Chapter 2 - A test of patience

Adam’s POV

The smell of his mate was filling him. A wonderful fragrance of berries invaded his nose and fuelled a primal need to find the source. Adam had heard the initial reaction to finding a mate was strong, but this almost shattered his self-control as his wolf pushed to the surface. He quickly moved to the stand, sniffing the air around it, finding the exact place she had been standing and took deep gulps of his mate’s scent. Large arms gripped him as he struggled with the needs and emotions crossing his mind.

"Adam. Adam! Snap out of it man.". Kyle shook him, trying to bring his focus back. Fortunately, there weren’t many students close by, but the few who were, stopped to stare at the strange behaviour.

Adam took some slow, deep breaths, clenching his fists with the strain to not rip off his Beta’s hands and seek out his mate. Slowly his eyes began to lighten to a dark brown and Kyle hesitantly released him. He quickly led him out of the hall, away from curious onlookers. The corridor was thankfully empty of humans, giving Adam some breathing room to react.

"Where is she?". Adam growled; canines extending.

"Adam, you need to calm down. Remind yourself we are in a human school. Humans Adam!".

His Beta's distress reached him and Adam slowly nodded, retracting his canines and claws, which had lengthened without him realising.

"Who is she?". Adam breathed in relief as his wolf receded for now.

"Her name is Lucy; she seems to be the only wolf in the school. But Adam, you need to know...".

"Oh, there you are Adam!", Miss Evergreen cooed, tottering towards them down the hallway in her heels.

"Address me as Mr Black.". Adam rumbled, fed up with her assuming some familiarity between them.

She blinked slightly in shock but then purred, "Of course, Mr Black.".

And just like that, my wolf has gone into hibernation.

Adam rolled his eyes at Kyle, who snickered. The teacher glared at him and grabbed Adam’s arm to pull him away, "It’s time for your presentation. Come with me.".

Reluctantly he followed her, but he managed to slip her grip.

Will you be ok Alpha?

I have to be. It’s only a short talk, how bad could it be?

Adam mind linked Kyle pushing more confidence into his voice than he felt. A pit of dread sat heavy on his chest as the worse case scenarios crossed his mind. He had always had a good balance of control with his wolf, and yet he couldn't help but feel concerned about the talk ahead and if his wolf would be patient. Even the presence of the annoying human woman hadn’t distracted his wolf enough to pull back entirely. Adam could feel him running around just below the surface, howling with joy at finally finding his mate. He couldn’t help but smile at the thought too. 7 long years he'd patiently waited, another 15 minutes would be a piece of cake.

The second hall, set up for various talks throughout the day, was where Miss Evergreen led him. When they arrived at the front of the room, she hooked her arm through his again, pulling him in close. Her b****ts were pressed up against his arm and she made sure to keep moving them against him to garner his attention. It was all too forward and obvious for his own taste, but she was oblivious to his disgust.

"Stand right here, Mr Black. I’ll come and get you after the talk.". She gave him a flirty smile and strutted to the back of the room, sashaying her hips as she went. Adam tutted at the shameless way she acted in front of her students.

He slowly rolled the tension out of his neck again and promised his wolf a long run later as a reward for putting up with this all day. Hopefully, he wouldn't be alone and his new mate would join him. His wolf rumbled in agreement, as eager to meet her as Adam was. Adam smiled to himself, letting his mind wonder to happy thoughts of his mate and their future together. As his thoughts drifted to his she-wolf, her scent hit him again. A beautiful concoction of berries, combined in the most perfect way just for him. How he longed for a taste.

Adam whipped his head around to locate her, easily picking her out in the crowd. Her eyes were already locked on him, and he was instantly fixed. Her eyes glimmered like a fresh field of grass hit just right by sunlight. They sparkled as they greedily roamed his body, his wolf purring from the intensity of her gaze. Instinctively, he straightened up and puffed out his chest a little and saw a smirk dance on her lips from the display. It was a beautiful smile, showing her pearly white teeth between plump, pink lips.

Finally, he allowed his eyes to travel her. Her soft rounded jaw was pleasantly framed by long ink-black hair that reached to her waist. He gulped slightly when his wolf stirred stronger within him again. He wanted to go to her and had to tense all his muscles to refrain from moving. Adam forced his eyes away and his body reluctantly followed. He only had to endure the presentation, then he could go to her. He just hoped she understood why he had to stay away for the moment.

