Chapter 14: Details NOW

1807 Words
A week had passed since the night I received that video and showed it to Carol and Luca. I had spoked to Eva several times in the week when she could get away and found out a little more about the girl named Lee in the video that we all had suspicions about. Eva told me her story and it broke my heart, but it made me determined to know more, and more importantly get her to the states, even if I had to kidnap her myself.      Eva had found the book and the stone and had stopped in Paris on her way back home when she found Luscious. He had been chasing a lead there on his brother and found Lee. After following her for a couple of weeks he discovered where she worked, where she lived, and that she never went anywhere without her bodyguards. The family she was apart of were also from a royal line of wolf, but from what Luscious could tell, she had no idea about anything supernatural around her. He was concerned about the wife to the old man, he said she had Lee under surveillance and was dealing with some crooks on the side, but he couldn’t figure out just what she was up to, only that Lee seemed to be her target.      The day Eva was supposed to return to the states, Luscious and her had decided to have lunch at one of the pavilions when they noticed Lee and her friend enter without any bodyguards. Eva decided to follow the girl at a distance and as soon as she separated from her friend Luscious moved in to find out more about her, but that was unsuccessful.      After learning all that, now we were on a time constraint of cancelling the wedding and getting Lee to the states. Eva moved in with her and her roommates and they had become close, Eva was ecstatic that she had found that connection she had been longing for, for, so long. And in being honest with myself, as much as I missed her and worried about her, I knew she couldn’t be any safer than being by Lee’s side and she was our last hope.       Mr. Grumpy managed to stay away the whole week and that helped, ever since the night that he barged into his parents’ house he had been on edge even more than normal. I was working on a plan though and all I needed was to get that phone call from Eva anytime so that I could start to put things in motion.       The phone ringing took my mind off all my thoughts as I picked it up and smiled at Eva’s name flashing across the screen. “Hey baby.” I sung.       “Hi, honey, listen I don’t have long. I had to run off to call, you aren’t going to believe what’s happened.”       “Okay, biggest thing I want to know first is, can you get her here?”      “Yes, I believe so, but it isn’t going to be easy. I had to stop her from going to the meeting when I saw who was sitting at the table. Thankfully they didn’t see her or me, but we are treading on thin ice here.”      I knew this was going to be hard, “What do you mean?”     “The company they had a meeting with, the owners are Lumen and Claire, they were here. Sitting at the table, and they are requesting the company to come to the states for consulting, and since Scott and Theo told them about the dream team girls, they recruited they are demanding that they bring us.”      “Well, that’s what we want, her to come to the states.” I didn’t see the problem, I mean doing business with them was a problem, but getting her here was the ultimate goal.       “You just get me a date and time of arrival and I will make sure that we are there to intervene if you can’t get her away.”       She cleared her throat, and I knew where the conversation was fixing to go, “So, tell me about the wedding?”      I laughed, “You are going to have to get here for that. I have tried everything I can and all I can say is, he says with or without the book and stone he is marrying her. He says he has put it off long enough, and there is no reason to postpone anymore.”       “That stupid witch.” She hissed.      “I know honey. But we can do this.” I knew she was angry with her brother; his heart couldn’t take the loss any longer and he had such a strong memory spell cast over him by a coven of strong witches that only one thing could break it. And it had to be broken before he took another as his mate.       “I have to go Jake; I love you and will be in contact soon.”       “I love you too.” Placing the phone back in my pocket, I decided it was time to face Mr. Grumpy himself and try to plant that seed of doubt with a brother-to-brother talk.        The morning air was starting to get crisp that time of year in the village, and it wouldn’t be long before we would see our first snow fall. As I walked to the one place, I knew I would find my best friend I let my mind roam back to a place and time where we were all happy, where we had hopes and dreams, and we knew that we had a future. I never thought I would have hope in that again, but somehow after the last week, all that hope was starting to drown me, I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas and I wasn’t sure how much longer I was going to be able to hold on.         “What do you want?” He growled as I slowly approached the tree line.         I looked down as he sat there stretched out and propped up against the trunk of one of the old oaks. His face was aimed upwards, and his eyes were closed, from that angle he looked happy and peaceful. This was the one place where he always seemed to find the most peace these days, and he spent a lot of time there. It was also the only place you could manage to have a halfway decent conversation with him.       I sat down next to him and leaned back before I decided to answer him, “To talk to my best friend.”      “Let’s hear it, as long as it doesn’t have to do with the wedding.”     I rolled my eyes and took a deep breath; I knew it was going to be a fight, but I had to do it. “Just tell me why, why so fast, and why her, don’t you believe there is someone meant for you?”     He laughed and I let out that deep breath, at least he wasn’t shouting yet. “Look Jake, I know you mean well, but listen to me.” He spat through his gritted teeth, but he wasn’t yelling. “They are demanding an heir and I am not getting any younger. Tess will make a good leader at my side, and I control her. She is strong, she is a good warrior and will make a good mother. Plus, she isn’t bad to look at. And as far as the meant to be part, Tess is as meant to be for me as anyone. And once I seal the bond you no good and well no one will stand against us, it will only make us stronger.”       “But is that what you really want, a pretty, submissive girl, that will give a child and power?” I raised a brow at him.        “What more is there?” He shrugged.       “Don’t you want someone who compliments you, gives you a challenge, stands with you?”      “Ha!” He huffed. “Challenge me, no such thing.” He stood up and dusted his pants off, “I have to go, Alpha Dylan has some plans for that empty land on the other side of the mountain pass that we allowed him to move his pack to. I know no one likes it, but it’s one of those keep your friends close, enemy’s closer thing. There is something off about him, and I know I have said it for years now but eventually I will figure it out.”         I watched as he walked away, his hands in his pockets and shoulders slumped. The affects of his decisions were starting to weigh on him and I had to help my friend fast. I started to get up and my phone pinged making me immediately pick it up and open the message.        -Two pm Sunday, airport New York. We are coming by private plane, but Luscious is flying in same time on regular flight. Get plans in play and I will see you soon. Love you.         I smiled as the plan started working its way into my head. I couldn’t wait to hold her in my arms again, and I sure couldn’t wait to meet Lee.        I dialed a number I hadn’t dialed in seven years and placed the phone to my ear as it rang.       “Hello.” The deep voice creeped through the mic.       “Probably didn’t think you would ever hear from me again, but I have some information and a plan in play and figured you might want to be part of it. Luca is already aware and ready when you are.”       He laughed and I shivered at the demonic sound coming through, “Very well, give it to me.”      “Sending the message now, text me back when you are ready.”     “I will be waiting. Goodbye.” And that was all I heard before the phone went dead.      “Seems like everyone has gotten grumpy lately,” I mumbled as I forwarded the video to him. Once it sent, I sat back and closed my eyes waiting for the ping. I knew it wouldn’t take long.        Right on time, mere minutes after the video sent my phone was pinging. I smiled opening up the messages.              -Details NOW!       I laughed again at the upper case now and exclamation mark, but I knew what he was feeling because I was too. I quickly typed my response back and closed the phone. It was time, time to call in the troops and get our lives back to normal, and most importantly save my best friend from a mistake.
