Give Him A Chance

503 Words
Piper    The sun was shining through the curtains and I woke up with a splitting headache. Maybe due to all that crying last night. I was hoping it was all a dream, but I woke up in the same room, in the same house as last night.      I decided to get out of bed and go to the bathroom to shower and get dressed. There was no will in me to do anything today, all I wanted was to stay in bed.     A soft knock was heard on the door, and I opened it. It was Martina bringing breakfast. I let her in and walked to the window to look outside.    “I brought a delicious breakfast for you, Mrs. Antonetti,” she said as she was putting the tray down on my little dining table in the corner. She was still calling me by my husband’s name.    “Please Martina, just call me Piper. Thank you for the breakfast, but I’m not hungry.”     “I know, but try to eat something at least. We don’t want you getting sick,” she mentioned when she saw the dinner tray still closed with the plate full.    “I’ll try. But I can’t promise I will,” I replied, looking back out the window.     Before she left my room, she walked over and with a soft smile on her old wrinkled face she said, “I know it’s not my place, but I would love to ask you to give Luciano a chance. He’s a really good man, and he’ll take care of you.”    “I don’t need him to take care of me. I had a loving man who was going to do that and I was supposed to marry him yesterday,” tears threatened to stream down my cheeks, but I held them back. I didn’t want anyone in this house to think I was weak.    My dad always taught me to be strong in front of everyone, even if I cried my heart out when I was alone.  ~~~~~~    I decided to walk around the house just to get acquainted with it, since I’ll probably live here for a long time. Checking room by room, I had gone into what looked like Luciano’s bedroom. It was very well decorated, and modern, it looked like a bachelor’s pad.    My heart all of a sudden started beating fast. Why? I didn’t know. But being there for some reason made me feel comfortable.    After exploring his room, I walked out and headed towards the first floor. I wanted to see the garden that was in view from my window. It looked beautiful. As soon as I was about to walk out, Luciano came through a door of what looked like an entrance to the basement.     I stood there, not saying a word when I noticed him cleaning his bloody hands, making me freeze in place. He looked at me and his expression changed from anger to concern. He tried to reach out to me, but I walked away from him. What was he doing down there? Who knows, but I didn’t want to stay in the same room as him.
