Chapter 3: Late Night Practice

Chapter 3: Late Night Practice Nicole had been working with us for more than a month and we still hadn’t had time to hang out. We talked during practices but only about team stuff. I didn’t know how to broach a conversation with her to ask her if she wanted to come over for dinner. I wasn’t sure how it would be perceived since I’d pretty much told her how I played. Today she’d chosen to wear shorts to practice. They molded to her tight behind and left almost nothing to the imagination. I see some things didn’t change. She still enjoyed showing off her body to the men in the room. Her leotard was the same color as the strip on the leg of her shorts and it too molded itself to her slim body. I’d always been jealous of her tiny breasts and now years later, it was no different. I stood at the edge of the mat, watching her talk to some of the girls about their floor routines. One of the girls, Misty, was having trouble nailing a landing. I went over to her. “Misty,” I said, going over to the girl. “You’re missing your landing. Watch how I do this. Look at where my feet land.” Misty stepped back to give me some room and I ran through the part of her routine that was giving her trouble. She nodded as I came back to where she stood. “Ok, Coach. I think I see what you mean. Let me try again.” I moved back so that she could run that part. She seemed to get it and I had her run the entire routine again. This time she nailed it. “That’s the ticket Misty,” I said patting her on the shoulder. “You do that at the meet in three weeks and you will definitely place if you don’t take first.” She grinned. “Thanks, Coach. I want to do well. It’s my last year and I want to have something to show for it.” I patted her on the back and she ran off to finish practicing. Nicole came up behind me. “You still got those smooth moves I see.” I looked at her over my shoulder. “A few of them.” “It’s good you still practice.” I shrugged. “You never know when the opportunity to compete might come up.” She nodded, watching Misty’s routine. “She’s very good.” “Yeah. She is.” Nicole glanced at me. “She reminds me of you. Smooth and flawless.” I felt my cheeks turn pink under her praise. “Nah. I was just having fun.” She stayed quiet for a few minutes watching the guys on the rings. “Coach Hannalay was talking about getting a demo team together. He wanted me to be on it. What about you? Would you do it? Do you think Ken would?” I thought about it as I watched them practice. “I don’t know. I never thought about doing that. It might be fun. You know we are considered old now, right?” A soft burst of laughter floated past my ear. “Yeah. We are senior citizens at 30.” We snickered over that for a moment, then she said softly, “You don’t look old though. You look good.” Something about the way she said that sent a shiver down my spine and caused heat to settled somewhere lower down though I was pretty sure that she didn’t mean it the way she said it. I gave her a slow look up and down. “You look good too,” I admitted. Her attention was diverted by one of the girls calling for a spotter. Nicole jogged over and offered her assistance. She bent down to pick up something and her already short shorts rode up her hips. I strained to see just how far up they’d go. Maybe she would expose the creamy skin of her- Damn. She straightened before I could get my peek. But the thought of seeing her smooth bottom was making me horny. As the team started to disperse, she took a running start and did a series of flips across the mat. Oh she was good. She landed and her blond hair fell softly about her shoulders. I wondered if it was as silky as it looked. How would it feel against my skin as I held her close to taste those full lips? “Damn she’s fine,” Ken said from beside me. His eyes were glued to her chest just as mine were. “Yeah, she’s beautiful,” I agreed. “She’s not as beautiful as you, though,” he said quickly. His dark eyes roamed over me, taking in my tank top and shorts. “You know I’ve always had a thing for you, right?” I looked at him. “You have?” He nodded. “Yes. I think you’re the sexiest lady I’ve ever met.” I blushed and turned my attention back to where Nicole was now doing the routine that won her gold medals. Her long legs were nicely muscled and I imagined them over my shoulders as I- “Why won’t you give me a chance, Shelly?” Ken was saying. “We could have a great time.” I looked at him. “I don’t date colleagues. We still have to work together when the relationship ends.” Ken chewed his lip, watching Nicole drop into a split. “But we have been friends for a long time. If it doesn’t work out, then we go back to being friends. I just think it’s wrong not to try.” I gestured to where Nicole was pushing herself up into a handstand. “What about Nicole? She’s pretty. Single.” He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door of the gym. “She’s out of my league. I’m smart enough to know that. She’d never date someone like me. But you and I are the same, Shelly. We come from the same place, cut from the same cloth. Tell me you aren’t attracted to me?” I looked at him. He was handsome and sweet. And yes, I felt a pull of attraction to him. But funnily enough, I also felt the same attraction to Nicole. I liked an occasional piece of beef. Who didn’t? But I would never use Ken to sate my needs at the moment. As much as I cared for Ken, I wanted Nicole. Ken must have thought my silence was rejection and he needed to try to convince me. Gently, he cupped my face in his hands. “Give me a chance, Shelly. It’ll be good between us. I promise.” Before I could respond, he leaned forward and kissed me. It wasn’t unpleasant and I allowed the sweep of his tongue in my mouth. I closed my eyes, pretending it was Nicole who kissed me and fire exploded in my belly. Ken pulled away, his thumbs stroking my cheeks. “Just think about it, huh? Take as long as you want.” I wasn’t sure what to say to him. So I nodded and returned the hug he gave me. “Good night, Ken,” I said softly. