Chapter 4:

"Sorry, but we got orders to send you home personally," the tall one said, and I frowned before quickly replacing it with a smile. "I see. I will go ask Derick for permission then," I walked in and stopped at the sitting room. When I took a peep outside, I found that they stood beside the carriage waiting for me. After some time, I walked back toward them with a serious expression. "It wasn’t easy to convince him, but he accepted my request to go back home with a horse and alone," I said, trying to sound confident. They stared at each other, confused. Then I cleared my throat and had an impatient look. Finally, they gave in and brought me a horse. Without wasting time, I got on the horse and rode off at full speed without taking my luggage. I kept riding with excitement, even though I had been rejected by my husband and my family had shown no care for me. At the end of the day, I had only one thing, and that was freedom. "Ahhh!" a group of ladies screamed out when they saw my horse running straight toward them. I quickly steered in a different direction, but this made me fall off the horse. They hurried towards me and surrounded me. "Are you okay?" "Is she dead?" I heard their voices and slowly opened my eyes. The ladies looked rough and frightful. I jumped up in haste and dusted off my dress. "Uhm, I… I am fine," I stuttered and stared at my horse, which had screamed and run away. "Come back here," I tried going after it and wondered why he ran away. Then I looked behind and found that there were not only ladies but also some men holding swords. I swallowed hard. Why were they staring at me angrily? I didn't hit anyone, and besides, I was the one who got hurt. "Who are you?" one of the muscular and hairy men asked with a sharp tone. I wasn't going to let their looks intimidate me, and I had to look for an escape route while doing that. "Who is asking?" I asked with a frown, and he clenched his fist tightly. Then a lady held his shoulder. "Stop, she is not from the royal family, so she is not our enemy," the lady said. My eyes widened in shock. Who were they, and why did they consider the royal family as their enemies? They were not even aware of the fact that I was now married to the prince. "Then why did you come from that direction?" the man asked while glaring at me. They all turned towards me, waiting for a reply. "I… I was a maid there, but I decided to leave," this was the only excuse that came to my mind, and I could see them loosen their guards. "Did you leave because they treated you badly? You can tell us," the lady asked with a worried look. I couldn't blame them, as every member of the royal family was cruel and known for their harsh maltreatment. "Why do you speak of the royal family with so much hate in your eyes? Who are you?" I asked the man curiously. "We are rebels," the other man, who looked slim and gentle, said. I gasped. I had heard about a group of people who gathered to go against the royal family and take down the monarchy. I had always thought these people were hopeless because the royal family was so strong, and it would take more than a simple gathering to ruin it. They needed a crowd to defeat the royal family, but they were just a few. "You have two choices: either come with us, or we take your life with us," the muscular guy said, and I gasped in shock. They were not kidding. They needed more people to join them, so they were ready to convince anyone to join their cause. I had no idea what to do. Joining the rebels would be dangerous, but going back to the royal family was no better. I had to make a choice, and I had to make it fast, was I ready to be one of the people going against the monarchy? -- Clovis's POV: After a hard struggle, I managed to take down a good number of wolves, and I was ready to do more damage. Makia still hadn't transformed into a wolf. He just stood there, watching the fight. I knew that once the leader was down, the rest of the team would follow. "Grrr…" I quickly jumped toward Makia and pushed him down, making the other wolves scared. Makia pushed me off and glared at me angrily his eyes completely white. "You will regret this," he swore before wolfing out. He aimed toward me, and I was quick to dodge and push him down. Then he fell on a sharp sword, injuring his hands. He stared at me angrily, but I didn't react. I had already taught him a lesson, and most of his army was down, so there was no need for me to stay. Without wasting time, I fled at full speed. I could hear heavy footsteps behind me. The guards were following me. I kept running and finally got close to my horse. I knew it would only be a matter of time before they caught up with me, as my speed wasn't comparable to theirs. I re-transformed and got on my horse, which rode out at full speed. Unfortunately, Makia and his men had to retreat as they got on their horses and rode out. The injured ones were taken along, including Makia, who had injured his hand on the sharp sword. "Who was that?" the scared wolves finally came out of hiding after watching such an intense fight. "He is our savior. He just saved us from the hands of the evil king," a man yelled out, and they all agreed. If this wolf hadn't shown up, they would have lost more lives and their kingdom as well.
