CHAPTER SIX

-YURI HANNA- My car stumbled to regulate the high amount of friction caused by strained acceleration, culminating in a tire rupture. Gripping the steering wheel tightly and sensing the vehicle's frantic jerking motion, I rashly pulled to the side of the remote road to avoid additional troubles. As the engine belatedly halted its unprecedented feat, a sharp exhalation broke out from my lungs and I emitted a muffled expletive. Bloody Paws was only an hour and a half away, and if I slowed down a little after Dallas's men stopped chasing our tails, we'd probably be there in a few beats. My head jerked left and right in rapid succession, bemoaning my failure. Carelessness is a terrible mistake for a bodyguard tasked with taking care of a royal bloodline, but I put off analyzing my blunder because getting to Bloody Paws quickly seemed vital at the time. I swiveled around to face Prince Killah, who was leaning against the window and staring at me through his impassable orifices. My left brow was drawn up, thinking the prince was sleeping but he was instead goggling at me in silence for how long only the goddess knew. To startle the prince, I yelled sarcastically, "Have you stared long enough?" It bothered me and my wolf to be gazed at, and the prince was no exception. Prince Killah, on the other hand, exhibited no signs of remorse for his indecent behavior; instead, his lips twitched as he constructed a small delighted lopsided smile. "I never get tired of looking; the scenery is a magnificent work of art." I let out a huff and bestowed him a suspicious look. I had no idea what was going through his thoughts and had no plans to find out. We'd only been together for a few hours, and Prince Killah seemed to enjoy goofing around— a complete lunatic. Having a short fuse, I decided to tug back my wolf's tight leash and be a little more tolerant of him. "Yeah, whatever," I murmured, and opened the door to my side. "Get your royal ass out. Hurry up." I jumped out of the car first and waited for the prince, but after a few seconds, 'His Highness' remained still in his seat. 'Mother of s**t!' suppressing a pissed grunt, I marched to Prince Killian's side. "I said out, now!" I mouthed as I pounded on the window. The window was soon rolled up, and the prince, who was faking trepidation in his stoical appearance, shook his head. "It's dark outside, and I'm a bit skittish of a forest go-" he paused as I immediately turned around and sauntered away. "Hey!" he called out. "Where are you going? Are you going to leave me behind?" My lips squeezed together as I refused to react, instead strolling quickly in the middle of the desolate road. _________________________ -THIRD POV- Prince Killah reclined back in his seat, his concentrated gaze caught his bodyguard's receding structure. He had never met anybody as frigid as ice with a temper as fiery as a furnace. "Charming," he mumbled to himself, not expecting his appointed watcher to make his stay on the east continent so riveting. To be honest, he was opposed to leaving the kingdom since there was no reason to be spooked by those murderers. Those vermin are simple to exterminate with a flick of the finger if he so desires, but there were members of the royal family he must consider. He is not concerned with the existence of others, but his parents' lives may be jeopardized if he sticks around in the West. He couldn't approve of another stigma to serve directly in his face because the deaths of their servants were more than enough to remind him that he was the source of the chaos in their homeland. For a brief period, dark clouds formed in Prince Killah's hooded gaps, but they quickly vanished when he shook his head and forced the door in his side open. He had no time for nonsense because his bodyguard was already out of sight. "Yuri Hanna, my man, did you seriously leave me behind?" he mumbled, half teasing, half complaining, as he stepped out of the vehicle, only to grimace when his shoes rubbed against the sludgy ground. "Damn it," he wheezed, but he had no choice but to stride forth and seek for Bloody Paws' beta. After a few seconds of walking, he noticed Yuri and increased his speed. ___________________ -YURI HANNA- "I infer the forest ghost is a foolish myth; where are we taking off again, sir bodyguard?" When Prince Killah finally got up with me, he blubbered and put his arm around my shoulder, bringing me to a standstill. My attention was drawn to the arm resting on my upper torso before I was gradually detached from the prince's delicate wing. I diverted my eyes to him, my cheeks flushed with annoyance, sending him a nonverbal message that I disliked being touched. Prince Killah smiled broadly and bobbed his head. "Alright, I get it." 'Finally!' Rolling my eyes at the prince. I eventually responded to his question. "Bloody Paws is close; if we ran in our wolf forms, we could reach our pack in thirty minutes." The prince stroked his hair with his fingertips. He took a big breath before asking for another inquiry. "What if we walk?" "Four to six hours, depending on how far your scrawny legs could carry you," I sarcastically remarked. "Okay, then we'll walk," Prince Killah declared, pulling a frown from my forehead. "What? Embarrassed to exhibit your lanky trunk in front of me?" I muttered, grimacing. Prince Killah arched his left brow and drew a crooked smirk back to his mouth. He leaned in closer and murmured, "Why does it sound like you're disappointed in not seeing this gentleman's glorious body?" "I've seen many, Your Highness, and yours is no different," I answered deadpan. Resting my hands on my hips, I spruced up and snarled, "Now, take your f*****g garbs off. We're going to run." "I can't," the prince refused abruptly in a subtle tone. My patience finally gave out. The glare I sent to Prince Killah was as sharp as a knife, but before I could yell at him again, the royal prince uttered, "I have no wolf," staring me down. "What?" I assumed I misheard him. "I said I didn't have a wolf." And the revelation caused us both to fall silent under the pale streak of moonlight.