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” He leaned forward and kissed me once again before letting me go. “Good night, sweetheart. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” He turned away, then paused. “Think about what I said, huh? Give me a chance.” I nodded. “Good night.” He waved as he walked away. I turned back to find Nicole watching me from where she was stretching on the mat. Her gaze ran over my body and a knowing gleam shone in her blue eyes. I could see the tops of her breasts as she leaned forward over her knee. My palms itched to touch them and I turned quickly and headed out the door before I was on top of her. The room next to the gym where some of the team members would come to practice their floor routines was empty. I went inside and kicked off my flip flops. I knelt on the mat and shuffled through my music playlists on my phone until I found the one I used when I practiced capoeira. Pressing the button, I moved to the center of the mat and began the stretches. After a few moments of stretching, I began to perform the various kicks and defenses that comprised capoeira. I always loved this martial art because it was close to gymnastics and dancing, two of the things that I loved. I’d seen a demo once at the mall and I begged my parents to sign me up. At first they were hesitant, convinced that I was going to get hurt and not be able to do gymnastics. But having trained gymnastics helped with the capoeira and vice versa. When that song ended, I balanced myself on my hands until the next song started. I sat down on one hip and slid my extended leg across the floor before pushing up to my hands again. Finally, I finished and pushed myself to my feet. And came face to face with Nicole. She leaned in the doorway, watching me. “That was awesome,” she said softly. “I didn’t know you were still practicing capoeira.” I leaned down and scooped up my phone. I glanced at her as I pressed the button to clear the playlist. “How long have you been standing there?” She shrugged. “Not long. I thought you’d gone. But when I came out, I heard the music so I came to see who it was.” I nodded. “Yeah. It was me. How did you know I was practicing capoeira?” Again her shoulder lifted. “You were doing that back in college. I remember.” “Hmmm. Yes well. I like to come in here after everyone has gone. It keeps me fit.” Her gaze traveled over my body. “I think you look great.” For probably the third or fourth time today, I blushed. “Thanks,” I murmured. “What are you still doing here?” “I told you, I was leaving and I heard your music.” Oh yeah. She did say that. “Sorry. It’s been a long day and I’m kind of tired.” A smiled curved her lips. “Yeah. Me too.” She crossed the mat to stand in front of me. “So I guess you’re leaving?” I asked. Her being so close to me was turning me on in ways that I never thought possible. And I needed to get out of here before I was begging her to make love to me. “Yeah.” “I guess we should probably walk out together.” She fell into step beside me as we headed out of the room. I scooped my bag from the hook outside the door and followed Nicole out of the gym. The night had cooled off enough that a light jacket was needed. I shrugged my jacket on as we walked out into the parking lot. Her car was parked next to mine and I opened the door, tossing my bag into the seat. Turning, I faced her. “So I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?” “Sure. Maybe we can go to lunch or something. We’ve been saying we were going to catch up but haven’t had a chance to.” “Yeah we have. I teach tomorrow until 1:30. How about 2:00?” She nodded. “Sounds good.” I too nodded. “Okay then.” When I started to open my door to get into my car, she stopped me. “Shelly?” “Hmm?” Nicole bit her lip as if she wasn’t quite sure how to ask me whatever it was she wanted to know. Finally, she said, “I saw you and Ken tonight. I saw him kiss you. Are you guys a thing? I thought you said you- well-” I stared at her. “No. We aren’t a thing. He wants us to be.” “I think he really likes you.” “Yeah. And I like him.” “So?” “So I’m attracted to him but I’m also into someone else.” Her dark eyebrow lifted. “Yeah? Anyone I know?” “Maybe.” She chewed at her lip. “Maybe you didn’t like his kiss?” I folded my arms across my chest. “Yes, I did. He’s a good kisser and a fantastic guy. Feel free to ask him out if you want to. He said he thought you were hot.” “And you?” I looked her dead in the eye. “I think you’re hot.” When she didn’t respond at first, I figured that I scared her away. So I turned to get into my car. “Good night, Nicole,” I said. “Why don’t you ask him? He’s a really nice guy.” Suddenly, she grabbed my shoulders and turned me to face her. I held my breath, no daring to hope that she was about to kiss me. Her gaze flickered to my lips but she did no more than look at me. So I decided to take a risk I thought might be worth taking. I stepped closer to her and reached up to cup her cheek. When she didn’t pull away, I leaned forward and kissed her. She didn’t resist but she didn’t move either. But after a moment, she parted her lips and I slipped my tongue past her teeth. Tentatively, her tongue brushed against mine and I moaned softly and pulled her to me. Her body against mine felt as good as Ken’s had except while she was muscled from years of gymnastics just like he was, her body was softer. And the feel of her so close and having her lips on mine sent my body into overdrive. I pulled back first knowing that I wouldn’t be able to do more than that with her tonight. She backed away slowly and I waited for her to slap me. But she didn’t. Instead, she ran her fingers across her lips as she stared at me. Finally, she found her voice. “So, lunch tomorrow?” I nodded. “Still want to?” “Yes. 2:00. I’ll be there.” Tomorrow.
