Chapter 11

"Female, raise your head." He stated it once more, but more commandingly this time. I did my best hold back my tears. I did what I was told, but my face held anguish. As soon as I captured his cold stare, I caught a glimpse of emotion in his eyes. Was it pain, or was it only my delusion? It only took a second before his cold stare hardened once more. "You brought this upon yourself, female. Crying is pointless." Ah, what did I expect? They are all heartless bastards. However, I did not cry, but my eyes were only welling up with tears. If I let a tear slide down, I might expose my powers to him. I chuckled and gathered enough courage to speak without trembling. "I am confused. How did I become your prisoner when I have done nothing to upset you?" "You have broken the law." "I have not! If so, would you please recall it to me?" I stated it sweetly. "The unclaimed land is forbidden for humans to enter. Have you not come across my decree?" "No, Your Majesty." I glared at him. "I have been in isolation for many months; how could I know? If I have been guilty, there should be at least a warning for an insignificant weakling like me." "A weakling? You? Your eyes have been fierce with mine. My presence does not cower you like you humans should." My eyes traveled to his tongue, which had licked his lower lip. I did the same; compared to him, my lips were dry. "Yes?" "An enchanting weakling like you could not have survived living amongst savages. I am certain you aren't one either. So what are you?" He leaned slightly forward and studied me from head to toe. I almost rolled my eyes and scuffed. I could be your worst nightmare. "Your men treated me like I am someone dangerous to your kind. As you can all see, I am human. And really? Tying my wrists with a rope? Does that ease your ego, Your Majesty?" He did not say anything; he just stared back. His warrior, namely, William, got in front of me and started squeezing my throat. This guy is getting on my nerves. Instead of staring further at him, I started to see red dots in my blurry vision as I vehemently gasped for air. After a while, he dropped me on the floor. I heaved hard, dying to fill my lungs with air. I felt so pathetic in their judging eyes. They were quiet; only my heavy gasping filled their ears. "Bring him in." He boomed. Later, I heard doors opening and chains dingling. It was going near me. I looked to my right and saw a familiar face. He looked bloody, and dirt covered his hands and feet. We made eye contact, and I quickly looked away. "Do you know this female?" There was a slight pause, and I did my best to duck my head as I fixed my legs to sit up. "I'm afraid not, Your Majesty." "Look closer." He commanded. The merchant obeyed, and I did my best to look down and wonder at the shiny floor. A dirty hand grabbed my chin and lifted my head up. My eyes widen, and I immediately avert eye contact. I wasn't so obvious, weren't I? "Your Majesty, she is a female." "Does she not look familiar to you?" He sounds irritated to me. I would be irritated too if the merchant was still too stupid to even see the answer. But I am at a disadvantage here; it would bring me great joy if he were still stupid. "Her eyes do; however, I assume he is a boy. The boy's face was covered with a black scarf." I saw the Lycan King's eyes shifted at a warrior, and the next thing I knew, my face was covered, except for my eyes. I breathed air through the cloth when they gave me no time to prepare. "Now, is this female the same person as that boy?" I eyed the merchant in a silent plea, but the yellow teeth shined the brightest when he soon realized it was me. "Your Majesty." He kneeled and clasped his hands together. "Set me free, and I will unveil the truth to you." The Lycan King was not impressed with his words. He seemed bored all of a sudden. And my face was not covered by the cloth anymore. "William..." The next second, William had the merchant by his hand, gripping his head, and raising his body up. He tried to fight back, but failed. I could hear his painful, muffled screams as he squeezed his head. My eyes could only watch as this horror scene unfolded. In a few seconds, he ripped him in half, and blood splattered everywhere and on my face. "Female, shall we continue?" My frantic eyes landed on his. There was no escaping this. He already knew about the merchant and me. What the fck have I gotten myself into? I am aware that he was trying to scare me. The merchant's death was only a warning. "What do you want from me?" I tried not to tremble as I spoke. "Answer my questions truthfully, and I will grant you your freedom." I find his condition hard to believe. I remained silent. "Are you the boy that we have been searching for?" "I don't know. What do you mean, Your Majesty?" "Your eyes—the boy that the merchant had talked about—are the same as yours. Forest-firefly eyes. We put a bounty on his head many days ago, and surprisingly, my men found you. A mysterius female who possesses such ethereal beauty, sleeping in a crystal, I did not expect that boy to be a female all along." I remembered the words he first said when he saw me; he already knew. Yet why did he bother asking? Does he expect me to lie and be punished for it? He is indeed cunning, as they say. I bit my lower lip and averted his gaze. Suddenly, the tall window had me in a daze, and I breathed in his alluring scent. This is some sort of game for him. My life for his sickening pleasure. The surprising thing was that my hatred for him did not even last an hour. What is this feeling? Why does he have such a strong effect on me? "Are you a witch?" "No." I answered in a heartbeat. "Why did you buy masking sprays from that merchant?" "To hide from the savages." I told half the truth. "Why do you live alone on the outskirts of the village?" "Because I wanted to." I told half the truth again. "How did you acquire the ruby and the crystals in your cave?" "I found them there." He went quiet for a while, and I would not dare look up again. "Do you know Professor Popa?" I tensed at his next question. How will I answer this time? Should I tell the truth? Either way, there's no escape for me. "I used to work for him. The gems were one of his hidden treasures." "Your words are as tricky as your beauty." "Wha-" "Escort her back." "No!" I scurried away from their reaching hands and moved forward using my knees. It was painful, but I endured it nonetheless. "Your Majesty, I beg of you. I cannot go back to that dark cell! Please, I will do anything, anything you say!" I saw the way he lazily lifted his hands to stop them. His hooded eyes glinted as he smirked down at me. Whatever he is thinking for me, I will have to endure it, except being thrown back to the cells. I cannot go back there; I would go insane and die from extreme depression and anxiety. Who knows how long I will have to be kept rotten there, but I will not risk another day of imprisonment. I will have to patiently wait for my chance and plan a perfect escape. Let these sick games of his begin.
