FOURTY THREE

Ember’s POV My mouth fell open in shock at Caleb’s reaction, and as I glanced around, I noticed the twins remained unfazed. Had I misjudged them somehow? I could not make sense of anything at all, and it was getting increasingly tiring putting two, and two together. I rose to my feet slowly, placing the fork back on my plate. "I am sorry if I overstepped my boundaries. Have a good day," I said firmly, avoiding eye contact with any of them. Feeling foolish, I turned back quickly and made my way out of the dining room. "Ember!" Tristen's sudden call stopped me in my tracks. I halted in my tracks just outside the dining room, I stood just outside the dining room, frozen in place as I turned to look back at the boys. Tristen and Lucas were also on their feet, their eyes as dark as night.
