Alexis’s POV
“Get me The Gamma now, do not wake the Alpha or Luna!” A woman’s voice spoke. It was one of the voices from before. It sounded kind. “Ok young one, we are not going to hurt you. Take deep breaths, I am going to give you something to help your breathing.” It said as it approached. Just then it grabbed something from behind the bed I was in and placed it on my face. I jumped to start with.
“It will help you sweetheart. Trust me I won’t hurt you at all, I promise.” She spoke. She sounded sincere so I trusted her. I don’t know why but I let her place the thing on my face, I realised it was a mask, I could feel cold air coming through it, it stung my parched throat, but it did help me breath.
“Deep breaths now young one, count as you breath, deep breath in 1…2…3… breath out, then start again, 1…2…3…” she said as she did as she was asking me. The door opened again, and an older man entered the room, I had seen him before, he patrolled the border occasionally. He was there the time I was almost caught. I began to panic even more. As he came closer, the woman noticed this and stopped him.
“Get these restraints off her and wait outside.” She asked him. The man looked shocked at her for a moment,
“This is my hospital, now this poor girl is petrified. Remove her restraints now and wait outside.” She said to him sternly. He came closer and took off one of the restraints and turned away towards the door.
“The other stays on matron.” He said in a gruff voice. I used my now free hand and grabbed at the mask holing it over my nose and mouth. The matron as I had heard walked to the machine and turned it off. She then looked at me calmly.
“Deep breaths sweetheart. Count as you breathe.” She said speaking softly. I did as she asked and counted as I did it. After what seemed like forever it became easier to breathe. The room stopped spinning and my vision became completely clear again. I looked around the room again. I realised I was in a hospital and the walls were perfectly white. I looked back at the woman, her features much clearer now. She had dark grey eyes, shoulder length silver hair and a few wrinkles, but not overly wrinkled.
“Right, I am going to bring the Gamma back in. Don’t worry he won’t hurt you sweetheart. I’m in charge here, as long as you pose no threat I will remain in charge, ok?” She explained. I nodded my head agreeing with her, although I was puzzled as to how I could pose a threat to them. I still had the mask over my face and still had one hand bound to the bed. I was also a child. The matron walked to the door and opened it, I heard her talking to the man outside.
“She’s calmer now but she is petrified still. Go easy ok!” She said sternly.
“Yes matron.” He replied sounding a little nicer now. He followed the matron inside, I started to panic a little, but he stopped when he saw.
“I do not wish to harm you young one. I will stay here if you would prefer. I just want to ask you a few questions. Is that ok, do you feel up to answering them?” He asked in a polite tone. I nodded my head slightly.
“Right, I will ask the questions now, ok?”
I nodded my head again.
“Where are you from?” Was his first question.
“The eastern rouges sir.” I said, my voice harsh and sounding raw. I expected him to shackle me again, so I prepared for it.
“Who hurt you?” He asked instead. I looked up shocked. I looked from him to the matron who was approaching the bed with a glass of water. She handed it to me, and I took a sip, testing it. It tasted normal to me, so I had another swallow.
“My family and pack mostly.” I said sadly.
“What is your purpose here?” He asked. I looked at him confused. “Why did you come here?” He clarified.
“I don’t know, I just needed to get away from them.” I said, a tear falling down my face.
“Finally, what’s your name?” He asked softly.
“Alexis. I do not know my family name sir.” I replied looking down and my hands.
“Very well. I will return with the Alpha in the morning. Try and get some rest young one.” He said, as he turned towards the door to leave.
“Sir can I ask a question?” I asked him.
He turned his head to face me and nodded.
“Where am I?” I asked. I prayed that it wasn’t the pack I had been told had a ferocious Alpha that showed no mercy.
“You are in blood moon territory young one.” He told me. My heart sank. I was surely going to be killed tomorrow. At least my suffering would end now. The matron looked at me with sadness in her eyes.
