After months of steady dates, and strange rendezvous, and difficult conversations about her missing friend, submission, and her own desires, Jon and Maureen seemed headed toward some permanent relationship—though it was far from any traditional relationship she’d ever had.
“I m*********d at the end of Sophie’s last letter to me,” she said when they met.
“You think of Sophie’s messages as letters to you?”
