Grace
I looked at all of them. Almost everyone was gone by now and people who were still here, were certainly not going home.
“Come on, we won't kill you.” Jake said as he continued smirking at me. I'm not unfamiliar with these kinds of situations. I've had my fair share of these bitter situations, but they were never around my normal life.
“Or kidnap you.” That guy, Mason said as he continued checking me out. The last guy with a name, Ethan, didn't say anything, just stared at me. Like he was studying me.
“Or leave you stranded alone…” Jake continued as he took a step forward slowly, like he was about to pounce.
“... at night…” Mason said as he moved his eyes towards the dark sky.
“We won't do anything.” A voice came out of nowhere. I looked up to find Ethan walking towards me. It made me take a few steps back. He threw his both hands in the air in a surrendering gesture.
“We seriously, won't do anything.” Mason said intimidatingly.
“Stop it man. She's scared. Stop scaring her more.” Ethan pushed back Mason with his hand on his chest. He came to me and in a reassuring manner placed his hand behind my back.
“You ruined our fun, dude.” I heard Jake say. Ethan led me to the BMW car. He opened the door and led me in the back of his car. Jake got in the driver seat and Ethan in the passenger seat. Mason got in the back with me still smirking and staring at me. Jake started driving the car. I looked outside and tried to avoid them as best as I can. I could feel Mason's eyes on me. There was a very painful and awkward silence, all the while Mason was staring at me while Ethan and Jake taking glances at me in the rearview mirror. I couldn't take it any more off the staring, so I yelled at Mason.
“Why are you staring at me?”
“I'm not.” He replied.
“Yes, you are.”
“What can I say? You're worth watching.” I gave him a look and turned away.
“Idiots.” I muttered under my breath. Suddenly, Jake stopped the car. I looked at him and he stared directly at me.
“Out.” Jake said without any emotion. All three of them opened their side of the door and got out. I got out of the car. It was becoming a real scare for me. It was almost two thirty in the midnight. We were in a deserted area and to my utter fear my phone did not have signals with only fifty percent battery. I forgot to charge it, in the hurry to the concert.
I wrapped my arms around myself. The cold air was making goosebumps appear on my skin. I walked around to the hood of the car.
“What now?” I asked. Annoyance visible in my tone.
“Are you going to start this staring competition again? What the hell do you want, just say it goddammit!” I yelled at them when they didn't say anything and didn't stop staring at me.
“Why? Are you scared that a 'boy' like me will do something to you?” Jake said breaking the silence. I was confused.
“I thought we were clear. I won't cross your way and you all will leave me alone. Then what are you trying to do now.” I screamed at them. I was panicking. I just wanted to go home.
“I realized you never apologized to me.” He said, resting on the hood of the car.
“Where's this coming from?” I asked.
“Let me finish. I looked at your background.” My heart slammed into my chest.
“And… I found something interesting.” My breathing accelerated but I stopped breathing. I saw Mason looking at me and smiling, knowing about the effects Jake's words were having on me.
“You are a charity case. You are in MHU because of some scholarship.” I breathed a deep and heavy sigh of relief. They did not find out about my work. I was about to thank god when another type of tension gripped me.
“A scholarship that is my father paying off for.” I was tired of him, making me feel less than. Anger rushed into my veins and I could not control myself.
“A scholarship that was your father paying off to me because I f*****g earned it. I didn't let anyone buy myself into this college. I'm not here because my father is rich or because I was spoon-fed.” I pointed at my finger at him, huffing my breaths.
“I've had enough of your s**t. I'm not going to apologize to any of you, because you know what? You all are still boys. And not just any boys but you all are five years old kids that don't have work for anything. You are f*****g brats and I don't know how your parents handle you. If I were them, you would be locked in a room so that the world could have some peace. And… I'm not going to apologise to any of you. Even if It means that my scholarship is being taken away.”
“Oh really?” Jake took some predatory steps towards me.
“You won't care if you leave this scholarship? What would you do after that? Go back to foster care?” Crap! How did he know? His words shut me up. I had no idea what I should say next. I took a deep breath and looked at him.
“Sorry. There now, I said it. Happy now? Leave me alone.”
“It's not that easy. I want you to really apologize. Really apologies. Not as a statement but as a request. I want you to beg for my forgiveness. If I find it good enough then maybe I will consider it.” No matter what I say, they are not going to leave me alone. They saw me as a new shiny toy to play with. I would not go back to foster care. I'm eighteen years old and most importantly, I work and earn my own money. I'm financially independent.
“To hell with you.”
“Get her.” Jake said to Mason and I started running.
