Chapter 5 Getting Engaged

761 Words
Jason entered the room like a star, immediately becoming the center of attention. Several CEOs quickly surrounded him, showering him with compliments. He stood tall and confident in his custom-made suit, smiling gracefully yet maintaining a distance. This was a true member of the elite. Seeing that Jason was about to be escorted to the VIP lounge upstairs, Scarlett knew she had to act quickly or she might miss her chance. Steeling herself, she watched as Jason broke away from the crowd and moved to a quieter area. She hurried after him. She waited outside the restroom for a while, making sure no one saw her, and then called out, "Good evening, Mr. Bilbo." Jason paused mid-step, looking up to see Scarlett. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes. His gaze was intense, and his blue eyes burned as he stared at her. "Good evening, Scarlett. You look stunning tonight." "Thank you," Scarlett replied, though she wasn't as relaxed as he seemed. She glanced around nervously before saying, "Mr. Bilbo, can I have a few minutes of your time? I need to talk to you." Jason raised an eyebrow, seeing her urgency, but didn't refuse. Scarlett found a secluded spot and led Jason there, ensuring no one could overhear. She then spoke, "Mr. Bilbo, I need a favor from you. Please, I really need you to agree." He seemed in a good mood and didn't mind her formal tone. "What is it?" Jason asked directly. Scarlett looked into his deep, dangerous eyes. She initially wanted to ask him to pretend they didn't know each other, but that felt ungrateful. He had saved her life. And pretending not to know each other was just heartless. She decided to be honest and looked up at him. After a deep breath, she confessed, "Mr. Bilbo, I'm Jack's fiancée." She threw out her engagement as a test? Would what happened that night affect her marriage to Jack? Jason's mood darkened slightly. "So what?" Scarlett hadn't expected him to be so indifferent. Jack was his nephew! If the two families couldn't unite because of this, Jack might be fine, but her father would certainly disown her! Her mother's situation would become even more difficult! He didn't care, but she did. "Mr. Bilbo, I'm getting engaged to your nephew next month," Scarlett emphasized straightforwardly. "And?" "Can you please keep what happened that night a secret? I don't want my family to know." As Scarlett spoke, footsteps echoed nearby, making her panic. If people saw them together, it would be a disaster! Noticing her tension, Jason quickly pulled her into a nearby corner. In the tight, confined space, Jason whispered in her ear, "You want me to keep what happened between us a secret?" The warmth of his breath made Scarlett's skin tingle. She tried to back away, but tripped over something on the floor, almost falling. Jason caught her just in time. His warm hand pressed against the thin fabric of her dress, making the heat between them rise. Scarlett braced her hands on his chest, trying to keep some distance. She lowered her voice. "Yeah, just don't tell my family. If our families meet later, you can pretend you don't know me. I lied to them about going to see a friend. They don't know I went to Nas State." Jason neither agreed nor refused. "You came to me just for this?" "Yes," she replied. "How old are you?" Jason asked. "Twenty," Scarlett admitted, taking a deep breath. Jason's eyes widened slightly. She was twenty, fifteen years younger than him! They had coincidentally crossed paths twice. Each time, she had asked something of him. Jason's expression turned cold and unreadable. "I'm a businessman. I don't do favors. I make deals." Scarlett wasn't sure how to handle him. He cupped her face, forcing her to look at him. His blue eyes were like deep abysses, impossible to read. Scarlett's breath caught in her throat. The danger he exuded filled her senses. Knowing his true identity, she constantly reminded herself to keep her distance. They were from different worlds. Thinking of all the rumors about the Bilbo family's ruthless leader, she had no choice but to say, "If you keep this secret, I'll do anything you ask." Jason's eyebrow raised, his tone indifferent. "Anything?" Scarlett's heart pounded, but she mustered the courage to say, "Anything except breaking the law, committing crimes, or anything immoral." A faint, inscrutable smile played on Jason's lips. He handed her a room key. "After the party, come to this room. I'll be waiting."
