Xander’s POV
I slowly opened my eyes to the sun shining brightly, I was curled in the bright green lush grass and the stream flowed before my eyes. I sat up quickly and rubbed my head trying to figure out where I was. Something felt familiar about the place but yet so strange.
“I see you are awake child.” An angelic voice floated from behind me. I turned to see a beautiful women with the bluest eyes I had ever seen, her long black hair with violet and blue high lights flowed loosely around her face, she was the epitome of beauty. “This isn’t our first meeting so you can pick your jaw up.”
I closed my mouth and shook my head a few times, “Where am I?”
“In my garden of course.” She said as she took a seat next to me.
“How do I not remember meeting you before or being here?”
She laughed as she patted my shoulder, “Because you chose to erase that part of your life and everything with it. You chose to take your destiny and story into your own hands instead of waiting patiently for everything to work itself out.” She sighed, “However because of your choices, you changed other’s destiny as well.”
“If I was desperate enough to erase something from my life then I must have had a good reason. I don’t see me doing something like that for no reason.” I wasn’t sure what she was talking about, I couldn’t remember erasing anything.
She chuckled beside me, “I know you don’t remember, that was the way you wanted it, you wanted it erased, and you wanted no memory of having it erased. But that doesn’t change the fact that you had it erased. And only one thing can undo it.”
I stood quickly and dusted my pants off, “If I had it erased then I had reason to have it done, there is no reason to try and undo it.” I tried to control my anger, but I didn’t like where the conversation was going.
She stood beside me and placed her arm around my shoulder, and I could feel my anger subside, “I know child and even if I wanted to, I can not undo what you have done.”
“Why am I here then?”
“I want to show you something, I want you to be able to choose your path but with an open mind. Trust me whatever you see here you will not remember when you wake up, the only thing you will feel if you choose to is that cold heart of yours beating again. Would you like the choice to choose?”
I shrugged my shoulders, “Give it your best shot, but I have already chosen.”
“Very well then.”
She snapped her fingers, and everything went dark, I was suddenly standing in an empty space all alone. Suddenly a screen lit up in front of me like watching one of those old-time movies, I was standing looking out the window of dad’s old office at the school, there was a bus of girls being off loaded. The movie fast forwarded briefly, and I watched a small girl take on my dad in his wolf form with no fear at all. I felt a sense of pride watching it and it quickly disappeared as the screen disappeared.
“Please forgive me Xander.” The most beautiful angelic voice I had ever heard in my life floated through the air and I turned quickly to find the source as I felt my heart skip a beat.
The wall lit up again and an image of me holding a small petite girl with dirty blonde hair flashed on it. The images flashed from one to the next and she was in all of them, her face never showed in not one of them, but looking at myself looking down at the girl I could see so much compassion and love shining through my own eyes. I shivered standing there as I watched, and I could literally feel every place on my body she touched. One by one I felt each nerve come to life under my own skin. The last image was enough to make a tear roll down my cheek, the girl stood a distance away from me, I couldn’t see her face, but her body was torn to shreds as blood poured from the wounds. She stood tall and proud, but I could feel her pain, I could feel my heart break and in the blink of an eye the pictures were gone, and I was back in the blackness of my own heart.
“What do you want from me?” I shouted. “Why are you showing me this? Who is she, what does this all mean?”
“You will awaken soon child, choose wisely before you do, let your heartbeat or set out on the path you have chosen.”
I laughed hysterically, the moon goddess and her riddles. “I have chosen, I am to be married in two weeks, what more can you want from me?”
“Very well.” She sung out. “Now you will awaken and forget.”
“Xan man, wake up!” Jake shouted as he violently shook me.
I slowly opened my eyes to the darkness inside the moving vehicle as I huffed in pain suddenly feeling sore all over. I managed to set straight and look over to see him smiling with that big annoying grin across his face. “What happened? Please tell me we got them.” I swallowed and rubbed my sore neck and then everything flashed through my head. That girl, “Hey wait, what happened? Where is that girl? Who was that girl?”
Jake laughed and slapped his knee, “Okay slow down their buddy. And I will answer all your questions. First of all, they got away. There was a hidden passageway in that room, and they were gone long before we ever reached the door. And you were right about Dylan, I am pretty sure he is working with them and escaped with them. As far as the human woman that was with them, I don’t know who she is, but I am working on it. We have our best trackers on them so hopefully we have a location soon.”
“Where’s Eva?” She wasn’t in the car with us, and I knew I had tried to make her leave earlier. That’s when that girl got involved.
“She is safe, she is with Luca. She will be home in a few days.”
“No, I want her home when we get there.” I grumbled. It was time for her to come home and stay, she had traveled long enough. “Wait, you didn’t tell me about the girl.”
“What girl?” He whispered and that raised my brows.
“You know the dainty little human girl that pretty much handed my ass to me.”
“Oh, you mean, Lee, I believe that’s her name. That’s the girl I was telling you about, Eva’s friend.” He cleared his throat, “Let’s not talk about her at the moment, we have bigger problems.”
“What’s that?” How could anything be bigger than what we were dealing with, I mean seriously I just got my ass handed to me by a human girl.
“Hunters were there, we learned there is a huge bounty on that girl. They injected her with enough wolfs bane to knock out an entire pack.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me Xan.”
I closed my head and rubbed my temples trying to put it all together. “She’s human though, and if she was like us, how in the world did she get away from them.”
He shrugged his shoulders and turned his head looking outside, “There is a long story there that we need to find out. But not only did she get away, she took them all down and half of Lumen’s men by herself before she got to you.”
“Then get Eva home, and set a trap for this Lee, we will catch her and lock her up until we figure everything out and then she can decide to either learn about our world and join us, or we will kill her. Makes no difference to me.” It did and the words coming out of my mouth made my chest hurt, but I needed to make a point, there was no way I could live among my people as a strong king with a human girl running around out there that could defeat me at any given time.
Jake whipped around in the seat and the look he gave me made me think he was ready to kill me right there. “Xander you are out of your mind. First of all, Eva will come home when she is ready. If you want her before then you better go, try to drag her home yourself. Secondly, don’t ever think that I will harm a hair on Lee’s head, nor will I let you. It will be your undoing. I won’t set a trap for her, or be a part of it, I won’t imprison her or let anyone else. Now I suggest if you want her to come, then you go apologize and ask her nicely to accompany us to our home.”
“You know good and well I can command you to do it.” I growled. I was already getting annoyed about this little human girl and that conversation.
Jake smirked and sat back crossing his arms, “You can command me to do many things, but unfortunately when it comes to Lee, your commands won’t work.” He pecked the seat of the driver. “Let me off here.”
“Where are you going?”
He opened the door and stepped out, “Away from you. You have completely derailed and need to figure out things for yourself.” And with that he slammed the door. I watched through the back glass as he disappeared into the night while the driver pulled back into the traffic.
“Wake me when we arrive at the airport.” I told the driver as I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.
I let the memory of the night flow behind my eyelids. Those blue eyes that seemed to pierce my soul, they were determined, fearless and strong. The lasting sparks seemed to lace my skin everywhere she had touched me. I had never felt so much power in my life, she was quick, precise and calculating. She never wavered when I had managed to lay a hit on her, she just bit her lip and kept moving. Thinking about it all I knew I had to do one of two things, I hated the thought, especially for a human, but I had to. She would be caught, I would bring her to my throne, and she would either submit and bend to our rules and serve us, or we would kill her. She was a threat to us all, whether Jake or anyone else wanted to see it.
