Chance
It’s not like me to walk up to random women and ask them to join me for breakfast, but she was here again, jogging along the front. I’ve seen her here every single day for the past two weeks, and it’s taken me until now to pluck up the courage to talk to her, only to be rebuffed.
What the hell is all that about?
My best friends, Jude, Kody, and I jog each morning. Always have done since we were fourteen. The moment I saw her, something in me changed.
My friends noticed the girl right away, of course. Both made comments about her body. Both wanted to see who could get her into bed first. I shot that down instantly. She’s mine, and she doesn’t even know it yet.
The guys obviously found funny the fact that I’d staked claim to the girl. But she is beyond beauty. She’s not like all those other girls, the ones who look like they could use a decent meal. She has curves in all the right places, curves I want to get my hands on.
It took me two weeks to so much as speak to her, but Kody was right; she wouldn’t come to me. She hadn’t once noticed any of us. I was the one who needed to make the first move.
Talking to her, I felt the sparks. The girl may have looked at me like I was crazy, but I know she felt them, too.
How could she not have?
Those sparks were flying high and bright.
I know she liked me; she was checking out my body shamelessly. I liked that; it was a turn-on. But she shot me the fuc.k down! Okay, I'm a stranger, and the girl was more than likely worried I could attack her. Then she mentioned being the brunt of men's jokes, and I was seething inside. She doesn't know me, but I would never do such a shitty thing!
What is she hiding?
What is she running from?
Me at the time.
“What happened?” Jude asks as I make my way back down to the front. I run my hand through my long hair while blowing air through my pursed lips. “You chased her off?”
“She wasn’t interested.” I shrug.
“Don’t worry, bud,” Kody slaps me on the back. “If she didn’t like you, there must be something wrong with her.”
Patronizing pri.ck!
“There was nothing wrong with her!” I snap, making them both laugh.
I sometimes wonder how in the hell we became friends. Sleeping with any woman that moves might be their thing, but I wasn’t raised that way. Call me what you will, but I have respect for women. That’s not to say I’m a monk because I’m not. However, my father taught me better than to use a woman for my own ends.
“Chill out... You coming tonight?” I nod at Kory. “Need me to pick you up?”
“I can drive, Kory. Jesus, I’m not stupid.”
“I never said you were stupid, Chance. Fuc.king hell. Dude, you need to chill the fuc.k out a little.”
“Whatever. I’m going home; I’ve got sh.it to do.” With that, I turn and walk away from them.
“You need to get laid!” Jude calls after me. “Like seriously, Chance. Get some girl to ride your coc.k. It might make you a nicer person to be around!”
“Fu.ck you!” I flip them off while walking away. I can hear them chucking behind me.
Jude has a point. I do need to get laid. It’s been how long now...? A good couple of months, I’ll wager. I’m losing my touch!
But I know there’s a way for me to get through to that girl. I just have to try harder. I want to know more about her; I will not just give up.
I am Chance Archer, and Archer’s do not give up.
Ever!
