Amelia
I tossed and turned all night, thinking back to what my dad told me about Yanex’s dad. I can still not wrap my head around how someone that evil exists.
‘Time to put your big girl pants on.’ I told myself as I sat on the edge of my king-sized bed.
I glanced at the clock on the bedside table, noticing that it was only seven AM. I grabbed a hair tie from the bedside table and pulled my hair to a messy bun on my head.
I walked over to the ensuite bathroom, flipping the light switch on and automatically closing my eyes. I opened them again and blinked rapidly to let them adjust to the light, then turned on the faucet. Today is going to be one hell of a day.
Walking toward the walk-in closet after doing my business in the bathroom, I decided on a very casual outfit—no need to dress up.
I pulled the black shirt off the hanger, and some ripped blue jeans. I got dressed, deciding to leave the nest of my hair in the same bun. I grabbed my cellphone and slid it into the back pocket of my jeans.
I curled my hand on the bedroom door handle, pulling it open.
“Good morning.” Yanex greeted me as soon as I opened the door.
“Good morning.” I replied, smiling at him.
He was like my drug. My dad has always been a coffee lover, passing that trait onto me, but Yanex was my caffeine. He took two long strides, engulfing me in a hug.
“Why are you touching my daughter?” My father’s voice sounded through the system.
“Dad, you know I am eighteen, and he is my boyfriend!” I yelled from Yanex’s chest, not letting him go.
“Amelia, my office. Now.” My father commanded, making me chuckle.
“I’m being summoned to his office. That is a change.” I murmured, moving away from Yanex’s embrace and walking toward my father’s office, holding hands with my man.
I skipped knocking on my father’s door and opened the door, walking in with Yanex right behind me. My mother, father, and Jacob were standing in my father’s office.
Men, being men, were standing as if they would be going to war. My mother, on the other hand, was shaking her head as she witnessed the takeoff they were taking.
“I have been summoned.” I stated, as a matter of fact, pissed off that I wasn’t allowed to eat breakfast first.
“We need to continue our little conversation.” My father advised, as he sat down on the chair.
“Okay, well, can you take that look off your face? Yanex is not going anywhere. Either you begin trusting him, or I don’t know what would happen here, Dad.” I warned him.
I know to them it may be recent, but our relationship is not from two days ago or two weeks ago. We have been together for a year. I believe that if destiny brought us together, we were meant to survive this.
“Dad, I am not going to choose sides here. So I hope that you get on board and fast. If Yanex’s father guesses who I am, we are in deep shīt.” I said while I sat on the chair across from my father. I could see how he was fighting with himself.
I will never be able to imagine how he must feel; your only daughter falling in love with the son of the man that attempted to murder you and your wife. I don’t know how I would feel.
“Dad, for us to get out of this stronger than ever. We need to work together. We need to know everything that happened in the past.” I mentioned as I grabbed Yanex’s hand and intertwined our fingers together.
My dad looked at my mom, who nodded at him. “I think it’s time, honey.” My mother whispered to my father, who sighed and rubbed his face.
You could see the demons that he was fighting within himself.
“Long story short, your grandfather sold your mother to the highest bidder. He had a nasty addiction, and when he could not pay his debts, he decided to give his mother up to pay debts. The only thing he did wrong was that he gave her up to Beau and me.” He said, nodding toward Yanex. “I was looking for your grandfather, and when I saw that he was nowhere to be found, I decided to go after my p*****t. I did not expect to fall in love with her, but we are still strong almost twenty years later.” He stopped and looked at my mother, took a deep breath, then continued.
“Your mother was here maybe two weeks when one of my guys betrayed me and left the door to the kitchen unlocked, and Beau came in and took your mother. I thought he was dead at that time, but that motherfūcker has more lives than a cat.” My father exclaimed.
I sat there for an hour listening to the stories and the hell that Yanex’s father put my family through.
Yanex
If I thought I hated my father before, what I feel for him now is even worse. I will have to pretend not to know any of this until I find out what he has to say. Now more than ever, I know that what he wants to tell me once I get back home is who the Lombardi family is.
