“You have a good night, Mrs. K,” he called up. “Let us know if you need anything.” But she’d already gone back inside and didn’t reply. Vic let himself into his own apartment, where Sadie sat directly in front of the door, tail and tongue wagging with happiness. With a soft wuff, she jumped up, putting her large paws as high on his chest as she could to lick his face. A large dog, Sadie was part golden retriever, part who knew what, and a hundred percent lovable mutt. Vic would take her for a walk later—he and Matt both, it’d be good to get out of the apartment together—but first Vic had to clean up.
