Chapter 2

After a couple of hours, I’m finally finished unpacking. This room has everything. Including everything from a massive bed, huge private bathroom and gigantic walk-in closet to a personal balcony and a fireplace with a couple of comfy chairs perfect for when I need to get lost in a book. KNOCK KNOCK “Who is it?” I call out. “It’s me, sweetie.” I hear Mrs Mateo call from outside my door. “Come on in!” I shout. “Are you all unpacked?” She smiles. “Yeah. Isaac helped me with my books, thankfully. He almost seems superhumanly strong. It’s kinda cool.” I say as I rub my chin. Like, come on. Imagine if he was a superhero or something. That’d be pretty awesome. “The boys have always been strong. Just like their father.” Mrs Mateo says after a moments pause. “Mrs Mateo-“ “Please call me Kat, sweetie.” She interrupts as she holds her hand up. “Kat, is there maybe somewhere, private, I could go to when I need to be alone?” I ask hesitantly. “Of course. How bout I show you tomorrow?” “Perfect. Thank you.” I reply gratefully. “Ok. Now come on, dinner is almost ready. I would like you to help me set the table, please.” She says in a slightly questioning tone. “Of course.” I smile as I stand up. “Perhaps you should put some pants on.” She smiles cheekily. I look down and realise I’m in my underwear. The most embarrassing thing? I’m in a g-string. “Yeah, thank god you didn’t bring any of the boys with you.” I breathe out as Kat chuckles. I walk into my closet and pull on a pair of booty shorts. Unfortunately, I don’t have much in the way of clothes. “Ok, let’s go.” I smile. Kat looks me up and down and smiles. “You are going to be a definite distraction to my boys this year. I can’t wait to see them squirm.” She laughs, causing me to laugh with her. “I’ll try my best not to be.” “Oh no, dear. I’m going to help you to be. My boys need their egos taken down a notch or two. Maybe even three. We’ll see what happens.” She smirks devilishly. I smirk at her, and we start to laugh again.   Kat is incredible. She seems more like a best friend than my carer. I love that I get along with her so well. And she looks fantastic for her age. “Ian, Zac, you’ll clear the table tonight,” Kat says as she takes a sip of her wine. “What? I don’t think so.” Ian says rudely. No one says a word to him about being so rude to Kat. I look at Kat, and she seems a little upset at her sons disrespect. Her eyes meet mine, and I raise my eyebrows as if to ask if she’s alright. “I’m used to it by now, sweetie. It’s fine.” She says sadly. “Used to it? That disrespect is not something an amazing woman such as yourself should be used to. Ian, APOLOGISE.” I say sternly. Ian and his brothers all stare at me, confused, while Kat looks at me, shocked. “Why?” He asks as if he doesn’t know he disrespected his mother. “You disrespected your mother. Apologise, NOW. Preferably before I lose my shit.” I say, getting frustrated. Maybe I should’ve taken my necklace off before dinner. “I’m not apologising.” Ian states. I groan as I feel my magic build up in my hands. I look beside me at Isaac. He nods as if to say, ‘hit him’. I think of throwing him against a wall as I raise a hand towards him. And once I have a hold of him, I lift my hand a little higher until he is in mid-air, and then with a flick of my wrist, I send him flying into a wall. Everyone is quiet and staring in shock as I sit down and have a drink of water. “Clementine, you're a witch?” Kat asks, surprised. “Sort of. I’m a siphon.” I tell her. I mean, there’s no point in hiding it. They all saw me throw Ian into a wall. I really need to learn control. “What’s a siphon?” Dominic asks. “I don’t have my own powers. I draw power from spelled objects. Or anything magic-related, really. If there’s magic in it, I can siphon it to use as my own.” I explain in a way they’ll understand. “I’m sorry for disrespecting you, Ma,” Ian says as he kisses Kat’s forehead. Ian begins clearing the table, followed by Zac. He stops when he gets to me. “That was pretty amazing, but it hurt like f**k. Please don’t do it again.” He says quietly. “Don’t be a d**k, and I’ll consider it.” I smile, to which he just nods. “I’m exhausted. I’m gonna head to bed. Thank you for dinner, Kat. It was incredible.” I smile as I stand up and leave. I found my bedroom pretty quickly. Thank god for photographic memory, huh? I changed my bed shirt and got into bed, quickly slipping into a deep sleep.
