~ • ~ "Your Majesty. Welcome back." His trusted beta came into his office with stacks of papers on his hands. A loud thud was heard when he dropped them on his desk. "The Ogre King has sent his reply." He handed him a letter with a green seal on it. Alexander tore it open and read it without hesitation. "In the next three months, we will be hosting a banquet." He threw the letter into the bin. "The Ogre King wanted to pay us a visit." "Yes, of course. I will have it prepared." "How long was I gone?" He rubbed the temples of his head and groaned. "Prior to her disappearance, it had been a month." "I do not see why this is happening to me. The slave has brought my beast into turmoil. It is unexpected. Have I been spellbound by her too?" "Gamma Clent and his men did not have the same effect as yours, Your Majesty." "Then why did my beast took control of me?" "I do not have the answer myself. However, I will look into it. By the way, are you planning on letting her be hanged for all eternity?" "I do not believe the word 'eternity' is fit to define a human slave's numbered days." "Your Majesty, if you would let me. I would like to see this slave up close. Would you please excuse me for a moment?" "And what is your purpose?" Alexander's curious gaze arose. Beta Reeze seems to have realized his change of demeanor since his king did not once question his purpose. But this human was an exception. He noticed that Alexander had taken his interest on her. Now Reeze is getting more intrigued by the slave female. "I am curious how influential this person is rather than guessing and concluding from afar, so I want to have a close encounter with her firsthand. Judging by your beast's uncontrollable behavior, I would like to look into it further, starting from the root of your tormoil, sire." "Be my guest. Then I shall go with you." Reeze slightly bowed and followed behind. Loud footsteps demanded attention as they passed by the hallway. All who passed by them bowed and submitted until they disappeared from their sight. That is how respected they are among his people and feared by others. While on the way, they heard pups laughing and heard beating noises. They did not make haste and took their time walking towards the cause in a cool and regal manner. They stood a few feet away as they watched the teen pups beat the defenseless slave with a stick. She did not mouth a scream of pain; she only tried to bend her body forward to prevent getting hit, but it was futile. A guttural growl alerted them. Pups then quickly threw the sticks away as they tried to hide their weapon of assault. His hooded eyes locked tightly on her bruised face. She was struggling to not shiver in front of them. Alexander smirked. Their king continued to walk further, and the teens cowered back, daring not to look up. "Who told you to act this way without my consent?" His voice was low but cold and commanding; it made pups pee in their pants. "We apologize, Your Majesty! We came across this slave, and she threatened us. We only ought to teach her a lesson." "Liar!" The slave shouted and a mist came out of her trembling mouth. She did no such thing. Only she was targeted because she could not fight back. Their king did not fail to see how the pups glared at her. He could see their anger boiling in a pot, as did hers. "You are dismissed." They thanked their king, bowed, and then sprinted away. The slave gritted her teeth but said nothing. She was not ashamed to display her displeasure with him, even with a bruised face. "Did you piss yourself, slave?" Out of nowhere, Reeze asked before him. When their eyes made contact, he was awed by her unique ones. "Of course not. His beast pissed on me!" "I don't recall claiming a human slave as one of my territories. You are merely-" "Merely nothing, Your Majesty." She cut him off with a challenging tone. "But I do believe you can smell a lie, do you not?" Reeze held his laughter and cleared his throat to loosen their tense atmosphere. He was amused by this. The slave was telling the truth, but his king's face was full of disbelief. The slave's witty reply showed them that she was not easy to deal with or that she was not afraid to die. She was courageous and an ideal match for their king. Not to mention how she was able to survive Rosa's beating. He does not see why his king would waste such a beauty like her. Having red hair is uncommon in their land, and he thought how his king would want to throw away such an opportunity. She might come in handy. Or she might become one of his mistresses. Nevertheless, she was human. She was the human who slept in a crystal bed and who made their king unhinged. He finds her severe reviting as her ethereal beauty. So the rumors were true. Reeze mentally stated. "Your smart mouth got you into this mess. You do not have the right to be aggressive towards us." Reeze stated it in a calm tone. "Who asked your opinion?" She did not care about his status. Rather, she was annoyed. Concluding that the Lycan king and him have the same mentality. Because of her defiance and lack of respect, she earned his growl. And if it weren't for his king blocking him from attacking her, she would have died under his claws. The human really made Alexander's lips stretched to smirk. She was really difficult to deal with, and in a snap, she managed to rile his beta, who was more cool-headed than he was. "Tsk. Forgive me, Your Majesty." Reeze realized his mistake. Now he concludes that the female was more cunning than he thought. He would have lost face if he had let his anger get the best of him.
