Chapter 3 Repay Me

857 Words
"Why did you come to Nas State?" Jason asked casually as they walked. "I just needed to clear my head..." Scarlett explained and then walked up to him, her tone sincere and earnest. "Jason, thank you for today. I lied about being the farm owner's wife to scare off those drunks. I'm really sorry for causing you trouble." Scarlett winked, like a lost fawn in the forest. She tried to force out a polite smile. "I really need to get home now." Jason felt a stir in his chest. He wasn't the type to hide his interest. Watching Scarlett walk towards the door, he reached out and grabbed her. Scarlett lost her balance and fell into his warm embrace. Scarlett tensed up. Oh, God, what was he going to do? His familiar yet foreign scent enveloped her. He lifted her face, their eyes meeting, and Scarlett was stunned. He was unbelievably handsome and sexy, making it hard to refrain from her desire. Jason gazed down at her. She looked so clear-headed and proud, which made her even more... enticing. He smirked and issued an "invitation". "If you want to know me better, be a bit more proactive." Scarlett's face turned crimson at his words. She pushed away from him. "No, no. I need to go home." Jason stared at her for a long moment. Just as she thought he might let her go, Jason suddenly kissed her. The faint taste of mint and smoke filled her mouth, cool yet igniting a fire within her. Geez! He was really something! Jason's voice was low, carrying a hint of rogue charm and temptation. "I helped you out. Don't you think you should repay me?" Jason pulled Scarlett's hand downward. The warmth on her neck and ear made her shiver. Scarlett's hand brushed against his hardness, making her heart race and her face burn. "I'll buy you dinner, Mr. Bilbo." Scarlett pulled her hand back and turned away. Just a moment ago, he was Jason, now he just was Mr. Bilbo... That was not what he wanted. His blue eyes fixed on her. "Just dinner?" Scarlett was extremely nervous. His voice was full of allure, making her heart beat wildly. She shook her head, forcing herself to stay calm. Her gaze quickly scanned the room and landed on Jason's silver gun. Noticing the wear on his gun holster, indicating it had been used for a long time, she said, "How about a new holster for your gun? This one looks too big for it." Jason's eyes darkened, pulling the gun out. "You know about guns?" Scarlett shook her head and pointed around the room. "No, but you seem to like them a lot." "I do enjoy them," Jason replied, his eyes roaming her face. Scarlett felt his gaze travel from her face downward, making her uneasy again. Pretending not to notice, she said, "But I don't know how to use them. Can you teach me?" Seeing her deliberate attempt to change the topic, Jason found her amusing. One moment she was polite and obedient, the next she was boldly shifting the conversation. She was brave and cunning, just his type. Instead of calling out on her little ploy, he moved behind her, lifting her arm. His hand slid down her skin, guiding her hand to the gun. Scarlett's breath hitched. She couldn't break free, so she let him guide her. With a click, they loaded the gun. "Of course," Jason said, his tone suggestive. Then, with a bang, they shattered the glass of juice on the table. Scarlett was startled, standing rigidly in place. She hadn't expected him to teach her right away. He was too dangerous, impossible to predict. Jason's lips brushed her ear. "Got it?" Everywhere he touched felt like it was on fire. Scarlett steadied herself and said calmly, "Thank you, Mr. Bilbo. I got it." She quickly handed the gun back and stepped away to put some distance between them. "Uh... it's getting late, Mr. Bilbo. I should go." Every "Mr. Bilbo" was a clear attempt to create distance. Jason looked at her. Scarlett's thick eyelashes trembled slightly, her eyes looking away, clearly avoiding his gaze. She was obviously resisting any further interaction with him. Being so young, she probably didn't know her thoughts were written all over her face. He didn't like forcing people. After giving her a once-over, he said, "Go get some rest. I'll have my driver take you home tomorrow." Scarlett panicked even more. He wanted her to stay? Scarlett quickly said, "I can't trouble you anymore. I can get a cab to take me back." Jason frowned slightly and pulled her into his arms. Scarlett was caught off guard, her cheek pressing against Jason's chest. Through the fabric, she could feel his warmth and the unique scent of his masculinity. Her heart raced, and her face flushed. She wanted to push him away, but his grip tightened, making her even more nervous. "Jason..." Jason grabbed her arm and pushed her onto the bed. He covered her with the blanket and leaned in close. "Don't worry. I'll make sure you sleep well..."
