I was laying out a pair of ripped jeans and t- shirt when there was a knock at the door. Kennedy gave me a look from the vanity as she was putting on her mascara and I shrugged. "Were you expecting anyone?" She shook her head and the knock came again. I walked over and opened the door. On the other side was Angela.
"I'm really sorry to bother the two of you. I know you're probably getting ready for the feast, honestly I should be cooking but they sent me for some reason. Anyway, I was told to let you know that our feast is a little more formal. Well, not entirely formal. It is casual, but like a formal casual. It's..." The poor thing kept stumbling over her words as she tugged at her apron; I couldn't help but smile.
"What I mean is that, even though it's not ball gown worthy, it's also not shorts worthy. Maybe a pretty dress? Slacks or skirt and a blouse? I don't know!"
"Angela, right?" She nodded. "It's ok. I understand. You don't need to be nervous. I'll let Ke- I mean Issy know that we need to change out the outfits we'd picked. It's no big deal, I promise. We might be a little late, though." I laughed and Angela gulped. She mumbled something they sounded like an apology and ran off. I closed the door and walked over to my bed, flopping down on it.
"What's wrong, Issy?" Kennedy sat next to me and rubbed my shoulder. "You seem grouchy all of a sudden."
"That cook, Angela?" Kennedy blushed and I quirked an eyebrow at her. "She said we need to change clothes. Turns out this 'feast' is actually a feast-feast and we're supposed to be dressed up a little nicer than... This." I gestured to the jean skirt and crop top she was wearing and she groaned.
"I guess I better change. Will they approve of a sun dress? I can't bear wearing one of those icky things you had me in when we got here." She made a face and I laughed. Gowns could definitely get uncomfortable and itchy after a while.
"That should do perfectly. Do you mind if I snag your purple blouse you used to wear on dates with what's-his-face? That with a skirt should show my status as omega, but not to be f*cked with."
"Only if I can wear your floral sun dress. It just screams Florida spring." We happily high fived and got to work at fixing our outfits. "Also, his name was Charlie and he happened to like me in purple." I snorted and she started laughing.
Hours later we were seated at a large table with what looked to be a majority of the pack, and pack members were still coming in to fill the empty seats. Allen was sat next to Sebastian, who was sitting across from me, and Kennedy was sat on my left, across from Allen. The seat to my right was empty until I heard a familiar voice from behind me.
"Is this seat taken, Cinnamon?" I turned slightly in my chair to see Balthazar standing behind me, smiling with nearly all his sharp teeth showing. After glancing around the table I gulped and nodded. His smile widened and he sat next to me. This seemed to anger Sebastian.
"Now Sushi steals my seat!" I could hear him angrily whisper to Allen. What did he mean by that? Was he supposed to be sitting next to me? Why?
"Now now, Mutt. Don't be angry. The seat was empty and clearly the lady had no knowledge of anyone sitting here. Be a good doggie and let the leader of your guard sit where he's welcome." He smirked and Sebastian's eyes started to glow turquoise for a split second. Allen elbowed him in the side and he took a few breaths before simply glaring.
"Only because I'd left the seat empty, you can have it. Good news is, I don't need to sit next to her to ask if her and the princess would like to join Allen and myself in Orlando tomorrow. Some screams and seafood could be a nice welcome for you both." Sebastian smirked and Balthazar frowned.
"I don't think it's wise to have royalty and friends roaming another city with only you two mutts. I insist I come along. One of my subordinates can keep an eye on the pack while we're gone."
Food was beginning to pass around the table as Sebastian and Balthazar argued about tomorrow's plans. At one point Angela piped up that she would enjoy joining as she was serving Kennedy her beloved spring rolls and Kennedy squealed at the thought. I was trying to tune out the childishness when a blob of mashed potatoes suddenly hit me in the face.
"What the f*ck?!" I slammed my hands on the table and shoved my chair back, standing to glare at the two idiots. Next to me, Kennedy began to tremble and I realised I was now the one about to blow our cover. Slowly I sat back down and resumed eating. It only lasted seconds when Balthazar flung a spoonful of sweet and sour sauce at Sebastian, hitting Allen in the nose.
Allen sat there dumbfounded but came back to his senses and picked up a roll, flinging it at Balthazar's head. Unfortunately it hit the wall behind him and he was unable to miss the attack of a chicken bone zooming past his ear. "Fetch, Doggie."
Sebastian then tackled Balthazar from across the table and the rest of the group began throwing various foods at each other. Kennedy and I were both covered in a multitude of goo when a whistle broke the fighting and caused everyone to sit completely still. Jerald stood in the doorway fuming and emitting an aura that had almost everyone bearing their necks; I slowly showed mine in hopes it would help the charade of my being Kennedy and Kennedy being me.
"What is the meaning of this? I thought you boys could handle a welcoming feast on your own and instead you embarrass our entire pack with a high school food fight! For shame. Yes. You will be leaving tomorrow and yes you will bring our shark leader. Think of it as team building to make you two get along! Princess Isabella, Kennedy, I'm so sorry for how these imbeciles acted. It is in no way how the rest of us act. If you're no longer hungry, you're very welcome to head to your room and wash up."
Kennedy stood and cleared her throat, "I would appreciate some spring rolls brought up. Angela made them beautifully and it would be nice to actually enjoy them. If my friend wants anything, please bring it up as well," she said softly. Then she turned and walked out of the room.
"I'll just take a bottle of Pepsi. Thank you so much for the feast, the food was delicious. What time do we need to be up tomorrow to head to Orlando?"
From the floor Sebastian rolled off of Balthazar and looked up at me. "7am works. We'll be leaving at 8am. If you need more time to get ready, then that's your choice. But I'll see you at the car." He stood and stormed off. I bent over and held out a hand to Balthazar.
"Thanks, Cinnamon." He pulled himself up before smiling at me and walking away. I looked over at Jerald apologetically and he shrugged.
"They'll be back to clean this. Allen, you'll be joining. You helped make the mess, you help clean it. I can't believe you would be so stu-" I left as he berated his son and headed upstairs to mine and Kennedy's room. Inside the room was full of steam and the sound of the shower came from our bathroom. Lucky chick was already cleaning the mess from her body.
Soon she emerged with one towel wrapped around her body and another coiled around her hair. "Don't worry, there's still hot water left. I'm gonna change into my pjs. Scrub hard, that sauce is no joke in the hair." She laughed softly and wandered into our closet. I grabbed a couple of towels, a pair of my jammies from my drawer, and headed into the bathroom.
Finally I walked out ruffling a towel through my hair and dressed. Kennedy was sitting against her bed frame laughing with Angela and eating spring rolls.
"When did you get here?" I asked with a brow quirked.
"Oh! I was told to bring up your requests. Since I was given the night off for the boys to do mine and the rest of the kitchen staff's job, Bella let me stay and munch with her. She was actually laughing about how you caused a food fight." She giggled and Kennedy blushed.
"Bella? I've never heard anyone call you Bella."
"Angie thought it would be a cute nickname for our friendship. And with her joining us tomorrow, she deserves one." Kennedy was beaming. What kind of hold did this girl have on her? "But," she stretched "it's late. We should get to bed. Angie told me we have to be up really early."
"You're right. I should go." Angela stood and hugged Kennedy, then hurried out of the room. I laid in my bed and stared at Kennedy.
"Bella?"
"What? It's a cute name." She shrugged and turned off the light, rolling over to get comfortable. I sighed and curled up, closing my eyes. Tomorrow was definitely going to be a strange day. So were the rest of the days before my birthday.
