“Are you being serious right now?”
Elenor’s mouth hangs open, making me smirk.
“I am. Deadly. You’ve done brilliantly raising Sylva, and I don’t want her to be without you. She still needs you. I know you have a brother and cousin you would have to leave behind. But I don’t want you to think you can’t see them again. I visit Blue Fire often, and I would bring you back with me. They will also be permitted to visit you in Lykos.
“You will also have your own room and the weekends off. You can do whatever you like in your spare time. I will spend the weekends with Sylva. It’s time I got to know my little girl, and I need to do that alone.”
“Wait,” Elenor shifts in her seat. “You expect me to live with you?”
I stare at her for a moment. Her mismatched eyes are mesmerizing. I’ve never seen anybody with one blue eye and one green eye. Interesting. She’s beautiful, too. Not that I want her or anything, but I can appreciate a good-looking woman when I see one.
“Yes,” I answer. “As Sylva will be living with me, it’s obvious you will be too.”
“You’re aware that I’m pregnant, right?”
I lick my lips and nod. “Yes, I am aware of that. As long as you think you can manage your job and child, I don’t have a problem with it. I am also aware of your mate.”
Elenor scoffs. “Mate. Yeah, right. I don’t have a mate. No true mate would ever do what mine did. If I ever see him again, I’ll rip his throat out!”
I raise my eyebrows at the ferocity with which Elenor said that. This woman is vicious. Remind me not to mess with her.
“The point is,” She continues. “I neither need nor want a mate. The one-handed to me used me and tossed me aside. Whatever his messed-up reasons were, I don’t care. Even if he turned up right now and begged on his damn knees for another chance, I wouldn’t give it to him. I am worth so much more than that.”
Every woman is worth more than what Elenor went through. No one who is gifted a mate should ever treat them so appallingly. He shouldn't have touched her if the man couldn’t give Elenor what she needed. What he did was cruel and vile.
However, there is something I need to know.
“And the child? What if this ex-mate of yours wants contact?”
Elenor rolls her eyes. “Tough shi.t! This baby is mine to love and protect until they are of age to make their own choice about their father. Until then, he has no rights!”
She doesn’t mean that. Elenor is angry, and I’ve known a couple of women say similar things through their anger. However, once they have time to calm down, they reevaluate. Punishing the father through the child only harms the child in the end. I can’t speak for Elenor, but she doesn’t strike me as a woman who would indefinitely keep her child from its father.
“If I do come with you, would I be able to keep my dog?”
I forgot about that damn dog. I was curious why Xale allowed Elenor to keep the dog when he didn’t allow such things in his kingdom as a rule. I didn’t have time to ask him, and it doesn’t really matter. When Sylva spoke of the dog, I saw how happy it made her.
I would allow the thing to come with us, but Thane doesn’t like them. Mixing dogs with Lycans and Werewolves is not a good idea. The little bastards tend to think they’re much bigger than they are, and they will attack because they aren’t too different from Wolves. However, dogs always end up ripped to shreds. I would never allow that because it would break my little girl’s heart.
I can’t break Sylva’s heart by not taking him either, so I will speak to Thane and see what we can do. But I want to meet this dog first. I want to make sure it’s not aggressive. Sure, it’s okay with Sylva and Elenor, but the dog might not be with anyone else.
“I won’t lie to you, Elenor. Dogs aren’t allowed in Lykos. I’m surprised it was even allowed to stay in Dragon Country.” I hold my hand up to stop her protests. “I am not saying I don’t want you to bring the dog. I’m saying I will have to speak with the Lycan King before I can say yes. I would also like to meet the animal first.”
“Okay.” Elenor nods.
“Is the dog a dealbreaker, Elenor?”
She looks me right in the eye. This woman may look fragile, but I can tell she is anything but. She has a powerful aura, but it’s something I can’t quite put my finger on. Ricon said Elenor was a hybrid Dragon and Siren, but I can sense something more.
Why can’t I sense what she is?
One of my powers is to know these things instantly, even if someone tries to hide what they are. Whatever, I’ll figure it out later.
Elenor shakes her head. “Of course not. There is never a choice to be made when it comes to Sylva; she will always win. I will not leave her, so I will come to Lykos with you.”
Good. That’s one less thing for me to worry about, and Sylva will be over the moon.
“I will take you to meet Decker, my dog. You’ll see what a good boy he is and how much he loves me and Sylva. But if you don’t think taking him is a good idea, or the Lycan King won’t allow him to come with us, I’ll ask my brother to care for him. Leaving Decker behind will hurt, but losing Sylva would break my heart.”
