" The question made me somewhat sad, knowing that I grew up without having someone special to me.
"I got one only friend back then. He was my neighbor then turned into my best friend. We were having a lot of fun like we have our own world but sadly he died and that's because of me. I tend to forget everything about Andrew by not being late but this morning. Everything flashbacks. Those tragic memories that I have been put into a grave a long time ago" Said Josh, I knew he was in pain by just listening to his sad voice.
And to be honest, I don't know what to do not to say to him, I've never listened to someone's drama before I mean my girlfriend's drama is different.
"Now, it makes sense to me why you act like that this morning. I don't know you that much but I think, it's not your fault. you are still a child back then. Don't be so hard on yourself." I said, trying to cheer him. But Josh who still down in the mouth before I came with this idea to make him back on his feet.
"Get closer to me. I'll make you feel better. Now that you're close to me. I'd like you to close your eyes and think absolutely nothing and start counting from 1 to 40 and after that, slowly open your eyes and think of someone that would make you feel happy, it can be Santa Claus, parents or even girlfriends any person that you want to be with you right now. It works to me and I wish to you too." My ex-girlfriend used to do this to me because I often imagine her like one of those monsters from the movie monster inc.
Josh laughs a bit and I wonder who is he imagining right now. He touched my chin for no reason and I was completely taken by his sudden action.
"What are you doing?" I ask josh.
"Ah, as a kid, I've wanted to touch Mr. Megamind's chin because of the mustache on his chin. I was Carried away. Oliver"
"No way! That blue evil guy?! You watched that movie too?!"
We start having a long conversation beneath the moon without noticing the time and crowded place slowly reducing the people but Josh and I didn't care about it as we continue talking about our favorite cartoon movies like there was no tomorrow.
I discovered a lot of fun things about Josh that he wasn't showing when he's on the campus. He was a good friend to keep, you just have to get his trust first. He doesn't trust easily but he did trust me even tho, we just met the other day. Weird.
The happy moment does need to end just like our conversation. It's already 2 am in the morning. There was no stall, all of them were already. We didn't even realize as we both decided to leave.
I won't forget this night. This China town, the ramen, and the foods.