"Everyone, please take a seat.". His voice commanded attention and immediately all eyes in the room were on him. Adam flashed a smile as students filed into the rows of chairs before him. He tried to maintain good eye contact with the whole crowd, but he couldn’t stop them searching for a particularly inviting pair of green orbs sitting in the front row.

"My name is Adam Black, CEO of Black Accounting Limited. I have been invited to talk to you all today as my family has a long history in this town and built up our business from scratch.". Adam began the presentation, going onto autopilot. He had done this same talk many times and could recite it in his sleep. Though the topic of the talk was of no interest to these students, his authoritative voice and commanding presence gripped the audience and left them hanging on his every word.

Everyone except one, whom he noticed squirming in her chair and flushing every time his eyes locked onto hers. She was sitting with her legs crossed, making her skirt ride high on her thigh. Adam felt saliva pool in his mouth at the small flexes of her thighs as she subtly tried to curb her own desires. He could smell her arousal building and stumbled over the next couple of sentences, turning his back on the audience for a moment as if he was reading directly from the presentation on the screen behind him. It gave him the moment he needed to wrangle his wolf before continuing.

Are you ok?

Kyle stood at the side of the room, he had inched closer to his Alpha, watching him closely incase he had to intervene. Adam gave a curt nod and continued his talk, unable to focus on mind linking, talking and curbing his desires all at the same time.

He made it three quarters through his talk when Lucy jumped up from her seat and almost flew from the room. He was so shocked by her sudden movement that he fully stopped talking, staring after her as she barged through the hall doors. Adam’s wolf was pushing for him to follow her, make sure she was ok, but he couldn’t. His jaw clenched at the restraint as he eyed the crowd again. His wolf was hyper now, flicking between snarling at Adam and crying for his mate as Adam struggled to the end of his talk.

A few minutes after she left, he felt a strange tingle across his body, followed by a wave of pleasure making him instantly harden. Adam quickly turned away from his audience again but couldn’t stop the sensations running through him and had to move behind the speaker’s podium. There was no way he could hide his growing bulge in these suit trousers. Adam’s jaw clenched together as he felt more pleasure building across his body, teasing and tempting him to let his wolf out and chase for his mate. Was his woman trying to kill him? Knowing what he was doing, she was teasing him from only a few rooms away, tempting him to drop everything and run to her. Adam's wolf was certainly in favor of that option and was quite happy to push images of his gorgeous mate touching herself into his mind. How was he going to finish the talk with his d**k at full attention?

Grannie Black, Grannie Stone, Old man Black, Grandad Stone. All naked and dancing around a bonfire.

Adam almost recoiled from the image the words conjured in his mind. What the f**k Kyle?

If you can stay hard thinking about that, you have a problem.

Kyle was snickering from his spot in the room and Adam knew he would never live this moment down. As much as Adam didn’t want to, he followed Kyle’s advice and ran that image over and over in his head all the way to the end of his talk. He even managed to turn off his wolf enough to walk out from behind the podium for his closing words.

"That’s all from me, but if you have any questions about accounting, the company or being a CEO, please come and find Kyle and I at our stand.". When Adam spoke the last line of his talk a wave of relief passed over him. He managed to stay still for 2 more seconds before his feet quickly carried him out of the room.

He could hear Miss Evergreen closing out the session but didn’t care to stay. He wanted to waste no more time away from his mate. Adam’s eyes darkened as he quickly followed her scent and found her leaving the disabled toilets. He strode up to her, panting in her ever-stronger scent as he closed in.

Wait, Adam, I need to talk to you first.

Kyle’s voice entered his mind, and he was quick to snarl back, his wolf more in control now. That’s Alpha Adam, Beta wolf.

He immediately shut off the mind link and focused on his she-wolf. Her eyes were wide, glued to his approach, but she made no move to go towards him. He frowned but suddenly smelt her strong arousal surround him. A growl rumbled deep in his chest when he finally reached her. Before exchanging any words, his wolf sought privacy for the two of them to meet properly and pulled her lightly by the wrist into the nearest empty classroom.