“I will be back in a moment sweetheart.” She spoke. I placed the glass on the cabinet beside the bed I was in and sank back into the bed. It was so comfortable. I had never felt so comfortable before. I pulled the cover up to my chin and brought my knees up to my chest. At least my final night of life was warm and comfortable. I heard the door open again and the familiar shoe steps of the matron. I never turned to look though.
“I will leave this here for you.” She said before leaving the room. I wanted to look what she had left but at the same time I didn’t. I remained curled up and began to drift off to sleep.
“I may die tomorrow but at least I am warm and comfortable now.” I thought to myself, for the first time in years I dreamt.
I was working in a kitchen. There were people all around me busy doing things. There was food being cooked and food was going outside. The kitchen smelled amazing. I looked down in front of me and saw the cake I was decorating. It was a large red velvet cake. There were 3 candles on top and letters that read “Happy birthday Sam” piped with red icing.
“How’s my boys cake coming on Alexis?” Someone asked me.
“I have just finished it, Luna.” I replied. “What do you think?” I asked her.
“That looks fantastic. Well done. You have definitely mastered the piping skills.” She responded.
“Mummy is my cake finished yet?” A little boy shouted as he ran in and hugged the Luna’s legs. He had curly blond hair that bounced as he ran. She bent down to pick him up.
“What do you think of that Sam?” She asked him as she showed him the cake.
“Woweee. Thank you, Alex.” He said in a cute little voice.
“You are very welcome, Sammy boy.” I said with a giggle.
A loud noise woke me up. I woke with a smile not remembering where I was completely. I followed where the sound came from, rolling over in the bed. My right hand was still shackled to the bed. That’s when I remembered where I was. The matron had come back in to check on me.
“You haven’t eaten your food sweetheart. Do you not like it?” She asked me concerned. I looked over and saw a brown box.
“What is it?” I asked her.
“Why don’t you take a look and see.” She suggested. I sat upright in the bed and reached my left hand over. I pulled the small box onto my knees and fiddled with the lid. I struggled with it and was ready to give up. That’s when the matron came to my right side and opened the box for me. Inside was a rainbow-coloured swirl on top of a small cake. I looked at it shocked.
“Is this really for me?” I asked out of amazement.
“Yes. I wouldn’t have given it you if it wasn’t. How long has it been since you had one?” She asked me.
“I have never had one.” I told her still amazed at it.
“Oh, my goddess. You have never had one?” She asked seemingly shocked. “Well hopefully the alpha will let you stay, and we can make sure you have plenty.” She added. I looked at her perplexed.
“Why would he let me stay. He’s said to be ferocious.” I said to her. The look on her face was a picture.
“Really. That’s what you think?” She said to me.
“That’s what I have been told all my life. The alpha of this pack is said to have wiped out an entire pack, leaving few survivors and turning them into slaves.” I told her, remembering all the stories I had been told.
“They have told you the wrong end of the stick sweetheart. I will let our alphas explain. They are on the way.” She told me.
“Did you say Alphas, as in more than one?” I questioned her.
“I did. We have two alphas.” She told me with a grin. Now I was extremely confused.
Just then the door began to open. My heart began to pound, and my palms became sweaty. I watched as the door opened and a man and a woman walked in. The gamma was behind them, with a smirk on his face. I wanted to hide but my body was frozen in place.
“Hello Alexis, I am alpha Jackson, and this is my Luna, Alpha Lauren. Please do not be afraid of us. We mean you no harm.” The man said. I looked at the Luna and then back at the Alpha. I had heard the story of a female Alpha, but I was told she was killed. That’s what the leader of our rouge pack had told us.
“You're not dead?” I asked her.
“No dear, why would you ask that?” She questioned.
“Because that is what I was told all my life.” I responded.
“Well, you were definitely told wrong.” She said with a smile.
“Let me tell you the truth.” She said, pulling a chair beside my bed.
