Chapter 1
ISABELLA P.O.V
I was sitting on a sofa chair with my ten year old son when my bedroom door fluttered open and my mate, Alpha Derek walked inside with anger. “Isabella, how many times have I warned you not to come near my stuff!” He grabbed me by the arm as he dragged me out of the room.
“Derek, what are you doing, please let go,” I attempted to free myself from his grip but he held me even more firmly. My son was just behind pleading and begging for my life but Derek would not listen to him. He dragged me along the hallway until we arrived at the basement and then he pushed me and my son inside.
“I hope you rot inside there,” he said furiously and I lifted my gaze to him with tears pouring down my eyes.
“Derek please, what is this about? I am your mate and you can’t treat me like this,” I cried out but still glaring at me he banged the iron door shut. I walked up to the door banging it as hard as I could. “Derek, Derek, please open the door,” I cried out, my lungs were tight and I could barely breathe. “Derek why are you doing this to me, please just let me out,” I said but still there was no response from him.
I ran my hand through my hair as I dropped myself on the floor, and my mind drifted back to the night Derek imprinted on me and the memories that followed after that moment, we were like two love birds and the envy of the entire pack. Derek and Isabella, those were the names ringing throughout the city. I remember his comely smile each time we visited our large garden at the back of the courtyard and the amazing stories he would tell me while I leaned my head on his shoulder and we stared up at the night sky covered with stars.
I remember our first kiss under the fireworks blistering in the sky and the prudent look on his face the very day he walked me down the aisle. How did those days vanish so quickly? I thought we were meant to be together forever so why did he suddenly change? I thought to myself still weeping as I felt my son's hand on my shoulder.
“Mom, why is dad doing this to us?” he asked with tears also rolling down his eyes and I embraced him.
“It’s okay Benjamin, everything will be alright,” I said soberly while robbing him on the back. “Your father has not been himself lately but you can’t hate him, we just have to give him a little time,” I whispered those lies in his ears even when I knew that they weren’t true. Derek was never coming back to me, I wished I could make my son understand but I couldn’t let him grow up with so much hate for his father.
“I will never leave you no matter what happens, I will always be here for you my sweet boy,” I whispered, wiping the tears off his eyes and we leaned on the wall. We remained sober until midnight and while contemplating on all that had happened between Derek and me we heard a sound from the iron door as the chief maiden Beatrice walked inside the basement.
“My lady,” she said, running down to meet me by the wall of the basement. “I came as soon as I heard what happened. You have to leave immediately.” She took hold of my hand but I stopped her.
“No, I can’t leave, I won’t run away,” I replied.
“Luna, you must leave with your child else you and your son might be killed, you deserve better than being treated this way,” she persuaded me more but I remained still.
“Tell me,” I said, still with tears in my eyes. “What kind of Luna will abandon her husband and the pack, when they need her most?”
“The kind that they are making arrangements to kill,” she replied and I looked her in the eyes. “I overheard Alpha Derek plotting to poison your meal…”
“No, Derek might despise me but don’t think he is going to do such a thing,” I said and she took her phone out as she played a video and in the video I saw Harvey in the arms of another lady, I could not tell who the lady was since her face was blurred but I saw Harvey vividly, I watched him chuckling and laughing while romancing her, I watched in unbelief until finally I heard it for myself, I heard him bring up the suggestion to have me killed. It was right before my eyes but I still could not believe it.
Their threats were not the only thing that wounded me, but the fact that my mate would cheat on me with another woman, it hurt so badly and the pain pierced deeper than anything I had ever felt.
“Save yourself, my lady. You might not have this opportunity again,” Beatrice said and the tears I fought so hard to avoid streamed down my eyes again. My heart kept aching as I took hold of my son’s hand and we fled the basement. We used the back door and on getting outside Beatrice handed us the key to one of the vehicles. “Go as far away from here as possible,” she said and I turned to her.
“You should come with us, if Alpha Derek finds out that you released me, he will have you killed,” I said to her but she refused.
“Trust me, he won’t find out but if he does I will make sure I stay alive,” she replied. “Now go,” she said and I gave her a warm hug.
“Thank you so much Beatrice, you have always proved to be loyal and I will never forget what you did for me and my son tonight,” I wiped the tears off my eyes and after another glance at the pack mansion I got into the car with my son and we drove off.
