3 Mrs. Byers sat gingerly on the edge of the twin bed. She had ripped off the top three sheets of paper from her notebook and handed them to Gina. Now she lifted her pen to a blank piece of paper once more and closed her eyes. Gina stepped outside to look at the drawings. She recognized the first as the living room. None of the details drawn in, none of the squalor, but Mrs. Byers had sketched the room’s shape. One opening toward the kitchen, another toward the hallway. Mrs. Byers had drawn little circles in various spots. She drew arrows from each of them all pointing at one word: Camera. Gina’s nerves buzzed. She would have to go back inside the house. The second sheet of paper showed a camera in the kitchen. The third, in the master bedroom. If they were on, still running, still