I always knew the person chosen to care for Sylva would love her. Anyone taking on that job would love the child or children in their care. Unless they were heartless, and in that case, they shouldn’t be doing the job. However, looking into Elenor’s eyes, I can see how much she loves Sylva.
I’m doing the right thing, taking this woman with me. I get no ill feeling from her at all, and that can only be a good thing.
“I guess you best introduce me to this dog of yours.”
“Okay. But remember to go slowly. Decker is extremely protective. You’re a Lycan, and he might feel threatened.”
Great, that’s just what I need.
‘Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.’
‘Shut up, Dante! I don’t need you to protect me from a damn dog!’
My Lycan laughs inside my head. ‘If he does pounce, I’ll eat him.’
“You will not eat my dog.”
My eyes widen as I look into Elenor’s eyes. She heard my conversation with Dante. No one but the Dragon and Lycan Kings and their Queens should be able to do that!
“What are you?” I glare at Elenor, who smirks while folding her arms around herself.
What is going on?
Who is this girl?
“A woman.” She laughs.
“This isn’t funny!” I yell, but it doesn’t seem to faze her. “You heard what my Lycan just said. No one should be able to do that!”
“Maybe shut your mouth next time, and I won’t hear you!” She snaps back.
I narrow my eyes. ‘Dante, what is she talking about? Were you talking through my mouth?’
‘I don’t know. Maybe?’
I growl. ‘I’ve told you not to do that!’
‘It’s not my fault you’re too dumb to know I’m doing it.’
‘Why you…’
Elenor snaps her fingers in front of my face. How rude! “Are you done yet?”
“A little advice for you, Elenor. Do not continue with the disrespect. Regardless of what you think of me, I am still a prince.”
“And I’m just the help.” She scoffs.
“I didn’t say that, Elenor. It’s good that you speak your mind, but there’s a time and a place. I let you say what you did earlier because you needed to say it, and I needed to hear it. But now, you’re just being rude.”
Her eyes widen, and I see her jaw tick. But she doesn’t give me a snarky comeback as I assumed she would. I like that Elenor is outspoken, but the fact remains that she cannot speak to me like that, especially not in front of my family. There are rules and etiquette that she needs to abide by. I am not saying she would speak to me like that in front of my family, but I’m not sure she wouldn’t either.
Without another word, Elenor leads me to her little house. I hadn’t realized how far the walk was until I made it. Damn, I am a real bastard for sending my child to live out here.
All eyes are on us as we walk further away from the castle. I look at the people staring, and they instantly turn away. I would give them a piece of my mind, but I don’t have the energy.
When Elenor and I reach the house, she takes a deep breath and opens the door. The smell of fresh linen hits me as I walk through the door. I look around and smile. The place is like every other small home, but it’s super clean.
The open plan living and dining room is uncluttered, but there are toys on the dining table and beside the couch. This is where my baby girl plays, where she eats and sleeps. I hope it won’t be too much of a change for her to move home with me.
“I’ll just be a moment. Decker is out back.”
I nod, and Elenor walks away from me. While she’s gone, I take the opportunity to look around the house. Every single part of the house is clean and smells nice.
I make my way down the long hallway and open the first door I come to. It’s the bathroom. Kid’s bath toys litter the sides of the tub. I bet my baby girl has fun at bathtime. I’m going to need to pick up toys of all kinds. As soon as I get home, that’s just what I’ll do.
The next room I come to is clearly Elenor’s. I don’t go into the room; I close the door without even looking at what’s in there. When I reach Sylva’s room, I step inside and can’t stop smiling.
Her little princess bed is made, and the toy box in the corner is open with toys spilling out. The pink curtains are open, letting in the light of the early evening. The big white rug in the middle of the room is soft, I can see by looking at it.
Everything I asked for Sylva has been provided. Elenor has given Sylva everything she was able to. If others hadn’t told me, it would have been easy to see by looking around the home she had created.
I leave the room and find Elenor waiting for me in the living room. She wants to say something that will make her sound rude again. I can see it written all over her face, but she bites it back, making me smile.
“This is Decker.” She says with little emotion.
I look at the bi-eyed dog and squint my eyes. It looks at me, shaking its head slightly. What a fool.
“Elenor, where did you say you got this dog?”
“My parents gave him to me. Why?”
“Because that is no dog.”
“What?”
