Chapter 2 – The bitter past

“Aaron, stop running baby, we are getting late” Selena ran to her four years old son who is running here and there all over the house.
“Baby we are getting late, mom needs to go to the office also. Come here quickly” she caught her son and tickles him.
“Mom, can’t I stay at home today? I don’t like to go to the kindergarten” Aaron said with a sad face.
“Sweetheart, why don’t you like to go to KG?” Selena kneed to his level and asked.
“Because everyone is asking where my father is? All of the fathers come to drop their kids at the Kindergarten, only my father is not coming mom. Why isn’t he coming? Where is my dad mom?” Aaron asks with a gloomy face.
Five years ago
“Selena waits for me” Peter ran into Selena.
“Oh hey, Peter” she turns with a beautiful smile.
“Are you busy today evening?” Peter asks with a bright smile.
“Mmmm nothing special Peter. Why?” both started to walk toward the classroom. They both are in the university final year.
“Will you come for a date with me tonight?” Peter politely asked.
“Date? You mean you and me-only” Selena asks pointing at her and Peter.
“Yes, only you and me” Selena had a crush on Peter since the first day of the University. Peter also loves her and peter is going to confess his love today.
“Sure, I’ll come, at what time?”
“At 6.30 p.m I’ll be coming to pick you at your doorstep. Get prepared” Peter said and ran. Selena is nervous. This is going to be her first-ever date experience.
Sharp 6.30 p.m Peter came to pick her up. He wears smart casual and Selena wore a salmon pink knee-length floral frock. She looks beautiful with light makeup.
They both came to the restaurant. Peter reserved a table for them. It’s a candlelight dinner. Selena’s face is glowing to the lights of the candles. A waiter came and took the order. This is a normal restaurant, both Peter and Selena belong to a middle-class family and still, they both are university students. They both do part-time jobs.
“Selena I love you” peter took her hand and said.
“Ha” her face blushed with red and she looked down.
“I love you, since the first day I saw you I started to love you, I truly love you, Selena, you are the most beautiful girl I ever saw in my life” Peter kissed her back palm and Selena’s throat went dry.
“I love you too Peter” Selena’s face is filled with a huge smile.
Present
“Mom, what are you thinking? Aren’t we getting late” little Aaron took his bag and water bottle?
“Oh, sorry sweetheart” Selena wipe a lone tear that poured through her cheek.
They both got into the car quickly, this car she bought from a bank loan. She has to struggle a lot in her life, without a husband looking after a kid is hard, but Selena is a strong woman who has the ambition to get out from her muddy life.
“OK, sweetie did you take the snack box?” Selena asks while driving.
“Yes mom, I took everything,” Aaron said. They both came to the nursery. Selena got off of the car and took Aaron to the nursery.
“Selena, dear I need to talk to you” Headmistress Ms. Jennifer came to her. Aaron waves his hand and went into the classroom.
“Yes, Ms. Jennifer.” Selena turns with a smile.
“Selena, Aaron’s term fee should pay before the end of the month. The cutoff mark was on last month, but with special consideration and a special request made by me to the school principal, he granted another one month. Sweetheart you have to hurry, if you didn’t pay the term fee on or before the end of this month we have to decide Aaron.” Selena’s throat got choked.
“No Ms. Jennifer, I’ll pay the term fee before the end of this month. Thank you for the given opportunity” Selena turned and slowly came to her car and sat.
“Why Peter why? Why did you leave us? Why you left us alone here, take us with you also” she started to cry and hit the steering wheel. She rubbed the wedding ring which she still wears on her fourth finger.
Five years ago
“You Peter Christopher, will you take Selena Beatriz as your wedded wife?” the father asks in front of the altar.
“Yes, I do,” Peter said with a smile.
“You Selena Beatriz, will you take Peter Christopher as your husband?”
“Yes, I Do,” Selena said with a bright smile.
“You may kiss the bride now” Peter kissed Selena so romantically.
Their life went happily until the birth of Aaron. Peter started to change little by little. He got late to come home; he didn’t care about Selena or Aaron. Selena spent a hard life. Whenever she questioned Peter, Peter just scolds her saying that she only knows to complain. So Selena didn’t go to ask anything from him. Even weekends and holidays also Peter used to go to the office, but Selena didn’t know that whether Peter is going to the office or any other place, because she is busy with Aaron’s work and household work.
Selena felt that Peter’s love has faded away. She never thought that her first and last love will be dying like this, she did her best to keep the family together, but Peter has changed, he didn’t share anything with her, Peter neglected Selena and Aaron. Aaron is just five months. One night a call came to her mobile.
“Hello is this Mrs. Christopher” a man’s voice came from another side.
“Yes, who is this” she checked the time. It’s 12.30 a.m. Peter didn’t come home yet. Her heart started to beat fast.
“Ma’am we are calling from Texas Police, I am sorry to say that your husband is dead. Can you please immediately come to the Texas police department?”
The phone dropped from her hand.
“Hello, hello ma’am can you hear me” the police officer’s voice echoed all over her ears.
She went to the Texas police department with her parents and Aaron.
“Ma’am your husband’s body was found near a bridge. The car met with an accident and the car got burned, the whole body is burned but we got his license and through that, we got your number” lady police officer said.
Selena checked the body, it was whole burned and couldn’t recognize Peter’s face, but there was a locket on his neck which belongs to Peter. Selena cried a lot. Peter left them forever.
Present
Selena got out from her chain of thought due to the horn of the vehicles her behind. The traffic light has turned to green, she paddles the accelerator and went to the office. Her office is a small one, which is a book shop located in the town. She is the bookkeeper of the restaurant, sometimes she had to handle the tough customers also because when they see her beauty they keep quiet.
She gets 300 $ per month as the basic salary, and 8 hours she has to work. Her shift starts at 8.30 a.m and ends at 4.30, but she can do overtime and she will be paid for that and most of the time she does OT, to earn more. Selena had to do a lot of things with her small salary. She has to pay rent for the apartment, car loan, food, clothes, Aaron’s school fees, and every other expense. She saves the penny even. Aaron will be kept at a daycare center after his nursery. Selena takes Aaron from his nursery every day and drops him at the daycare center. The restaurant manager gave her special permission to take Aaron and drop him at the daycare center.
“Selena, it’s almost seven p.m dear. You must go now, Aaron must be waiting for you” Manger said and she checked the time. She rushed to the vehicle and went to the daycare center.
“Mom today also you are late. You promised to come early.” Aaron is complaining every day.
“I am sorry sweetheart, I promise that we will spend this weekend in a fun way and I’ll be right there with you. OK?” Aaron nodded his head.
They both went to the apartment and had their dinner and went to sleep.