“How is your mother?” Lombardi asked.
I sighed, wondering if it was best to shove it under the carpet or tell him the hell that my mother had had to endure. I choose the latter.
“She is as well as one can be. I understand my grandfather gave her his back once she decided to stay with my father. She has no one but me, and she had no friends because he fūcks them all and then has me kill their husbands.” I said, feeling nauseated by the thought. Amelia and her mother both gasped at what I had just said.
“Why don’t you both get us some coffee?” Lombardi asked his wife and Amelia. Surprisingly, they didn’t fight him on it. They both stood up and walked out of the office, leaving me with Lombardi and Jacob.
“Great, now that my princess is out of the office.” Jacob mentioned, sitting straighter in the chair. “I don’t trust you for shīt, so as long as you are staying in this house, keep in mind, I will be watching your every move.” He said, standing up from the chair.
“I am going to go. All I want to do with this little fūcktard is beat him to pulp.” He said and left the office.
“With that—“ Lombardi said, but I stopped him by raising my hand.
“I understand that it may be hard for you to trust me. I would’ve been in New York if I wanted to hurt Amelia. I don’t think that I have to repeat myself. I am not going anywhere. I could repeatedly sit here and tell you my life’s story, but as Amelia said, we are doomed if we don’t work together. Not only will he kill you, but he will kill me too. Now, I am sorry for interrupting you. Go ahead.” I said as I sat straight in my chair.
“As I was saying, I am sure that Jacob made it very clear. My initial intention was to drag you down to the basement and have my way with you, but I won’t do that because of Amelia. Just know that you in any way let one tear drop out of her beautiful eyes, and I will not make the same mistake that I made with your father. I will kill you myself.” He said with finality.
“Agreed.” I said with a nod just in time as Amelia, and her mother walked into the office.
“What are you agreeing to?” Amelia asked as she sat on the chair next to me.
“Your father gets to kill me if I ever make you cry.” I told her with all the seriousness in the world.
“Dad!” She exclaimed as she looked between the two of us. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it.
“It’s okay, princess.” I assured her.
“I will need some training on how to live this lifestyle. Thanks to you, father, dearest, you never even told me what it is that you do.” She said as she brought the coffee mug to the top of her lips and inhaled the scent.
At that exact moment, my cellphone rang. I slid my hand into my pocket to dig it out and looked at the caller ID. My heart hammered as I looked up. “It’s my father. I have to take this.” I said, and went to stand up.
“We will remain quiet. Answer it.” Lombardi said.
I know this is to test my loyalty to his daughter, so I did as I was asked.
I pressed the green button and answered. “What?”
“I need you to do a job for me up there.” He replied.
“What is that?” I asked, feeling annoyed, knowing that I would have to leave Amelia and kill whoever was on his fūcking list now.
“Watch how you talk to me. I will have my way with you when you get back, you little fūcker.” He replied, making me roll my eyes.
“Nothing new. Who is it now?” I asked him.
“I was going to wait till you came back from your little trip, but you are already there. Why wait?” He asked, and I felt bile rising in the pit of my stomach.
“I’m waiting.” I replied.
“I need you to kidnap someone.” He said, making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
“Kidnap? Since when do you kidnap people?” I asked him.
It’s true. He never kidnapped people. He killed them and his whole fūcking family.
“Don’t ask questions and do what I said!” He growled.
“Who the fūck am I kidnapping and why?” I replied, rubbing my face.
“Amelia Lombardi.” My head snapped up. I looked at Lombardi and shushed him with my finger.
“Who is that, and why am I kidnapping her?” I asked him.
“I told you not to ask questions, you fūcking t**t!” He growled and slammed what I assume was his daily glass of liquor.
“You are aware that I am in Italy with no backup. I need to know what I am getting myself into. Send me all the info you have.” I ended the call with that and slammed the phone on Lombardi’s desk. His anger matched mine.
“We need to come up with a fūcking plan!” I yelled as I looked up at him.
