I don’t know when I drifted off to sleep but when I woke up, I was cocooned in a clean duvet, warm and safe.
There was a heavy, warm arm coiled around my waist. I turned my head slightly to see Alex behind me. His head leaning on top of my head, his body wrapped tightly around me. He was naked and so was I. We are separated only by this thin layer of duvet around me.
Blushing hard, I tried to get up without disturbing him. No such luck, he stirred in his sleep and when he saw that I was awake, he sat up, his eyes alert.
He looked at me and distanced himself a little, treating me like an injured animal liable to run at the slightest movement. A small mirthless smile curved on my face.
